Best Pilates and Gyrotonic Studio 11/14/2009

Best studio in Portland! I've been to many studios in the area and Geometry is definitely the best. The staff is extremely knowledgeable in Classical Pilates and offer challenging customized workouts. Alison is one of the best instructors I've worked with! Pros: Knowledgeable instructors, challenging workouts more

A luxury I refuse to consider discretionary 7/14/2009

I have done weekly three-person sessions at Geometry since fall of 2005 (with a one year hiatus when I was abroad). The instructors are very skilled at challenging students, but also at working simultaneously with students of slightly different levels or with injuries. They create a friendly environment where students works hard, but have a good time. I detest gyms, and normally will only exercise outside, but carve out an exception for pilates. I highy recommend Geometry. Pros: great teachers, pleasant space more

A Workout You'll Actually Enjoy! 3/24/2009

Pilates is the one workout I've tried that I actually like doing. The instructors at Geometry push you every workout and encourage development. You'll work hard and see results without having to pack yourself into a crowded gym or parade past your neighbors' windows as you jog around your neighborhood. Instruction at Geometry is personal even in the semi-private classes - they'll choose workouts that are right for you, make sure you're doing each move correctly, and are very positive and supportive! Before you know it, you'll be doing things you never thought your body could do! Pros: Great instructors Cons: Can't think of a one! more

For me, working out/fitness has always involved a treadmill and weight lifting machines. This last year, I became so unmotivated and just plain resistant to that old, boring, flat routine. I stopped working out, and gained 20 pounds. Meanwhile, my back and neck starting aching at my physically demanding job and I soon realized that I needed core strengthening. I wanted to try something new, but not scary or awkward. I found trainer and guru, Ramman Turner, at Geometry pilates. I began once a week learning gyrotonics through my ever-patient, understanding and insightful instructor. It was a priceless deal! I get relaxation, major toning, strengthening focused on building/ remediating joint stability, stretching to improve back alignment and increasing awareness of posture (i have baaaad posture). Every session leaves me feeling centered, explosively positive, sore-in-a-good-way, and eager to return. I usually go right after work and show up with neck and back dull, persisting pain. By the time I leave, it is gone! The feedback and overall dedication to improving my technique is unbelievable and inspiring . The results: I am getting toned, stronger, relieving tension/ poor posture aches and,,,am MOTIVATED again. Pros: awesome Cons: nada more

Great pilates and gyrotonic instruction 1/31/2007

I love Geometry Pilates because\r The studio is just what it should be - light, airy, open, hardwood floors, and top quality equipment.\r The teachers are not only certified, but seek out additional training opportunities to reinforce and build on their training.\r One of the most valuable things to me was the opportunity to work with someone trained by Romana. Pilates to me is like piano playing. You need to learn Mozart before you move to jazz.\r Geometry Studio is a place where beginngers will be taught at their own pace, with encouragement, and a sense of the right timing for additional challenges and a place where advanced students will be cared for, encouraged, and challenged to the extent of their ambition.\r The most exciting recent addition to Geometry are the Gyrotonic classes. These demonstrate the comittment of the instructors to building on their skills and offer the perfect complement to classic Pilates.\r \r more

Fabulous Instructors and Convenient Location 1/31/2007

I have worked out at Geometry for the past three years. I have been in Pilates for the past 7 years, but never with the same results that I have experienced at Geometry. At Geometry I now have firm arms (NOT EVEN AS A TEEN) and I am two sizes smaller in pants and skirts WITHOUT dropping more than a couple of pounds. Friends and relatives always ask me if I've been dieting, but no I work out 2x a week at Geometry. \r \r What is the difference or why is Geometry such a great place to work out. The instructors are well trained. They are able to adapt your workout to you. I've worked out with those with troubled pregnancies or injuries and the instructors at Geometry work hard at modifying their workout while paying attention to my own to ensure that I'm doing it properly.\r \r The instructors are flexible and continue to update their own training and education on a regular basis. They are very good at accomodating to your schedule and needs as much as possible. They really focus not only on the basics but on how you can improve what you are doing to maximize your workout. They provide pointers and ques just when they are needed and are individual not the typical Pilates (drop your ribs) but specific to you and what you are doing (drop the left shoulder and exhale now!).\r \r A few years ago my husband was struggling with back pain. His doctor told him he needed weight based training to counter the ""computer slump"". I finally convinced him to try Pilates at Geometry. Prior to that he'd always seen Pilates as a ""women's workout"". But at Geometry. he liked the atomosphere and the results (little pain and a full night sleep).\r \r A little about the atomosphere at Geometry. It is in the Pearl (never a bad place to be). While there is only on street parking it is rarely difficult to find a place to park. The studio itself has a the trendy loft feel of NYC, but it is definately Portland Organic. There is a variety of equipment and complimentary pieces for use. Pros: Well trained instructors, location, parking is easy to find, wonderful variety of equipment Cons: Few early morning appointments more

Geometry is a great place to do pilates - the atmosphere is perfect and the instructors are very knowledgeable and are not afraid to challenge you. I've been taking pilates here since Geometry has opened and it's done nothing but great things for my mental and physical state of being. if you decide to take pilates at Geometry, you will not be dissappointed! Pros: one-on-one training, great location, evening appointments more
