Wow I am really shocked at all the negative reviews on here. I have been to Gasows for years. I know most of the doctors and am very friendly with most of staff. My pets get excellent care there. I do agree with the reviews about Dr. Fisher she is all about the money. I never saw where she cared too much for animals. She is a very spoiled person out to get what she can for herself. The other Drs are wonderfu. As for the front desk there is only one receptionist I know of who seems to be crabby and her name is Barb, I do think that is just the way she comes off and she really does not mean to be. However, I have to give those girls credit, it is a very busy place at times, they are pulled in all directions with phones, the people waiting, the Drs and we all know working with Drs is not easy. It is a walk in clinic so it is unpredictable about how long a wait is going to be. The girls upfront have no control over how long it takes for the Drs to do their jobs so dont blame them. I do thi more

ditto to Dr. Fisher having zero bedside manner and some front desk staff being agitated. You are left with the feeling that you have somehow interrupted them by being a customer. Conversely,Dr. Jocelyn Thompson (sp?) is amazing. If I only had to deal with Dr. Thompson, I would give them 5 stars. more

Dr. Fisher is HORRIBLE! 7/15/2011

I gave 2 stars because the other Vets were very good.\r \r It is a mystery why this woman, Dr. Fisher, became a Vet.\r \r I brought my 17lb cat in because he had a sinus infection. When Dr Fisher came in, my cat sneezed and snot came out. She exclaimed "Gross" and rushed out of the room for a towel. She came off as very snobby, stuck up, and condescending. She was quite fixated on the fact he is overweight. She didn't seem to believe me that he has lost 7lbs and he was fat when I got him 10 years ago. I couldn't remember medication names and dates quickly enough for her and she delighted in speaking down to me. When she exclaimed fear at touching my cat, I simply had enough so I packed him up and left. I have had this cat for 10+ years and lived in 3 states with him. Never, ever have I met a Vet scared to touch him. Again, why did you become a Vet?? \r \r I came home and read the reviews here. I then called and asked the receptionist if it was Dr. Fisher that I had dealt with. She replied ye more

BEWARE DR. FISHER 3/25/2011

I took my dog to Gasow when he suddenly became ill after being very healthy his whole life. Dr. Fisher saw him and ordered a series of tests and imaging. The bill was over $600 with a HUGE markup on medication and Dr. Fisher lectured me on how he hadn't been groomed recently. This was a long-haired dog who was sick. She wanted me to whip out a brush? My dog passed away and the second vet I took him to said that there was NO WAY the tests that Gasow SAID they performed came back normal as Dr. Fisher told me, given the results he got. I will NEVER take any future pets there. They rip you off and your pet still gets lousy care. more

Dr. Carter is amazing! 2/26/2011

I had been living out of Michigan for several years, and on the weekend I moved back, I picked up a rescue puppy on the way. The puppy was adorable, as most puppies are, but she seemed to be a little shy and uninterested in much. About 5 hours into our ride I noticed she wasn't doing so well. She was very lethargic and was feeling a little warm. We were about an hour outside of Detroit, so I grabbed my phone to call the vet I used prior to moving from Michigan to see if I could bring her in, but they were closed. It was a Sunday. I began searching online for a vet and found Gasow. I called and explained the situation to the girl who answered the phone, and was able to talk to Dr. Carter directly, who advised me of a few things to do while we were still on the road. We drove directly to Gasow, where Dr. Carter took the puppy back right away and begain to give her a check up. She constantly updated us on what she was doing with the pup and explained step in detail so we understood what w more

THe pup was very sick and we were lucky to have gotten the advice from her that we did on our way into town. She was the most amazing and professional vet I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. We take all of our animals to see her and they receive the best care possible. I would recommend Dr. Carter to anyone who is looking for a quality vet. You won't be let down! more

