It took me years to finally pull the trigger and straighten my hair- after multiple consultations- I decided on this salon- and honestly the opti-smooth process has changed my life....I thought everyone in the salon was more than professional- and Christine ( my hairdresser) was soo comforting, and put me right at ease. I have gotten a ton of compliments- on both the opti-smooth process and my haircut- I can't even believe it took me sooo long to get it done......RUN dont walk there- I would go back in a hearbeat!!!! I know this sounds completely conceited...but people have been literally stopping me on the streets for twelve years to ask me about my hair color! It's all due to Vicky!! But we can't stop there...the staff is warm, friendly, and super professional. I almost don't want to give away anymore secrets but Ilona gives the best mani-pedi! No slam dunk 12 minute nail salon treatment here...Run don't walk to Gemini...oh, and my friends get the hair straightening done there as well and they love it!! more

You may categorize me as picky with my hair, but i have never been to someone who actually took the time to listen to me and deliver on my every request. I was referred to Christina by a co worker and I was really impressed. She did an amazing job with my haircut. Really sweet girl with amazing talent for hair. She totally understood me and my hair hasn't looked this good in a very long time. more

Like many other people I have tried a TON of salons in NYC for hair and spa treatments. After going to Gemini I was most pleasantly surprised to find a place that was not only super friendly but did such good work! I went in for waxing on a Tuedsay and had Illona. Not only did I not have to wait(I was a walk in), but I had one of the best waxes ever. She is super friendly, super professional, and did one of the best waxes I have ever had. (on a side note i have also passed by for a wax on a day that Ilona was busy so had Lana....she is AMAZING...i have never felt so comfortable with someone)After going for a couple of more times I had my hair cut by Bradley (on reccomendation) and it was one of the best cuts I have ever had. He knows exactly what he is doing and listens to exactly what you want. I would highly reccomend Gemini. Pros: ILONA, LANA, BRAD more

I have been to some of the top sytlists in the city but have finally found Mr. Right. LYOR is amazing. He listens to what you want and produces it. My color always comes out amazing!! He is also fabulous at styling. My hair looks amazing when I leave the salon. He's a pleasure to be around and it's an overall great experience. I will contintue to go to him forever and always recommend him to friends, family, co-workers etc. Pros: LYOR more

For many years i bounced from salon to salon, and stylist to stylist. I tried a salon in Chelsea on a referral by a friend and ran across Bradley. He listened, talked to me in a friendly and loving way, and then proceeded to give me the best hair experience of my life! I am notorious for always changing my hair, and he NEVER disappoints me. From the cuts, colors, and highlights, he always delivers. The chelsea salon closed and he moved to gemini salon. Not only is this neighborhood beautiful, but so is the salon atmosphere. Everyone has always been so kind and accommodating. I cannot sing his praises enough! i love love LOVE this guy! more

I have been going to Gemini Salon for a little over 3 years and I have yet to have a disappointing experience. I have had spa services including Brazilian bikini wax (Lana is the one to request, she has a way of putting you at ease that makes the experience not so un-pleasant), eyebrows, manicure, and pedicure. I have put my trust and head of hair in Lola's hands for years now and am always super satisfied and impressed with her work. Her skill at coloring is amazing. My hair comes out looking so natural it?s almost as if the sun has done all the highlighting work. I tend to try and be a bit more adventurous with the cut and ask Lola for her suggestions. I always leave with a funky and fresh look that can be worn at work and at play. The salon is unpretentious, instead maintaining an air of west village chic. I will remain a loyal customer and will confidently recommend Gemini to my friends. more

