The best view in the city 3/10/2006

In addition to housing a significant piece of American history, Ft. McHenry offers one of the best and most romantic views in the city. After you've spent an hour or so meandering the fort (which you have to pay for, but your admission ticket is good for a week), enjoy the walking trail that surrounds the fort. You'll see people playing frisbee and locals in lawn chairs, and it's a great place for a picnic. Be sure to stay late enough to enjoy the sunset-- it's a perfect ending to your day. more

I can't believe I'm admitting to this 3/10/2006

Okay, let's get all of the skeletons out of my closet. I love driving through tunnels so much that I actually set out just to drive through the Ft. McHenry Tunnel (which you have to pay to do). It's long, it's kinda windy, and it's a total rush for tunnel-lovers. I blame growing up with all the tunnels in Pittsburgh for my fascination; this is one of my favorites to drive through, so spend the extra $ and enjoy the ride. more

Ft. McHenry 2/28/2006

Ft. McHenry is a must-see for all visitors to Baltimore. The interpretative center and fort are both great, because you pretty much get to explore the entire area on your own. One of the best parts of Ft. McHenry, however, is the park and walking trail that surrounds the fort. If you go during the late afternoon and stay until the last water taxi, you'll be treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets you've ever seen. My wife and our close friends even packed a picnic lunch one afternoon and enjoyed a great view of the harbor and a little bit of history. more

Fort McHenry 10/5/2005

The Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine is the "Home of The Star-Spangled Banner" and place not to miss. Too many in the area have never been and need to. You will feel a renewed feeling of patriotism in this time in history. The fort isbest known for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy in Chesapeake Bay. come and feel the history more

Oh Say Can You See... 8/4/2005

Birthplace of "The Star Spangeled Banner", Fort McHenry is a really neat tourist destination for history buffs, classrooms and anyone who wants to take a look back in time to the wars our country fought to get to where it is. Tours are given of different areas of the Fort. Bunks are set up like they were during the war so you can get an idea of what life was like for the soldiers fighting the war. Surrounded by cannons with a large flag flying, Fort McHenry has a lot of historical facts and artifacts about the birth of our country, the war we fought to make us free and the writing of the Star Spangeled Banner by Francis Scott Key. Interesting place to see. more
