This place is a holes in the wall, where roaches creep around, that have nothing better to do. Last night, my girlfriend and I drove to Houston to see Iron and Wine. Good show, but before the night was over, my cash came up missing. Pickpocketing is very common there. Never to visit this place again. more

the original 10/1/2008

this place has been around forever-basically unchanged. it just knows what it is and what it does best: serve up live music and drinks (to the over 21 crowd). actually, going up the second floor balcony you stop momentarily to wonder why this place just doesn't collapse into a pile of sticks and teen rockers. anyway, it has always looked exactly like this as far back as i can remember (20+ years). it's a fun place, combining dive bars (2 indoors, 1 outdoors) with live music in a place large enough where you can move around. i guess you could dance, but people really don't and it's not a dance club anyway. people come to drink and listen to live music. there's (usually) an upstairs and downstairs show, so your chances of finding something you like are doubled(?). there's outdoor seating in the back yard. a lot of bookings are geared towards younger people...but this place is so well rooted as a club that first comes to mind to middle-aged people, i don't think anyone would feel too out of place on most nights. the down side is parking is mostly on the street unless you arrive really early. Pros: no pretense dive-bars, fun place Cons: street parking more

SOOO MUCH FUN!!! 4/17/2008

We were at Fitzgerald's last night for the Cowboy Mouth show and it was amazing! Not only did we get to see one of the best live shows I have ever seen (the energy in that room was awesome), we had the most wonderful time in the club! The bar staff was killer! It took me a few minutes to decide what kind of beer I wanted because there were so many different ones to pick from! My friend got a mixed drink called a Blue Jay... a specialty drink made by one of the bartenders... it kicked!!! I can't wait for Cowboy Mouth to come back again!!!! The best part... the manager, Tobin, was the sweetest guy... he walked us out to our car after the show. Yeah, parking is kinda hard sometimes ,but the staff is really cool about making sure you get to your car safely. Pros: Great Atmosphere and Awesome Staff!!!! Cons: parking is tough sometimes, but it's like that at alot of places more

I go broke...the price of bEEr won't bother my well-off friends...ChEErS!!! PuFFpUffPaSS!!! Pros: Chance to enjoy music Cons: Chance to not more

Not my crowd 7/9/2007

In a word: narcotics. Sold in the parking lot by a truck that fronts as an ice cream truck. I guess this will now be a popular location based on what I just wrote. Not the crowd I would like to hang with. Went inside once, how dark, dank and cigarette smoking stinky. Ewww. Pros: None Cons: This place is an eyesore and should be shut down. more

Great place! 4/13/2007

I went to Fitzgerald's for the first time last night, and I was in a daze the entire night. The environment, the people, the music.. if I had four thumbs, I would definately hold them upright. The place can get crouded, but what more do you expect? It can get smokey, but you have the option of taking a breather outside on the second floor. The staff doesn't screw with you unless you're getting too rowdy or acting like a total retard. They can be a little harsh and ornery, but that only speaks for their seriousness in keeping up a good name for their business. The bands are great, I just love this place. I'm definately going back again. Pros: good music, enjoyable environment, great place to meet new people and witness some kickass bands! Cons: the bathrooms aren't horrible, but they aren't that fantastic either.. more

Best punk club in Houston, period. 8/26/2006

I have been going here since I was a teenager to hear some of the best local punk we have. On occasion nationally known bands will show up to play and that is always a treat. The place is very old and dark, but otherwise it rocks. Pros: very edgy Cons: admission price can be expensive more

It cool except for today 3/25/2006

I think that fitzgerald it a cool place and cool music EXCEPT for when Capitol Volume played the suck big time i hated that day please make sure you dont go when they are playing they are some loser teenagers that dont know about real rock music!!!!!!!!!!! overall that place is good=D! Cons: capitol volume more

GREAT Place To go toShows 1/29/2003

I really love this place. The bands are good and the drinks are cheap($2). Upstairs and downstairs patios. An indoor 3rd floor balcony makes it easy to just sit back and relax. It's great! Pros: Great Bands, outside patio, inexpensive Cons: small parking lot more

old timer 12/11/2002

Fitz is a pretty cool place to hang and listen to some music. Everybody is usally havin' a good time,no problems. My sons band plays there every month or so (SIOS). I think the owners take advantage of the bands that are new to the scene, but at least they have a good place to play.I'll be back to rock again!! Pros: door charge Cons: parking, ventilation more

killer 9/13/2002

A good place to go to see a band upclose and personal and you get to see them still pure and not superego sellouts chadx Pros: bands, drinks, people Cons: parking, cops, bad bands more

the best club in htown 8/7/2002

Well, Fitzgeralds is a great place to see live music. Good bands, good acoustics, great atmosphere, and people. I have been here 2 times and plan on going back many more in the years to come. It grabs you with its down to earth and straight up rock ness. check it out Pros: really cheap!, great music, good parking Cons: not good for food, bar crowded, really loud more

Horrible 8/5/2002

If you are a teenager and only have two dollars to your name, then this place is great for you. If you are anybody else, then it is a horrible, disgusting and unsafe place. The music is overhyped, the drinks are overpriced and the crowd is anything but desirable. Pros: Nothing Cons: Music, Price, Safety more

Ahh, home away from home 8/1/2002

Fitz's is about as comfortable as a bar can get..exccept when there's twice the number of people allowed by the fire marshall and half the number of bartenders that should be servicing a crowd that size. Always dark, smoky, and loud, it's a good haven for the nocturnal lounge lizard. more

SKA-Tastic 7/31/2002

Great place to catch some good tunes! Seen lots of good local talent. Good to have a place for local artist to show their talents more

FITZLIVE 6/23/2002

All the best bands go there but the beer is overpriced, it's crowded, smokie, the building is in disrepair, and the staff is rude. I love Fitz! Pros: Great Bands, fun crowd, loud Cons: very little parking, smokie, crowded more

  • In Short
Initially a blues and roots venue, this popular night spot also had a stint as a deliciously feral alternative-rock club. These days, it hosts a variety of top local and national acts, including punk, alternative, metal, hip-hip, indy rock and even country. Check out bigger acts upstairs while up-and-comers share the bill downstairs. There is an outside patio (for smoking) with a bar and grill that serves food on show nights. Fitzgerald's is also a fantastic place for people-watching.