I sadly have to agree my experience has been in line with many of the poor reviews listed below... It is true Tamara is great and gives a good wax (I, like most people, followed her there from Service Station) but the hassle and stress you have to put up with kills any benefit there might be in going to this place. The managers are rude and most offten yelling. Appointments are always VERY delayed and on multiple occasions I have had my treatment interrupted and the stylist or tech called away to work on someone else or deal with a screaming manager. If you take care of yourself and have any idea what a spa should feel like or just like decent service, don't bother going to Gemini, go to any run of the mill place and your sure to do better. I have gone to this salon for years and have always looked over the delayed appointments, loud management and stressed out employees. In fact I have recommended the spa to many co-workers (I work in the entertainment/fashion business and get asked frequently for recs). But I have to say this place has gone from OK to AWFUL. This is a small family business and the owners have three grown daughters who seem to think that their experience comes before their customers. The time prior to my last time I had three little children of one of the owners daughters running around the room while I was having a spa treatment (NOT VERY RELAXING). This last time I had a different one of their daughters come in to my treatment room three times and finally pull away the employee (I had requested and booked the week prior) because she wanted her to put on a fresh coat of color to her nails. When I finally left the salon over two hours later I told the person at the desk how disappointed I was. I should have known it was another one of the owners daughters who quickly told me that it was their business, that her sister could do what she wanted and if I wanted the place to myself I should "come on Mondays when this place is a nursing home" (that must be when they let their parents out?). So don't go kids, the prices have gone UP, the service down and "management" seems to be unaware that paying customers are what keep the doors open (or did). Pros: spa staff knows what they are doing and do it well Cons: Atmosphere, attitude, poor managment, long wait times, jacked up prices more

My waxer Tamara now works there and she is really great! She's extrememly thorough and meticulous - I highly recommend her. 5 STARS FOR TAMARA! Pros: Tamara!! Cons: You have to walk through the sometimes unkept hair salon. more

I have been going to Lana for a couple of years now for facials. She is the best! Not the wimpy facials you normally get at salons. This is serious extraction. After a couple of days your skin in growing. Dont go right before an special occasion though, cause it goes take some time to heal. Pros: The extraction is really really thorough, you can see the results, you skin is all around cleaner Cons: face is blotchy for a couple days more

I went into this salon after reading a review on citysearch. I called and made an appointment. When I got there to my suprise, I was given another stylist who did a "ok" job. My missery was to see another client getting a wonderful haircut by the stylist I wanted while I was forced onto someone else. The woman at the front desk definately made me want to never go back. Word to the wise, this salon would seem to be one to save you a penny but instead of saving money you get rude service, utterly rude reception by the boy/ thing at the door, hair unswept from the floor, loud hair dressers talking/ yelling their conversation over the hair dryers, classless people. I would say this salon deserves to be in Harlem. They over charge for under servicing. I would never recommend to a friend. more

I've been to just about every place in the city for waxing and I've finally found someone who got it right. Lana does the best Brazilian in the city. She's quick and funny and you're out of there in no time with minimal pain. She uses a numbing spray and a really good wax and it makes all the difference. Best of all? It's only $45, which is almost half of what uptown salons charge. Look no further for a great esthetician: Lana is it. Pros: LANA! Good quality wax. Great prices. Location. more

I walked into this salon at the spur-of-the-moment. I needed to look great for a evening-out but didn't want to have to deal with that UES attitude, so I took a chance and did something I rarely never do, walked into a salon and took who was available. I have to say that my first impressions were mixed. Tucked away in the back was a seemingly unpretentious tattooed individual who gave me one of the best experiences I have had in a long time. He talked to me about my hair, asked me my expectations and truly listened to my concerns. He made suggestions of different possibilities and truly made me feel comfortable. I have to say I have had a great many opportunities to have my hair done around the world and this stylist was up there with some of the best. He took his time and gave me one of the best haircuts and blow-dry's I have ever had. I'm glad I took the risk because hidden in the back was a diamond-in-the-rough. I highly recommend this stylist to anyone who might ask.... I was born and raised in Manhattan and believe me, have tried the most expensive salons for a fantastic eyebrow wax. I started going to Tamara at The Gemini Salon and she is the BEST! in town. I have very specific tastes and she spends a lot of time with me. She does the job perfectly every time more

I have been really stumped over where to go for my hair since I moved to New York from London. I had an amazing stylist back home and needed a replacement. I tried a few other places and wasn't ever really happy. I walked into Gemini after a recommendation from a coworker and I am thrilled. Great Color and amazing cut. Loved the environment. Really down to earth. A nice change from most other stuffy salons I've tried recently and really reasonable prices. A+. more
