Though they're tucked right behind the Smithsonian Castle, the Freer and Sackler art galleries seem a world away from the hectic buzz of the larger museums, even during peak tourist seasons. The dimly lit sister galleries flaunt an impressive collection of Asian art, including pieces from Ancient Egypt, China, Japan and the Himalayas. While they house thousands of pieces, the distinct art and decor in each room create an intimate, small-gallery feel, and frequently rotating special exhibitions ensure something new to see on every visit. The theater also features free showings of first-run international films.
