Two words: Stay Clear!!!!!!!! 2/19/2012

I am SOOO happy I listened to my gut today when we went to this store- for the second time, that is. Our home was broken into in November last year and we came to Frank Lumber in Shoreline, intent on buying a new door- beautiful crafted wood doors. It took a while and we were set on one. When we wanted to buy it, the sales guy (japanese kid) started asking a whole bunch of questions, like the exact rough (sic) door opening, no we can't get it for you until your INSTALLER measures it and you have to tell me which hardware you will buy for it. Because we were naive at the time, we said, OK, we'll se what we can find out and we'll be back. The installer was somewhat ticked when I told him they want the EXACT rough (sic) door opening, as in, "IT IS a standard 36" DOOR, what else can I tell them?" Anyhow, time got away from us and never did get around to get a door- been using the garage -we do park in it- while the front door is blocked. We finaly slowed down a bit and decided to make ano more

Disorganized 1/12/2012

I ordered a custom door and was pleased with the result, but I have to agree, chaos reigns at this place. I didn't hear from them when my door was ready, and I had to call them. They acted bothered when I called and gave me a hard time, asking, ""Well, if we didn't call you the door isn't ready."" Very snooty. So, I told them that it had been a while and I wanted them to check. They checked and, surprise, the door was ready. In fact, the door was on their delivery truck to be delivered that day. Great, I asked to confirm the address they were delivering it to. Again, the sales person acted like I was an idiot. It turns out that they were delivering it to the wrong address, a customer of theirs that had my same last name. The salesperson actually said he was surprised they had two customers with the same last name. After the delay, I picked up my door the next day. Again, I was happy with the door, but their customer service is absurd. They should call themselves the Marx Brothers Door Store. more

I like this place 7/22/2011

I've been in and out of the Door Store a lot, and I've always had great service and found what I needed pretty easily. The filing system is a little bit archaic, but being computerized hasn't prevented other suppliers I use from making mistakes too. more

TERRIBLE Customer Service! 7/3/2010

Their customer service is TERRIBLE. I have tried to give them multiple chances because their prices are so good, but the Frank Door sales staff are pompous ""jack-o-lanterns"". I honestly have had better experience with their door builders who I happen to catch walking through the store. Whoever owns this business should really take a look and a listen to how the sales staff treats their customers. Pros: Cheap/Inexpensive Doors Cons: Terrible sales staff, lack of a modern day computer system more

Great community partners 4/30/2010

The selection is great and the counter help obviously were not hired off the street. We asked them for a donation 2 doors for a local high school softball dugout and they stepped up and gave 2 great doors and even cut them to fit our original openings. Great company and great community partners. more

They have a big selection of doors and if they dont have it they will custom make it. Prices are a little high but they are top quality and look nice. more

Good Place to Buy Doors 3/2/2010

Have bought doors several times (for a couple of houses) over the years at Frank Lumber The Door Store and have always been satisfied with the service from their employees and the quality of the products they sell. \r \r Last summer I was replacing an old odd-sized sliding glass door. For the first time, I used one of their recommended installers and he was great.\r Once he had taken the measurements, the consultant at Frank's helped me design the replacement system (two French doors and a side-lite). I really appreciated their ingenuity in helping me get a cost-effective solution that would not involve changing any of the outside opening. That's important when you have a situation where changing the outside opening would result in major renovation (like brick-work, etc). \r \r The final finishing of the doors (trimming them to fit) did not meet mine or the installers satisfaction so he took them back for a re-work. They completely the re-work in the same day and gave me a rebate more

Not a good experience 1/9/2010

About 3 yrs ago we bought two french doors from The Door Store. We were pleased with our purchase until two week ago when we found that the laminated, insulated glass was coming apart. We called Franks and they said this was because of where the doors are on our house (soyth side) but offered to replace the glass ""at their price."" Since the doors are in a very protected location (large overhang, trees, nearby house, their story worried me. Moreover, if I bought new doors ""at their price"" would I need to replace those doors in 3 years? I called three other vendors. All told me that the story Franks was telling me was BS. They each said the likley problem was improper construction of the doors. These are large door and the glass is heavy, beveled, leaded glass. ALL the others said that delaminati0on was likely because the frame of the leading was not reinforced or properly supported on the bottom. They also told me to look for certain problems, esp leakage of the desiccant. I called Franks again. This time they tried to blame it on me (why didn't I buy a more expensive door?) or my contractor (a long term friend who I trust). One of the other stores, Seattle Stained Glass, came out, confirmed that the problme was a they diagnosed AND offered to repair the delamination for a price well below Frank's ""at their cost"" price for new glass that .. as ""Jay"" told me, would also fail in three years or so Frank's warranty is only one year. I do not understand the effort to avoid accepting blame when you have sold a defective product. Pros: prices and speed Cons: dishonest response to an issue more

not good custom work- 12/13/2008

I've ordered doors several times and it seems everytime there is a problem- I agree with the guy who says their lack of a computer system is just crazy- but they are cheap...but ...there is a price for cheap...a custom door I ordered that was huge and over 700. came all ding up at the insert cut and they were like well just patch it with some filler- well I didn't order a custom door to patch it! Pros: custom sizes at reasonable prices Cons: fake customer service- poor quality at times more

Doors 11/30/2008

Replaced all of our doors with quality products provided by Frank Lumber. Guaranteed they would fit to our existing frames. They held true to their word. Good solid doors. more

Poor Quality 8/27/2008

Purchased doors at Frank's a couple years ago. Yes their prices were good, but when we had problems we were told they were ""import quality"" doors and thats why the price was good. Doors were peeling so they recommended ordering locally made doors. Why sell products cheap only to disappoint customers. We went downtown Seattle by Safeco field and purchased the locally made (Simpson) doors for the interior of our house. Overall we paid slightly more for the Simpson doors, but we feel ripped off by the quality of doors Frank's sells. BEWARE!! more

I'm a Frank Lumber Junkie! 5/21/2008

Here's why I LOVE Franks; Pros: Huge Selection, easy parking, helpful and large staff. A price for everyone. Cons: none..really, none more

These guys are Crooks! Beware!! 3/4/2008

So, some things that are old fashioned are good like great customer service, and some things are BAD, like not having a computer tracking system for your business!! These guys had the hardest time finding our receipt because everything is hand written and filed in some sort of archaic way designed to their advantage apparently. We bought 3 doors and picked up two with the intention of picking up the 3rd. NEVER in a million years did we think it would not be there for us to pick up, and did I mention we PAID for it?? Nope, gone without a trace. Guess they decided to forge their receipt with my signature because I did NOT pick up the 3rd door or sign for any pick up of sorts. We took it to the manager and the best they'll do for us is $50 off a new door? EXCUSE ME???? No, we paid for this, nor can we afford to buy a new door. So to those of you who think you're going to a nice non-corporate store, think again! They're in it to make money just as much as the next WALMART!! Cons: Thieves, Crooks!! more
