I recently had the displeasure of visiting George's Place. I use the term ""visiting"" because I did not actually dine there during this Cape May stay although I have done so many times in the past. First and foremost, the purpose of this review is not to fault the food in any way. I don't have one bad thing to say about the food. I do however have something bad to say about a major change that has occurred since the chef/owner has gotten copious amounts of meda attention and has developed a big fish in a small pond ego. Yes, the food is good ,but if go there, you may be treated as if giving you this food is a HUGE favor that they are doing for you. A series of events have occured illustrating this change but the cherry on top was this past Sunday. I dropped in around 10:30 am to see if I could get something to go from the lunch section of the menu. (After having asking the evening before if they were ok with lunch take out the next mid morning) A simple ""I am sorry, but we can't accommodate your request given that the kitchen is busy with breakfast orders"" would have sufficed. Instead the chef owner was rude and spoke to me as if I was a 4 yr old. When I mentioned that they used to be so nice in there he proceeded to yell ""Yeah, well the Greeks took over"". What does that even mean? Yes, I know he is Greek but what does this have to do with anything? He did this in front of customers which I found to be unprofessional and when I commented that I planned to post a review, he shook his hands in front of himself yelling ""oooooohhhhhh"" (as in ""he is so scared""). He should be embarrassed by his behavior which occurred in a swarm of waiting customers. He isn't embarrassed though, because he is doing them a favor by serving them good food right? This is NOT the same restaurant that I have been visiting for years and have ""word of mouth"" advertised for years. Now if you trot in without a reservation, you are smugly told that you should have called at 5 to see if you can be put on the list because there are no openings until 8pm. Congratulations on your success George's Place! Don't let it go to your head... oh wait.... too late. You lost a customer and I am sure I won't be the first.\r
