OK, so Frank's has gotten way too much hype lately. But it's a sign of how cool this place is that it retains its soul nonetheless. Sure, there always seems to be a crowd of annoying college kids every time I go now, but the appeal of Frank's has always been the different crowds that rub up there, and the old-timers from the neighborhood aren't going anywhere yet. Plus you can see Lonnie Youngblood, forgotten soul dude from the 60s, here just about every night, it seems like, still blowing out the classics. And people actually dance here.
