Best Veal Saltimbocca in the Galaxy. 7/2/2008

Order the Calamari Crema Appetizer, Side salad with Creamy Italian (WOW), Veal Saltimbocca (Out of this world) If you dont like veal, get chicken or shrimp Saltimbocca but the Veal is phenominal. Then Tiramisu. You will have the best dinner ever. I Guarantee it. Don't deviate from this list. and you will have a 6 star experience. Pros: Salimbocca, Calamari Crema, Tiramisu, Wines Cons: Snotty Male Servers more

Worst service in Tucson and surrounding areas 11/26/2007

My first trip to this place onLa Cholla on Sunday AM. It took 15 minutes to get coffee; 25 minutes to get an omelet after ordering. Wait staff was inattentive and made excuses about the shortage of staff. Who cares? I am paying good money for minimally adequate food and lousy service. was never even offered more coffee. Will not go back. Pros: seat yourself Cons: noisy, too small, slow service more

no longer impresses 7/4/2007

Originally, the novelty was appealing. So many dishes; so relatively delicious. Eventually all dishes went up by $5 and the quality and quantity declined. Some sauces are now more routinely overdone, with some tomato sauces tasting grossly overcooked--little TLC. Fra diabolo and carbonara (two of my personal speicalties), for example, are excessively greasy. At their current prices they can no longer impress. I don't go there any more. Especially considering their skimpy aesthetics, one can get better ambiance, better flavor and lower prices at better venues. Pros: large variety Cons: not always tasty more

Big City Taste 3/28/2007

My family and I have been customers of Gavi's for 10 years. The food has never depreciated in quality. (Maybe the price has gone up, but isn't that called inflation?) Yes, the wait may take a while, but it is worth it. The spicy calamari is great. One tip... ask for the sauce on the side, otherwise the calamari becomes soggy, especially if you have leftovers. I am bias to the serenata. Wonderful sweet garlic taste in every sauce that is used. The tables are in close proximity to one another, so if you are disabled or someone in your party is disabled, request a table near the door. Other than that... TRY IT! It is ""big city taste"" in Tucson. Pros: great service, tasty food, WONDERFUL COOKS! Cons: can be noisy, tight seating arrangement more

You cannot beat the pasta and sauces 2/3/2007

After hearing all the hype, I could see someone being somewhat taken back by Gavi's because of it's size (maybe 20 tables in the entire place?) and thinking the decore couldn't possibly justify the prices (About $45 for a couple without drinks). The thing about Gavi's is that you have to pay close attention to the food itself, especially the sauces. One thing you will notice is that your cream sauces and tomato sauces are going to taste richer and most flavorful than likely any other Italian place in town. After going back to some of your regular places (Macaroni Grill, Carabas, etc.) you'll likely see the stark difference between the two and just keep coming back to Gavi's after that. Pros: Delicious food, casual environment, affordable Cons: Small resturaunt, not really any ambiance to it more

Best in Town 4/29/2006

Simply the best in Tucson. Great food and good time. Pros: Great Food, Big Portion Cons: A bit expensive more

Absolutely Divine 10/4/2005

I am extremely biased when it comes to Gavi's being that I've been a faithful diner of theirs for over 4 years, but it is always a great experience. The food and service is out of this world. It is to be expected that the staff can't please everybody all the time so for those who wrote bad reviews- try working in such a high stress job such as Gavi's and then complain. I must have eaten there over 500 times and all but maybe a few times have been the best dining experience I've ever encountered. Pros: exceptional service, authentic food, extensive wine list Cons: pricey more

It's Amoré! 11/7/2004

Best Italian in town. As someone who's tried about every Italian place he can find, Gavi is my personal choice for Italian perfection, in any city. The service is always prompt and courteous, even at peak times, and not one thing will disappoint. However, don't get too involved in scouring that menu until you've heard the specials. They are guaranteed to please. An excellent wine list, as well as a good selection of beers and liquors. Ample portions with some dishes making an easy two meals. (Don't worry, it reheats wonderfuly.) Pros: Ambience, Food, Service Cons: , Pricey more

