The waiter was attentive, the food (spaghetti with sausage) was really good, and the ambience is very cozy without being claustrophobic. Bring an appetite because the portions are enormous. The menu didn't seem very large. That is my only complaint. Pros: food, ambience Cons: cost, limited menu more

I thought this place was great. Our server was helpful. the food was great, and the price wasnt bad. I also went early on a week day but I really enjoyed it and would go back again. more

BAD, BAD, BAD!!! 11/22/2005

Server kept interrupting our conversation every time he was at our table, making us feel rushed. After I asked him to split our $120 bill 3 ways he said: You going to have to do this yourself and walked off. He put all the tax on 1 persons credit card instead of splitting it 3 ways as well. After Ive found the manager, he said to me: Ive worked here for 7 years, no one has ever asked me to do this before. He had an attitude & was not helpful in resolving the problem. So please ask yourself, do I want to spend over $100 for a meal where the people will be hateful and unwelcome? Pros: Valet parking Cons: Expensive more

Favorite Italian Food in the city 6/8/2005

The Taylor St. Francesca's loses my reservations every time I make them, but I never fail with Bryn Mawr. It's managed well, the food is excellent, and it's a great value. I bring all of my out of town guests here. Delicious. Pros: takes reservations, not as crowded as Mia Cons: difficult street park, off the beaten path more

NO, No, NO 3/15/2004

Francesca's on Taylor has better food than this location. The owner went way over his head by opening up way too many Francesca's and now the food has gone downhill. The entrees are overpriced, and the pasta is just awful. I was so disappointed after eating here cuz i live down the street and wanted a nice place to dine. I will never eat here again. I may as well go buy some Barilla and Ragu spaghetti sauce and stay home. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Warm and inviting, this amber-lit space sighs with romance but still generates a lively buzz. The wood-beamed ceiling undulates and shimmers with gold mesh and sepia-toned photos of the Old Country dot the walls. A neighborhood crowd of gay and straight couples on dates, groups celebrating birthdays and off-duty cops chat comfortably at well-spaced tables.

    The Food
All Francesca's favorites are here, from plates of savory carpaccio with capers and shaved Parmesan to big bowls of fried calamari and pasta. Don't miss rigatoni with Gorgonzola, kissed with light, tangy sauce and sprinkled with chunks of cheese. Half roasted chicken with shallots, garlic, rosemary and white wine is another menu mainstay, while tender roasted veal medallions in white wine sauce frequently appears on the changing menu. For dessert, gelato is divine; banana bread pudding topped with banana-fudge gelato is a house specialty.
