Every time I go to Cape May, I expect good food at somewhat higher prices. Then I found George's Place. Their could not be a cuter place around. Beach front, awesome atmosphere...

Won't go back 9/23/2009

I recently had the displeasure of visiting George's Place. I use the term ""visiting"" because I did not actually dine there during this Cape May stay although I have done so many times in the past. First and foremost, the purpose of this review is not to fault the food in any way. I don't have one bad thing to say about the food. I do however have something bad to say about a major change that has occurred since the chef/owner has gotten copious amounts of meda attention and has developed a big fish in a small pond ego. Yes, the food is good ,but if go there, you may be treated as if giving you this food is a HUGE favor that they are doing for you. A series of events have occured illustrating this change but the cherry on top was this past Sunday. I dropped in around 10:30 am to see if I could get something to go from the lunch section of the menu. (After having asking the evening before if they were ok with lunch take out the next mid morning) A simple ""I am sorry, but we can't accommodate your request given that the kitchen is busy with breakfast orders"" would have sufficed. Instead the chef owner was rude and spoke to me as if I was a 4 yr old. When I mentioned that they used to be so nice in there he proceeded to yell ""Yeah, well the Greeks took over"". What does that even mean? Yes, I know he is Greek but what does this have to do with anything? He did this in front of customers which I found to be unprofessional and when I commented that I planned to post a review, he shook his hands in front of himself yelling ""oooooohhhhhh"" (as in ""he is so scared""). He should be embarrassed by his behavior which occurred in a swarm of waiting customers. He isn't embarrassed though, because he is doing them a favor by serving them good food right? This is NOT the same restaurant that I have been visiting for years and have ""word of mouth"" advertised for years. Now if you trot in without a reservation, you are smugly told that you should have called at 5 to see if you can be put on the list because there are no openings until 8pm. Congratulations on your success George's Place! Don't let it go to your head... oh wait.... too late. You lost a customer and I am sure I won't be the first.\r \r more

Worst Treatment 9/10/2009

Georges Place used to be my favorite breakfast spot in Cape May, but unfortunately we weren't treated very well this past Labor Day.\r \r My wife knew I really wanted to have breakfast there even though there was a 45 minute wait. So we walked around with our 2 young sons (11 months and 2.5 years) and the older one got so hungry we had to stop. Unfortunately, we didnt also walk back across town to tell Georges Place to take us off the list (my bad but what are you going to do with 2 young kids). \r \r The next day we got up even earlier hoping to not have to wait as long and Georges Place refused to take our name or serve us even though my wife attempted to explain the circumstances. Funny with all the kid pictures both inside and outside you would think he would be more understanding. \r \r I guess we will just have to go the Blue Pig or the Pancake House from now on. Pros: Used to like the food Cons: Don't like how we were treated more

Best BOYD Hands Down 12/11/2007

Every time I go to Cape May, I expect good food at somewhat higher prices. Then I found George's Place. Their could not be a cuter place around. Beach front, awesome atmosphere, music, and not good food, but great food. The prices were not expensive, compared to 95% of all the other places. When I payed to leave, the chef was there and chatted with my boyfriend and I for a few minutes. It was a great experience. I can't wait to go back! Pros: Everything Cons: The place could be bigger, and the windows could be open in the summertime more

Best Breakfast 11/20/2006

The greatest omelet I've had. Skip the huge place claiming to have great breakfast food on the opposite corner. George's has them all beat. The place is small so you may have to wait, but the food is worth it. I don't think our waitress spoke much English but our order came out perfect. I'm just sorry we discovered George's on our last day. Pros: Great Breakfast Cons: Small more
