Less than impressive 10/22/2009

This place was recommended to us by a local. the staff and service was good, and the location and ambience fine, but the food was poorly prepared, calimari tough, shrimp dry and crawfish almost invisible. The crab queso had very little crab. The alcoholic drinks were short of alcohol, although when we complained they were refreshed at no charge, and this time they remembered the alcohol. Pros: Ambience and service was good. Cons: Food was bad. more

Great starts and finishes 9/11/2009

Started with the griiled rare tuna and it was the best i've ever had. Finished off the meal with the bread pudding and ice cream and it was outstanding...oh yeah the meal was very good also. Pros: location Cons: none noted more

Nice Place 5/7/2009

Our family went out there for lunch last week and we had a real good time. Our waitress, I think her name was Sam, took very good care of us.\r Good drinks, atmosphere is cool but beware of the birds. They seem to have mutated into the size of pterodactyls. Pros: Pleasant and Friendly Staff Cons: Expensive more

DO NOT GO HERE 4/8/2009

My husband and I were only in Galveston for 2 days. The first night we arrived late and just had a drink on the deck at the Wharf and completely enjoyed the view and atmosphere. We decided to return here our second night for dinner. We were dressed appropriately and were prepared to spend good money for a good dinner. We were refused service after being seated and having our order taken. The manager apparently thought I had too much to drink before getting there (which is not true). We were not causing any problems. It is not a crime to have a couple drinks before dinner and have a relaxing time on vacation (especially when you are not driving). I have never been refused service anywhere and have never been so humiliated and upset. I cannot recommend a place with such discriminatory and incorrect policies. I am a Judge in real life and this is definitely an injustice. The waitstaff at the Mexican restaurant where we ate after leaving the Wharf said we were very pleasant and not a problem at all. Pros: great outdoor deck on the bay Cons: Discriminatory Service more

Bad service, average food, expensive, touristy. 6/9/2008

I ate at Fisherman's Wharf last Saturday's night with a party of 8 (my sister's family and mine). The last time we ate at a seafood restaurant in Galveston we tried Gaido's and loved it, but wanted to try something different. Also, they were closer to the Strand, and we thought we could do some shopping before or after dinner. We should have stuck with Gaido's. After waiting an hour and 50 minutes for our table (not that big of a deal, we fully expected to wait over an hour, and we had called ahead), they tried to cram us around two tiny round tables, (get the math?, they said ""well, it should work, each table seats four""). Although my stuffed shrimp was not bad, my son's shrimp alfredo was horrid, the shrimp had a lingering bad seasoning taste. The fried crawfish was tasteless, and the service was uninspired and slow. Overall, rather disappointing for the wait and price. Next time we go back to Gaido's. Pros: Ambience Cons: Slow service, average food, pricey more

Great service and food for large group 7/4/2007

Our 2 families visited Galveston recently. Truly enjoyed the experience at Fisherman's Wharf. We called ahead to let them know a big group was coming and we were lucky to get seated right away.\r \r Sat inside (given the humidity of Galveston, not sure how anyone can sit outside!). Anyway, right outside our window in the bay was an old schooner with a mock wedding going on... nice entertainment! Our wait staff was truly terrific (Randy well done!) While the appetizer of grilled onions was a tad greasy (wouldn't recommend them), the main courses came quickly and were well received by the table. Service was terrific and we ended the evening sharing some dessert amongst the table. Bill only put 15% on for service with the big group, so happy to add some more for the great service and value we received. \r \r Some have said in previous reviews that this is a tourist trap... didn?t feel this way at all for us. It was a great experience, with super food and outstanding service (and value). Pros: Great service, worked well for a big group more

Not so great 8/4/2005

The tables and chairs were uncomfortable and the mosquitos were quite vicious on the deck. The seafood sampler appetizer was over seasoned and way too greasy. The tuna sandwich was abnormally fishy and the shrimp salad was less than fresh. Probably won't eat there again. Cons: ambiance, food, price more