All About the Money 2/23/2011

I totally agree with the negative ratings. My dogs co-owner plays in the NBA. Since they traveled alot I began to sit for one of the dogs, and eventually grew attached and kept her. Shes been a patient of gasows for OVER 10 years. Everytime I took her to the vet, everyone loved to see her (the dog) they were kind and always billed her owner. Well to make a long story short, she recently experienced vomiting and diarrhea, I took her in as usual, and was told that his accountant said she was no longer able to be billed, and i had to set up a new account. I had no money on me,(i grabed my cell and keys) and asked could she be seen anyway, until I sorted this out. I was told without up front payment she could not be seen. OMG..after 10 YEARS, are you kidding!! They didn't even have the decency to pull me in the office and explain this, instead she was yelling that she (the dog) could no longer be billed, loud enough for everyone to hear! Come to find out this was a misunderstnading, but we more

Dr. Reynolds & Gasow 2/3/2011

Gasow is, by far, the most professional veterinary clinic I have ever been to. My 5 month old puppy was acting very lethargic and was having trouble holding any food or liquids down, which sent me into a panic! I attempted to take her into my own vet of 14 years, but they had already closed (this was a Saturday). So we took her into Gasow and Dr. Reynolds took her in right away without having to wait. She was very thorough and explained everything so well to us. I was absolutely amazed at the service we received. In fact, I loved it so much that I have since changed veterinary offices and refer my friends and family to Gasow as often as I can. Excellent job! Thank you! more

Almost dead puppy! 1/22/2011

Zero rating!! This 12wk. old puppy could have died! My sister took her pup in due to severe diarrhea and peeing accidents every 5mins. New behaviors after a week home. Walked into the office with puppy and 3yr old daughter. Not to be greeted, but left standing at the counter for more than 5mins. Although, a woman had come in behind her and was greeted right away! Once in to see the vet (with not much for personality), she took the puppy in the back with the stool sample, and came back with puppy (who now was given shots, to a sick puppy!) "no worms" she said and nothing else. Sent home with a still very sick puppy!! Knowing better, my sister took her to another vet. Whom, started treating her proactively for Giardia!! A very serious and dangerous condition! A easily diagnosed condition by any vet and even by some educated pet owners!! Forget their lack of acknowledgement, they could have let this puppy die!! Shameful and nonexcusable!! Don't forget the $85 bill she paid as well. She ha more

Dr. Fisher is all about the money 6/9/2010

Do not let Dr. Fisher near your cat. She charged $700 for surgery to remove what I thought was a boil or a cist and another growth on my cat. She never mentioned cancer as a possibility. Dr. Brooks reduced the bill-but the total was still $600+. AFTER the surgery Dr. Brooks takes an x-ray and tells me that the poor cat is full of cancer! Had I known that, I would not have put the poor guy through the surgery. He lived only a few weeks after that. Dr. Fisher decided to not do the x-ray in advance because she knew that had I known, I would not have opted for the surgery and she would have been out the fee. Dr. Brooks and Dr. Manger are great. Avoid Dr. Fisher-she is all about the money. more

Dr. Manger IS GREAT 5/7/2009

Our dog was having puppies and she was having a hard time getting out the last 3 pups. He helped in every way to get the pups out with out having to do a c-section. The first pup came out ok but the second came out already separated from the cord the Dr. did everything he could but she was already gone he was very very upset by this you could see the love for animal's in his eyes he is a very good vet. He cares a lot about your pets and you. So please trust in the vets there and who cares if some people think the office staff is crabby maybe you caught them on a bad day. \r Signed thankful more

I think they are Great 5/7/2009

I cant believe all the people who say that the staff is rude. i totally disagree. they have been nothing but nice to my dog and me. they love her when i take her in and shower her with attention. it really makes me feel good to go there and it is part of the reason i keep going back. i don't really know about price but i think they are about the same as others. Also i love that you don't need an appt. they have great hours and i have never had to wait a long time. i really love the owner dr. brooks. he has given me good advice as i was a new puppy owner. he does not rush you out the door and seems to really enjoy his job and the animals. he is a nice calm guy. i will say that one of the female vets i had once, seemed like she was trying to up sale me on things i didn't need. and one of the male vets i had seemed like he was rushing me but i did have him again and he was not like that. so it could have been a busy day. more

