Closed due to unsatisfactory sanitation score 7/1/2011

I have never seemed to have good luck with this place. However, at the request of m co workers I reluctantly stop in one evening. (around 6 pm) To find the restaurant had been shut down by the health department! How does this even happen no days? Very pathetic. Rumors are they are up & running once more. But would you eat anything from a place that was shut down? Scary I know I would not let my family near this embarrassment. more

A response to a poor review...great lady...delicious food! 4/6/2011

As a health conscience young woman who has known Johnnie Gabriel my entire life, I feel the need to comment on ""MeganLLL"" 's ""review"". I have frequented this restaurant and bakery for years and witnessed the owner's rare dignified ""rise to fame"". It seems this misinformed inaccurate patron has a personal vendetta with, in my opinion, the saintly Johnnie Gabriel! It seems like a review written by one of those(and we all know one) people that tried to hitch their wagon to an amazingly self-made authentic strong business woman and did not quite ""make the cut""! .I suggest that this individual spend less time writing reviews of unfounded defamation and more time bettering themselves by enrolling in spelling and grammar courses. more

horrible 2/18/2011

This place is only good for the wedding cakes/cookies. If you wanna think you are eating healthy lunch/breakfast items, its good..I guess..but if everything wasn't injected with fat, it would be better. Secret to the roasted chicken? Mrs. Dash seasoning...all the greens (green beans, cabbage, any other pinto bean, buttered bean, black eyed pea)..animal fat is poured into canned vegetables...okra..frozen from a bag (along with any childrens menu item) If you can't get macoroni and cheese on a specific day, but your child can..it's because they cut out frozen leftovers and microwave it. Those delicious deluctable cinnamon rolls? Phillsbury frozen from a box...same with the croissants. That crunchy bacon cooked just right could have been cooked 4 days ago, stored in the grease, and then reheated to order. It would be amazing if Johnnie made the recipies to the only thing truely good there, the cakes; but it even notes in the newspaper she asked the retiring marietta cake lady for the recipies. How did they make those delicious cheese straws? Don't ask them..an old woman who lives close by makes them all, delivers them in gallon sized bags, where Gabriel's stores them in the freezer for months until they need to put more out. Atleast you can give them props for hiding their flaws so well.. and you may think Johnnie is the nicest woman, but thats only for the thousands of dollars people spend on her daily. more

RED VELVET CAKE HORRIBLE!!!!! 2/14/2011

2/14/11 I went in to purchase the red velvet cake that was voted the best cake. Boy, was I and my husband EXTREMELY disappointed, the cost was $4.00 a slice and the slices for this amount was not in portion with the cost at all (2nd disappointed). But the taste, was no where of what we expected it was ""HORRIBLE"" on Sunday 2/13/11 we tasted the red velvet cake at ""COSTCO WAREHOUSE"" which was not only better but what I paid for 2 slices I could have gotten at the warehouse a whole cake which tasted more homemade and was AWESOME!!!! Do not buy cake by the slice unless you want a under cut cake and overpriced as well! more

So good 4/21/2010

I have been using them for years for all birthdays, showers, etc. Great cakes, great sandwiches, love the pimento cheese, and the mint chocolate brownies. Pros: great for events and occasions Cons: not open sunday more

Great desserts 4/1/2010

Been a customer for a few years, pies are perfect. Pros: Perfect pies more

best place in atlanta! 1/18/2010

i have always loved the desserts (red velvet cupcakes, strawberry cake and carrot cake are my favorites) but now it's one of my favorites places to meet friends for lunch or take my whole family for dinner. so reasonable, homecooked meals and service with a smile! love it! Pros: desserts, southern hospitality Cons: wish it was closer to me! more

Poor Customer Service 11/23/2009

I have mixed reviews on this place. Their food is pretty good. The taste test may prove to show food that is a little overpriced. However, their presentation is superb. Unfortunately, they care very little about the customer when it comes to catered events. Asked for a small aspect of a cake to be made with sweetener, but they said that that would decrease the quality of the rest of the (layered) cake. Well, their inability to perform such a small task prevented the bride from being able to eat any cake since she's a diabetic. Screw this place. Food quality goes down when the management doesn't care about the customer at all, even within reason. Pros: Great Presentation Cons: They don't care about you. more

Fantastic cakes and great service! 7/17/2008

I wanted red velvet cake for my wedding, and not all red velvet cakes are created equal. I went to 8 cake tastings in the Atlanta area and NO ONE was better than Gabriel's. Johnnie's red velvet cake is by far the best red velvet cake I've ever had (don't tell my mother!). I was able to pick 3 flavors from their choices and they made 3 small cakes for me to take home so that others could try them and give their opinions. My husband chose their fresh strawberry cake for his Groom's Cake and it was fantastic as well. Johnnie spent over 2 hours with me during our first meeting, and I could tell she really wanted to make sure that the cakes reflected my style and looked the way I wanted. Their prices were comparable to or lower than all of the other wedding cakes I reviewed. (In addition, they made a heavenly carrot cake for my mother's birthday with less than a day's notice.) I love everything about Gabriel's and I highly recommend Johnnie and her staff. Pros: Cakes are awesome! Service is wonderful. more

Highly recommended when having a party! Dont be suprised if you see Paula Deen walk in! 1/16/2008

I recently had a Christmas party and asked Gabriel's to please make finger sandwiches. They were gourmet in three varities. My guests all asked where they came from. Very attentive staff, feel like I have made a wonderful friend! Pros: Great to finally have a bakery of this caliber in Marietta more

Very good desserts. Great Cakes! 8/1/2007

The desserts are a little small and pricey. The cakes are great. They can make any type or style cake you need. The lunch hour is a little crazy. Worth the wait. Pros: Great Cakes Cons: Pricey small desserts more

Best Bakery in town 7/24/2007

I had a few minutes today on the internet and decided to check on some the business I like to go. So I checked on the bakery I like, Gabriel?s, and found they a review and checked it out. If you use this one review to choose weather or not to try Gabriel?s, you will have missed out on the best bakery and cafe in the metro area. If you walk through the door will know you made the right choose Pros: Geat service, a great place to reward your self for a good day more

Poor service 6/1/2006

Gabriel's did my wedding cake. They didn't set the cake up properly, so it fell to the ground as I was walking down the isle. Even though they paid me back for it, it was very disappointing considering their reputation. Then, when they had a chance to make it right on my 1 year anniversary by sending me a ""cake topper"" for us to eat on our anniversary; it arrived in a huge lump of mushy, soggy mess! I am extremely disappointed in the service and professionalism. Pros: Taste Cons: Service, Professionalism more
