Worst

We made a reservation for seven people, several days in advance of the night of our 8:15pm reservation. We arrived and checked in with Ginji's Host at 8:05pm. After waiting unt...

Fun and Delicious! 4/12/2008

I have been going to Genji's for years and I keep going back because its so good! They have not cut back on their service and offerings like so many other Japanese steak houses and their chiefs are the BEST! This is a great place to have a good time, to meet people or to take a date. Make sure you have reservations, though because their parking lot is always full! more

Irasshaimase, Great Japanese Steakhouse, classy, different, venue is small. 9/23/2007

Go-chuumon wa? My wife and I being from Chicago, are not easily impressed by most of the Columbus venues. You could almost say we are picky diners. I will have to say that Genji, is by far one of the top ten Japanese restaurants of national scale. I have eaten at Benihana's, Ichiban's, Mt Fuji's in California, Chicago, N Carolina, Minnesota...etc. Now I dont claim to be a food critic and as we know tastes differ, But Genji, is definately a new spin on the common theme. Their showmanship is more... theatrical. Giant 6-7 ft flames licking the ceiling... new spins on old tricks... the chef even asked me to open my mouth and gave me a little treat from 5 ft across the grill. The experience really was GREAT!!! The wait was not long for a typical saturday weekend, we waited 30 mins no reservations. O-nomimono wa ikaga desu ka? They could make the bar bigger (bar only seats about 8), since we had to wait about 5 mins to get a seat at the bar while wating for our table. Overall the place ismaller than most steakhouses, but that may add to the charm. The portions were good and the price right on target for a restaurant of this calibre. The food taste again was great, I was not enthralled by the yum yum sauce it was good, but didn't think it to be spectacular. I actually prefer the ginger sauce. There beer selection was ok, and the wine modest, they did have some of traditional japanese drinks, I recommend the cold sake... very easy to drink. I personally dont care for the warm sake, i find it too harsh and dry. Okimaridesu ka? Pros: easy to find location, great staff, antastic theatrics. Cons: small bar, small menu, small venue. more

Great experience 4/9/2006

Been to Genji twice...Both times were great!. Food and service was excellent. Only negative on second visit, after arriving on time for reservations on a Friday nite, was waiting another hour for our seats. Waitroom was jammed. Two ladies next to us had been waiting two hours for their seats. Finally we were seated, and the rest of the nite there was nice, only late. If you are a first-timer, avoid peak weekend times and your experience will be alot better. Pros: Food, Service, Waitstaff and cooks Cons: Weekend overcrowding more

Genji's Is The Place! 4/8/2006

I dined at this wonderful place last week. I have never had a better time at any other dining venue. As you can see by my e-mail name I LOVE it! Pros: Great food, Great price, very good service Cons: closed on Mondays more

Best Japanese Steakhouse in town 2/8/2006

Genji is by far the best Japanese steakhouse in Central Ohio. The overall atmosphere is outstanding, gives you a warm welcome feeling. The service is top notch with a very low turnover rate. The chef's are outstanding, from erupting volcanos to the snap of the spatula on the salt shaker, it's all top notch. Yum Yum sauce is great as well as the portions (for both dinner and lunch) but the best thing about Genji is the taste of the food. Perfect 10 out of 10! more

Yum food, Yum price 12/13/2005

I haven't been to a hibachi grille in a while and this was definitley worht it. The Yum Yum sauce everybody raves about is more like a mixture of ranch and thousand island dressings and cream. It's good, but I was expecting something more exotic. Prices were reasonable. Good place for a date or a group of friends. more

Yummy Yumm 7/21/2005

OMG What is there bad to say about Ganji's? I have been going to this restaraunt since 1999 and I have fallen in love all over again. The food is wonderful there and the best thing that I like is the shogun special. It comes with Lobster and scallops and you can even get shrimp with it. Their steaks are to die for also, I always get a order of steak for $5.95 additional. Now it does cost between $25-$30 per person for dinner there, but they also have Lunch everyday besides Saturday and also on Sunday and you can eat for around $10.00 a person the savings is unbelievable. I try to go on Sundays alot. I would recommend a reservation for dinner unless you want to wait 2 hours for the meal of your life. Pros: Good Parking, take reservations, Excellent Food Cons: a little wait more

Yum Yum Genji 7/4/2005

OMG, u have to go to Genji, it is the best restarunt i have ever been to in my entire life. i mean they really know how to cook some serious food, and it's super entaining too. its great for parties or whatever. They have this stuff called yum yum sauce and it the BOMB i mean u can put on ur rice and its like a plate of heaven, u can put it on everything. The chefs are funny as hell and if u really want a good one then u have to request Tokyo Joe he is so funny. So get urself there as fast as u can. Pros: Great food, Awesome Chefs, Very Entertaining Cons: Kinda Pricy at dinner, sometimes long waits more

A Yum Yum Lover!! 7/4/2005

Genji is the best!! Tokoyo Joe is the funniest chef there. My family and friends can't get enough yum yum!! I have recomended Genji to everyone I know and they all love it. We are lifers!! I will never try anywhere different. Once you go Yum Yum you never go back hahaha!! Pros: Yum, Yum, Yum Cons: Ginger, Ginger, Ginger more

The best 6/28/2005

Genji's is by far the best ""Japanese"" steak house in the city, and Ive been to all of them. The double yum-yum sauce is the best, and all the chefs are entertaining, as well as excellent cooks. I disagree that folks dont see this a good place for kids...it is perfect for children...the chefs will make any kid laugh, and any child will enjoy. Not so romantic, but only because of the typical ""gang"" seating familier with ""Japanese"" resturants. Pros: authentic, comfortable Cons: busy, parking, location more

Yum Yum 2/8/2005

Do not pass up a chance to eat here! This places is great for family outings or dates. The chefs are very entertaining during preparation and the food is excellent. If there's a downside, it's that after you've eaten there, you will have cravings for Genji's from then on... Always get Yum Yum sauce. They'll ask if you want ginger, but you don't. Get the Yum Yum. Pros: Great Food more

genji 3/17/2004

The yum yum sauce is to die for!!! They even sell bottles of it to take home. Expect to spend about $25.00 per person. Pros: great food, great environment more