Everything is good there! 3/11/2004

It doesn't matter what you order, everything on the menu is fantastic and authentic. Once you eat there, everything at places like ""The Italian Garden"" tastes as if it came from a frozen dinner. Gavi's is pricey, but for authentic Italian food, it can't be beat. Pros: Tasty Italian food Cons: , crowded more

Disappiointed, Disappointed 9/4/2003

Had dinner there on Labor Day and noticed the prices have been raised at least 15%. Gavi was already more highly priced than most other Italian restaurants. I ordered sausage and peppers over pasta and the sausage was overdone and dry. The sauce was not seasoned as usual. I asked for my pasta to be served al dente and it came cold and soft. I eat at Gavi at least once a month and have noticed a definite trend in the wrong direction. My wife's dish wasn't up to the normal standard either. Hopefully they will reexamine their pricing and correct the kitchen problems quickly. Pros: Good parking, Reasonababl wine list, Large portions Cons: Disappointing food, Higher pricing, Poor pasta cooking more

Way Over rated 8/13/2003

It seems that the Italian soccer team have no T-shirts left for them to put on! All their T-shirts are hung on the walls of Gavi's. What is the theme of this show of shirts and random display of deflated soccer balls is incomprehensible to me. Forget about the ambience. Let's talk service. During our rushed one-hour dinner, an arrogant condescending server who was the least interested in serving or even listening, made our experience as annoying as possible. The server was even pushy when it came to ordering drinks, trying to pressure those who chose to drink water to order a beer or a wine! Is this is the Italian hospitality? I dont think so. Luckily for Gavi's that the food was fine, thanks to the chef, wherever of Mexico he is from. Pros: good food Cons: far, boring ambience, expensive more

Fantastic! 4/6/2003

My favorite Italian in the city. The soccer decor lends a unique feel. Fantastic food served very promptly. The seafood dishes are especially amazing. Lengthy wine list, well stocked bar, and outstanding tiramisu. Oh, and watch out for Krista. She's the best server you've ever had. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

Overrated! 3/11/2003

I ate at Gavi once and that was enough! It took forever and a day to get seated. So, I expected a lot. The dinner was ok- my mother has made better. The dessert- Tiramisu- was horrible! Do they not know that cream cheese is not an acceptable substitution?? That is disgusting! What a waste of my time and money! I highly recommend that the owners take a trip to Italy and be reminded of what true Italian food tastes like. Pros: slightly better than, olive garden Cons: not authentic, Tiramisu is fake!, long wait for nothing more

Excellent food 2/16/2003

Crowded and noisy. But the food is beyond anything I've found around town. more

A little taste of home. 10/9/2002

For the first time since we move to Tucson, (6 years ago) from Boston, we were able to sit and enjoy an awesome Italian dinner without having to fly home. The food was great and the people who waited on us were prompt and always came to the table with a smile. My husband and I will be visiting Gavis' regularly. Pros: excellent food, very nice staff Cons: tables crowded, a little expensive more

not that good 9/27/2002

to crowded .food over priced long wait to get in. Maybe I expexted more seeing how it came highly recomended more

Decadent 9/23/2002

Gavi's has a broad selection of Italian dishes - something for everyone. The ambiance is another reason I go to Gavi's. more

SIMPLY THE BEST 8/11/2002

As a regular customer of Gavi's for almost 4 years I am slightly biased, but after going to most of the Italian Restaurant's in Tucson, I now only go to one - Gavi's. From the time you are seated and are served the appetizer till you pay your bill it is a great experience. more

Belissimo 7/29/2002

In short, the Southern Italian cusine of Gavi's is not only excellent, but true to the area of Italy that spawned it. I have spent many days tooling down the Amalfi drive and frequenting the seaside establishments, and Gavi's fare is more than comparable. We are indeed very lucky to have such cuisine in Tucson. more
