Geek Squad Alternative 8/5/2010

At one point or another we all need computer repair help and I am no different. I found myself in need at the worst possible moment. In the middle night, when everything is closed and the night before a report is due. I called Geek Squad online support for help and was charged for the $199 virus removal service. They connected to my pc and attempted to remove the problem. After a couple of hours and a whole lot of coffee and nail biting they call me back and say there is nothing they can do. This time, the guy I spoke to had a heavy accent and seemed to be calling from overseas. And long with this and the fact they said the virus is too embedded to be removed without causing further damage and system instability. I get off the disappointing phone call and am still sweating because this report is 35% of my overall grade in this course and I absolutely had to have this done in the morning. I run a quick Google search for a solution when I find SecureRemoteSupport[dot]com who provides online services and have a “No Fix No Pay” guarantee. Wow that would be nice if Geek Squad offered the same promise. Within an hour they had diagnosed the virus and had removed it completely for $105. And best of all, I didn’t lose any of my work and my operating system was completely repaired. Apparently the Geek Squad isn’t as good at their job as secureremotesupport[dot]com is. I really appreciate their diligence on fixing my issue and suggest others think twice before contacting Geek Squad to fix their computer. more

Alternative to the ""Squad"" 3/15/2010

After my grandsons had come and stayed with me for a long holiday weekend, I noticed that my computer was acting goofy. It was taking a very long time to start and wouldn't go to my news website. My husband then called a Geek Squad to come out and fix it. He found that we did indeed have a virus and would need to have it removed. We had the young man here for about an hour and a half when he finished. We paid and he left. I didn't think to check his work and didn't end up using the computer for a day or two. When I did finally turn it on it was the same thing. Slow to start, slow to use the internet and now it wouldn't shut off. I called the Geek Squad back and made another appointment for someone to come out again. When he arrived he mentioned that we'd have to pay another ""visit fee"". I objected because we had already paid them for not fixing the problem originally. After some discussion he left and we still had a bad computer. My husband mentioned maybe we should just buy a new one. My daughter then suggested calling someone else to fix the 2 year old Dell. My daughter looked up a few companies and called around and priced what it would cost to have someone fix it properly. After a few calls we decided upon secure remote support. They only charged us $79.99 and told us that if they couldn't correct the problem that we didn't pay. What a deal! And they were available to fix it right away over the internet so that I didn't have to wait for another appointment. The technican that helped me was very kind and understanding and... willing to explain things to an unknowledgable person. I know from now on who I'll be calling for my computer needs in the future secureremotesupport[dot]com more

NEVER AGAIN 3/12/2010

After experiencing problems with my computer (and another Geek Squad) I took my computer to this store to hopefully get whatever was wrong with it resolved. \r I figured taking it to another Geek Squad couldnt possibly result in an experience as horrific as the one before. \r Apparently, theyre all the same. \r All a bunch of computer illiterate teenagers taught by managers not to repair computers, but only to upsell products not needed by consumers. \r Upon speaking with an associate, I was offered various products and services that I didnt need, and that didnt have anything to do with why I was there. \r I simply needed my computer diagnosed and fixed. \r Out of being desperate, I left my computer with them with hopes itd be back to normal after everything was said and done. \r \r Nearly a week went by and Id heard nothing from them regarding my machine. \r When I called to check up on its progress, I was displeased to hear that they had been done with it the day before without calling and letting me know. \r After I picked up my computer from the store I took it home only to find it running as slowly as it had before I took it in, and with dings and scratches around the screen. \r This was outrageous! This was the second Geek Squad to ""repair"" my computer and I got it back even more messed up than it was initally! \r \r Later as I was reading reviews posted by other consumers, I realized this is common among the Geek Squads around the country. THE COUNTRY! \r I did however find a company called Secure Remote Support who I took a chance on. \r Those guys really know their stuff. \r Although they couldnt repair the dings and scratches the Geek Squad has (so kindly) inflicted on my machine, they did clear out everything that had been making it run so slowly and such. \r This company is extraordinary. \r \r I will be taking all my future business to www.SecureRemoteSupport(dot)com. I would suggest to anyone having computer troubles to give these guys a try. Pros: ----- Cons: Everything!! more
