Not your typical game shop! 5/15/2009

My niece's birthday was a week away and the only thing she had asked for was a certain game which was apparently EXTREMELY hard to find. I had already searched all the game stores I knew of in the area, (Best Buy, Target, Gamestop) which all had horribly limited selections of games and were rather overpriced for what they had. I had almost resigned myself to having to pay extra to speed order off of amazon when I realized there was a game store in the hollywood video building. I had never visited this one in particular before, but it was surprisingly spacious and well lit, unlike the other Game Crazy stores I had been to. It was more like its own independent store than just a corner of the rental shop. Most surprising, though, were the eager attitudes of the employees. I was greeted as soon as I walked in -- not with the monotonous that so many underpaid customer service representatives are trained to recite every time they see a customer -- but with genuine cheerfulness. When I told them what I was looking for, instead of rolling their eyes and sending me away like the people at Gamestop had, one of the employees led me over to a computer and checked the inventory while the other one announced that she would run a search on all the stores in the immediate area to see if they had what I wanted. Unsirprisingly the game I wanted wasn't in stock, but according to their computers one Game Crazy up in Washington had a copy for an incredibly reasonable price. Of course, I wasn't eager to spend the gas on a four hour driving trip to a store I had never been to before, but I decided that it was better than paying much more to order the game online and possibly receiving it late. I made to leave, but the girls stopped me. They told me that one of them could drive all the way up to the Washington Game Crazy and get the game for me and I could pick it up later that evening at my convenience. When I asked how much extra I would have to pay for this service, they cheerfully told me that there would be no additional cost! True to their word, they called me later that day to let me know I could pick it up at any time. When I went back to make the purchase I was pleasantly surprised to find that the game, even though they were selling it to me at a discounted "used game" price, it was in brand new condition! I've been a regular customer at this Game Crazy ever since. The girls and guys who work there really know their stuff and are all too eager to go out of their way to get whatever their customers need. I don't think the other Game Crazy stores do this, but the employees at this location even wear ties! It's clear that they love their jobs and take an immense amount of pride in what they do! Pros: Absolutely charming customer service! more

Bring your Iberprofen, all the upsale WILL give you a headache! 10/13/2007

Game Crazy has a decent amount of locations and each is pretty well stocked with used games... ...Unfortunately, the moment you get to the counter you get barraged with that "Don't take 'NO' for an answer" sales mentality. "Buy our membership!" "Preorder at this sweet new game!" "But you NEED a warranty!" Holy cow, it got so bad I had to go out of my way to go somewhere else just to save me a headache. I think these poor kids that work their would be better off as used car salesmen. Ekk! Luckly, in Tanasbourne, there's a Gamestop and a Target near by so you do have some alternatives if your shopping for games in that area. I also heard that they are putting in a Best Buy right there. Pros: Convenience (of location) Cons: Overpowering sales attitude, kinda cramped, no (or very little) computer games more
