I moved to South Florida (from Canada) when I was a junior in high school and heard about FAU -- it was everyone's safety school. When I graduated HS I didn't have the financial luxury of going to an out-of-state or even out-of-county school so I opted for a local school. I actually transferred to FAU from the Community College ( http://www.judysbook.com/members/11971/posts/2006/9/462491/ ), but even though I was only there for two years, I had a great time. I worked on campus at the University Center (UC) in the box office (free tickets to performances!) and was active in a student organization that awarded me a transfer scholarship. The box office caters to the aging community of Boca (I sold tickets to Vic Damon, Debbie Reynolds, The Catskills, among many others), but the student goverment once in awhile gets a big name to perform for the student body (usually free for students, steep discount to alumni). While I was there the biggest name they got was Bill Cosby (I was so close I could spit on him), but that's because the semester (year?) before they had The Violent Femmes and the auditorium was trashed -- burned seats and all, so the administration banned concerts like that for awhile. But now they have an outdoor stage where acts can perform. FAU is one of the few FL state universities that is still a wet campus -- beer and alcohol is allowed to be sold at the UC student bar/restaurant as well as at student functions. We now have a football team, still headed by Howard Schnellenberger (of U of Miami 'canes fame) that's doing pretty well, basket-ball is still doing well and the baseball team (the Wave) are still going strong too. What else can I say about FAU? It's still growing! There's so many student organizations that anyone can find something that will interest them to get involved. Great education (I'm biased to the College of Business), great student body (at least when I was there), and a lot of fun too! My last year there we had CBS's bus tour -- or whatever they called it -- come for a day, various carni-type stuff like human bowling (you're strapped inside a ball cage and rolled towards pins), and MTV Road Rules even filmed a segment at our (Olympic-size) pool. Even though I was a commuter student I really had a great time at FAU as an undergrad. Best part was that I saved more money going to FAU than FSU or UF and got a better education for it. more

FAU 7/28/2006

I have spoken with the representatives from more than one department at Florida Atlantic University. They have always upheld a great deal of poise and composure even when a couple of problems occured during each of my subsequent phone calls. I have visited 3 campuses, in Boca, Ft. Lauderdale, and Davie. Everything has been outstanding at the facilities. Computers up and running, labs clean, and competent staff... more

good education 9/24/2005

Two of my daughters went to this college after going to a 2 year school first. It was great that they could get a good higher education while still being local to home, so we were able to save money on dormrooms. They were both able to find jobs within their fields after graduating from FAU and are now lifetime alumni. We go down to the campus occasionally when they have special events (ie 4th of July event, football rallys, etc) and it's great to see how the university is expanding and developing. more

Good Local University 8/15/2005

FAU is a great college for someone in south florida who wants to stay here and get a great education. There arent many out of staters, so be ready to meet people who usually stay at home. The education that is offered is pretty good and it is reputable. The colleges of Business and Sciences are the pretty good for a state college. If youre interested in grad school afterwards, then consider going to a bigger name school like UM (however , the bigger name = bigger price) more