Bad place to ""try"" to eat 6/12/2005

On a recent visit to Galveston to eat on the pier, my husband and I went to Fisherman's Wharf and were told it would be a 30 minute wait for a seat with a view of the water. After an hour wait and watching several larger parties arrive and go ahead of us, I finally asked how much longer. Minutes later we were escorted past a two top table next to the window and led upstairs to a 4 top table in the darkest corner of the entire restaurant. Needless, to say we immediately got up and left. I stopped to complain on the way out and suddenly I was surrounded by two managers wanting to know what they could do to accomodate us. One manager followed us out to the street begging us to reconsider. It was too late. We will never go back to Fisherman's Wharf more

Great Ambience 6/24/2004

During Mardi Gras week, my sister and I had our departing meal here. We sat outside and enjoyed our hot, delicious meal while gazing upon the Alissa Clipper Ship docked along side the pier. The waitstaff was accomodating and personable. This is now a required dining spot when we return! Pros: Atmosphere, Menu appeal/service, Area attractions more

There are better places to eat! 4/16/2003

Fishermans's Wharf is nothing more than a tourist trap. I can tell you that few locals eat at F.W. because it is overpriced and the service is less than desireable. If you want the great seafood locals have come to love visit Gaidos, Casey's or Clary's. You will be glad you did! Pros: free parking, nice view Cons: overpriced, lousy service more

wait staff 4/3/2003

and that is what happened --- waited and waited ---- nice view up stairs but that was all --- was not busy --- staff slow --- you have an opertunity to do a fantastic business with the cruise lines in town now --- but if the wait staff does not improve. I hope you go out of business........ Pros: view Cons: slow, slower, slowest more

Oh how good this place used to be 11/24/2002

We visited FW a few times around 1997- 1999 and thought it was fabulous. Returned recently and wished we had gone somewhere else. The genius that thought of searving a wounderful flounder on a bed of cheap greasey french fries should be slapped! And it shouldn't take a genius to figure out that searveing fries as a side with a $25 meal is not only stupid but insulting to people who are willing to pay for first rate seafood. Pros: view, location Cons: pay to park, menu selections, poor value more

What a disappointment 8/16/2002

Poor value, mediocre food, less than mediocre service... Would not recommend it more

Harborside Heaven 8/12/2002

Just about the perfect setting for seaside eats and drinks ! The specialty cocktails are delicious and huge, the service is cheerful, attentive and experienced, and the food is pretty good too ! You will want to spend all evening soaking up the ambience and sipping the drinks. I can't wait to go back. more

Don't waste your time or money here. 7/29/2002

Use to be a good place to go on Sunday afternoon by boat for lunch or early dinner. Unfortunately, this is now a Fertita owned establishment, and while I admire his business acumen, he deals the death blow to the food quality in every restaurant he acquires. Totally ruined it for me. more

""Atlanta Food Critic"" 7/5/2002

I was visiting Galveston from Atlanta, GA and was told to try out the Fisherman's Wharf for great Seafood. The food was fantastic, however I was displeased with the lunch prices and the service. Most restaurants have a lunch menu, however, the Fisherman's Wharf doesn't think to offer this to their patrons. IN addition, the waitress was less than pleasant. She provided good service with no added commentary of how we were enjoying our July 4 holiday. I don't know about you but I like friendly servers who make you feel warm/fuzzy when you are on vacation. Go to the Fisherman's Wharf if you are just interested in good food without the added extras. more

Don't Bother 6/2/2002

The wait was almost 2 hours and even though we were starving, the food was not worth the wait. Poor service as well; couldn't seem to keep our drinks full. Try Gaido's,Casey's Seafood, Landry's, or the Ocean Grill- which are all excellent. That way if there is a long wait, it will be worth it! Cons: Wait too long, Poor Service, Food could be better more

Good for Galveston 5/16/2002

Although it seems like Landry's owns half of the Gulf Coast, Fisherman's Wharf is still a good place for lunch. The Po'boys are tasty and you have a view of the water. more
