When I went to get a hair cut from Geoff a couple of weeks ago the receptionist noted that I had been going to see Geoff for 5 Years this November. Geoff is the only person who is able to tame the several different directions that my hair grows and interpet what exactly I wanted and improve on it. I started going to Geoff when Irish stylists beacame popular e.g. John Barrett et al. Fair to say myself and Geoff share an Irish kinship. Regardless I have also referred several clients and their spouses from my practice for which they were extremely thankful. I love the proffessional and freindly atmosphere from the minute you walk in until the moment you walk out. The assistants are warm and proffessional and keep a lively conversation. Geoff is freindly and explains to you in detail what he will be doing and why...the end result was a real treat since I was a first time client. I higly recommend the salon and will be telling all my girlfriends about it and that they should at least try once if not permenantly. more

I'm surprised by the good reviews of this place, because my experience at Geoff Merritt was awful. The guy at the desk was rude, as was Geoff. I felt very uncomfortable, not relaxed at all. The cut I got was okay, nothing spectacular. It obviously works for some people, but in my opinion, there are lots of salons in this city--choose one where the stylists and staff are friendly! more

After trying several places that my girlfriend insisted on, she finally recommended a place that impressed me. My hair is not the easiest to cut and tends to have a mind of its own. Regardless, Geoff was able to do something to even satisfy my finicky girlfriend. I pray that he never relocates and becomes another New York institution. I tried 3 different salons on Madison and was never happy with what I got, paid or the manner I was treated . A friend recommended Geoff Merritt Hairsalon. I agreed to stop by for consultation. When I saw the salon from the outside, it appeared professional, serene, and very inviting. I booked with Geoff, I instructed him on how I wanted my hair cut, he responded that he would cut it as I asked, but suggested another technique. I declined and he followed my instructions, on my visits back to the salon, I realized he was he was professional, and also creative, and now I let him decide what should be done with my hair, I have never been happier, never got so many compliments as I do now, and a fraction of the cost I paid on Madison Ave. Thank you Geoff for making my hair come alive. David has been cutting my hair for some time now and I am always very pleased with the results. I invariably receive compliments from friends on my haircut. Geoff cut my hair once and, again, I was very pleased. The stylists and support staff are friendly and the atmosphere is easy and relaxed. They have a lot of repeat customers. I wish I would have known about this site and read all of the reviews before I went to get my hair done. I was not satisfied with the cut (uneven & the product he put on it at the end just made my hair look greasy & weighed down). Not recommended. I hope this helps other people avoid my bad experience! more

I have been a client of Geoff's for almost 3 years and I have to say that he always does such a fantastic job on my hair. He gives such a professional cut as my hair has never looked so good. I have been a client of the Jeff Merritt salon for a number of years. Jeff has always given me a great cut and a great color. He listens to what I want and gives me suggestions that will improve the end product to best suit my features and hair type. The rest of the staff are also highly recommended. When Jeff has been unavailable and 'I just had to have something done' I have happily booked with other staff. I have been very pleased with Yuki and Joel. I have watched David at work and he is also an excellent stylist. It is not easy to find a salon that provides such consistent great service - this is one of them. After walking by and seeing the salon, I decided to make an appointment w/ Geoff, the owner. I figured the owner would be the best, afterall his fee was higher than his co-workers. I was wrong. Not only did I find his demeanor very condescending and his jokes inappropriate, I was also very disappointed by the haircut he gave me. It was completely uneven and not at all what I told him I wanted. I had to go to another salon to get someone to fix it. (They were appalled that he charged me $90 for such a poor cut.) I have never written a review before, but I don't want someone else to have to deal with this. Go elsewhere! more