Gasow is Excellent! 3/25/2009

We've gone to Gasow for years- absolute 'thumbs-up'. I have complete confidence in the doctors with our dog. Staff has been great, too. Am very surprised & disappointed in seeing some negative reviews. One story: about 10 yrs ago, the night before leaving on 2-week vacation, our dog was hit by a car. Emergency re-arrangements resulted in our dog there for observation, surgery, post-op & kenneling. Dr. Wright did an excellent job, and the staff was wonderful in their care and for our continual call-ins. Just saw the pins on X-ray yesterday - all still in excellent place 10 yrs later! more

Gasow 2/11/2009

We have taken our dogs to Gasow for years and hold them in the highest regard. Prior to moving to this area, we had taken our dogs to another vet in the metro area, and to vets in other states where we have lived and Gasow is far and away the best we have used. more

Should have read reviews 12/5/2008

Have taken my "boy" to G twice this year - first time for sprained paw - Xray and 2 meds one of which was for INFECTION! Had some 90# older woman try to help get 80# dog out of car - he ended up jumping out on sprained paw. OUCH!\r \r Second time for ear issue - never was given information on what caused or what to do! Wrote clinic letter - vet offered to look at ears and paw for no charge - a day late and a dollar short - $300 for NOTHING. Seems to be just a money maker.\r \r I try to support local businesses (B'ham) but under no circustances would I step foot in this establishment again. And recommend you do not either. more

Misdiagnosis 11/19/2008

We brought our dog to Gasow vet on a Saturday after she exhibited pain and difficulty laying down the night before. She had been pacing and unable to sit without extreme pain. The vet at Gasow diagnosed it as a hip issue, prescribed pain killers and told us to follow-up with our vet the next Monday. By 4AM on Sunday morning she was still in extreme discomfort and unable to sit, lay or sleep. We took her to an emergency vet who told us that the pacing and inability to lay down is a text book symptom of a back or spine issue (verified this online later.) He took xrays, saw a compressed disk and severe spinal arthritis, gave her muscle relaxants and increased pain medication. She recovered well and although has some arthritis symptoms, is doing fine.Gasow was a waste of time and money - we'll never take our pets there again. more

Thought it was just me 8/19/2008

I always assumed that i was just being too sensitive and that the front desk ladies were just doing their jobs. It is actually a relief to find that other people feel this way as well. Haha i was also afraid that they might just not like me for some reason. It is also true that since i've been going there, about two years, they do seem nicer. Maybe because i try to keep things very short and to the point so as not to anger them. I most likely would have gone somewhere else by now, but i love the vet staff and vet techs who do a very good job and will sometimes throw a discount in here and there if they can. How they perform is really all that matters to me, i can put up with some snotty old women for good vets. more

they diagnosed my cat wrong 7/16/2008

my cat had been lethargic and hadn't eaten for a few days wen my dad took her to the vet the vet had taken an x- ray and had put her on an iv she was there for pretty much 4 days during that 4 days we visited her there and they said it was most likely pancreatitis which they said was only cured by iv fluids and the next day we got a call saying that she was still not eating and was not well but since she is unhappy here we are going to send her home and she may eat there we will check with u in a few days to see how she is progressing and we had to bring her home well we got her home and she was the same she didn't eat or anything so we took her to exclusively cats veterinary hospital and they took another x- ray and it turned out that she had swallowed something (most likely an earplug because she had swallowed one before) and that it was stuck in her intestines they ended up doing surgery to remove it and she turned out fine.\r \r so not only was the receptionists cold and horrid the d more

Amazing 5/4/2008

I just want to say GVH is awesome. They are there when you need them. Yes there are a few people there who must hate their life but overall they are great. The older women up front are a bit cranky, but the younger ones seem happy and are always smiling. The vets are also amazing and friendly and really know what they are taking about. I have not had a bad experience there yet! \r \r Whats better than a walk in vet... sure you might have to wait a half hour... but it beats calling and making an appointment at another vet and not being able to get in until the week after.\r \r GO HERE!! love them! more
