Worst

We've been to Fishtales three times, and the place needs a good cleaning! If you sit on the balcony, watch for a repeat of Hitchcock's 'The Birds', but if you don't mind raptors ...

Great Server/service!!! 4/15/2012

My family and I are in Galveston on vacation and decided to stop by the Pleasure Pier construction and noticed the FishTales restaurant directly across the street. We stopped in only to be told the wait would be about thirty minutes. We decided to stop by the bar at the hostess' suggestion and there we were blown away by the service and thoughtfulness of a bar back trainer who introduced himself as Quentin. This young man made a quick work of putting tables together in the bar seating so we could dine while being served drinks with no wait time. After turning in my alert buzzer, Quentin had even resourcefully put three high chairs together to let my nephew sit at the table square with the rest of us- a stroke of restaurant genius! We will definitely visit again when we return for summer break... for the awesome service, the great food and Quentin! more

GREAT Happy hour! 7/13/2011

We wanted good priced drinks and yummy appetizers, with an ocean view. This location fit the bill 100%. The Shrimp kisses=Heaven wrapped in bacon. I gave it a -1 star for being a chain location. There are several Landry's owned restaurants on the island. So I cannot give it a 5 for originality. I also was pleased to see an extended menu into grilled/broiled, Galveston seems to have a lot of fried fish places.. unless you seek a higher end dinner ticket there is hope for those who wish to keep the oil where it belongs... tanning on the beach. more

Bad Food 7/5/2011

This place might have nice views of the ocean but the food and service is terrible. My order had bites of rotted taste and my wife more

This is a NO GO!!!!! 6/30/2011

Please, if you are planning to visit Galveston and Fish Tales was going to be your choice for dining, DON'T! My husband and I were doing business on the island and afterwards decided to have lunch at this restaurant. We decided to eat out on the balcony. All was great until another party was seated right next to us. How is it that we were never acknowledged by the waiter and were there before the other party was seated? No one ever came to take our order. We politely walked out and went to a friendlier place that was eager to serve us. Keep your money and go to a location that has great customer service. Fish Tales is not the place for that. more

Great variety, awesome view 5/26/2011

They have an amazing menu if you're a fish lover (which I'm not). I ordered the sliders and they were a little dry but much better than what I've had in some other places. My waitress was so wonderful. She was friendly and helpful and amazing. I loved looking out at the water as well with a completely unobstructed view. more

AVOID 2/26/2011

Why to avoid Fish Tales. Bad service and food. Me and my mom went to Fish Tales expecting great, fresh seafood. We wasted our money. I ordered the red fish and my mom ordered the snapper. 20 minutes later, our food arrives, looks great and we are excited. I take a bit of my fish and it is way over cooked and chewy. My moms tastes fine, but we immediately realize that our two plates look identical even though we ordered different fish. The fish is served tail on so we know we have an identical plate. I wait for the waiter to come back so I can let her know. Slow service so I wait about 15 minutes. I ask the waiter if our fish are correct and she says yes. I informer her that the tails are the same and we have the same fish. She looks at me and says ""just go with it"" and walks off. She could not care less that I did not get what I ordered. I call her back to let her know its chewy because she ran away from me last time. She says she will have it replaced. At this point my Mom is finished eating and I am waiting to start eating. 30 minutes later my new fish arrives. And big surprise, its a completely different fish. I let her know and she looks and says ""oh"" and walks off. I am shocked at the service she provided. I eat my meal angry and we get our bill. She charged us for both fish even though she lied to me about what kind of fish I had and she was rude the entire time, not to mention slow service. We speak to the manager on our way out and he couldn't care less as well. We storm out in huge disappointment. To sum it up, Horrible service, rude manager, terrible and overpriced food. Avoid at all costs. I am ashamed that this great location is wasted on such a horrible restaurant. more

BAD SERVICE 6/28/2010

The group of 8 that I was with was referred to Fish Tails in Galveston for dinner. After a day at the beach we went to make our evening reservations. We decided while we were there to go ahead and get an appetizer before we headed to the hotel to get ready for dinner. My husband and I ordered fried calamari and noticed after a while that there was a fly fried one of the pieces. We called the server over who said he would get the manager. The manger came over and we stated that we hated to complain, but there was a fly in the food. He quickly responded ""These dang flies are bad aren't they"" and grabbed the plate and walked off with NO APOLOGY. The group seriously considered canceling the reservations for later that evening. But after much discussion we decided that we give it a try for dinner. I vowed to not have anything fried and I did not. The food was okay, but the service was horrible. Food came out at different times, crab was over cooked and very difficult to get out of the shell and all the checks were incorrect. I know they were busy, but the service at this restaurant really is horrible. I gave it a second chance and that is it. I won’t return. Pros: Great Beach View Cons: Flies in Food and Bad Service more

Bad service 8/31/2008

Tonight (8/31/08) we went to Fish Tales with the other 2 families for totally 9 people around 9pm. The waitress only gave us two straws and said the restaurant run out of straw. Then we asked for bread because kids were tired and hungry after waiting for 30 min on the table. But she said the restaurant changed the policy plus there was no bread available; however, we did see other tables did serve some bread. The food taste ok, but the price is over its value. We all very disappointed the service there and will never come back to this Fish Tales again. more

Avoid at all costs 8/5/2008

My very first review! Must have been bad for me to right this. The restaurant had an odor of arm pits as soon as we walked up the stairs to the 2nd floor. The chairs were dirty. I ordered stuffed flounder and the fish was not flaky as if it was frozen and the stuffing was minimal, tasteless, and watery. My face is turning up just thinking about it. Complete waste of money. Pros: On the seawall Cons: Food, Lack of Cleanliness more

Sad experience..... 8/5/2008

My husband and I wanted to treat our 9 year old son to a good sea food restaurant in our visit to Galveston last month. After summing for a few hours we ask about a good restaurant and some local suggested Fish Tales. We went there all excited and waited to be seated, the hostess told us our waiter would be with us shortly but never showed up. We decided to wait for 10 minutes and no one even greeted us. We just saw people walking in front of us but never came by. We waited almost for 20 minutes until I got really upset and left when no one even noticed we were there. We all were disappointed and my son was sad we had this experience. more

What's wrong with ya'll 6/28/2008

We have been going to Fish Tales for several years and have always found the food and service GREAT!\r We were there June 25 for my birthday about noon. JAMES our waiter could not have done more. The food was great and took no time at all. Everyone there was friendly. I'm so sorry ya'll seem to have a problem. I was concerned when I read this site before we went because I thought things had change for the worst. NOT so just as good as ever. Thanks JAMES!!!! Pros: Love the open deck and Food Cons: NONE I can think of more

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! 6/20/2008

With out going into details- Bad and rude service, long wait for food, below average food, small portions, very high prices, and watch your valuables. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Horrible. 5/31/2008

This is the first time to actually write a review, obviously it was horrible, for me to spend my time and energy to say so. We arrived at 9:45pm. We were promptly seated ( we were a party of 7), Red was our waitress. Service was limited. I mean we had to wait for our iced teas, while the folks who ordered drinks from the bar were served immediately. I ordered off the kids menu, ""shrimpy"" shrimp, as did my little ones- they ordered ravioli bobbers (fried raviolis, although they, we were unaware of this when ordered), husband ordered fried shrimp, our son ordered shrimp po boy, father-in-law ordered fish-n-chips, and my mother -in-law ordered stuff shrimp. My meal was good, good flavor, hot, crispy. The rest of the fam, theirs, was horrible. The girls hated their raviolis, we were unaware of them being fried. My husband's was tasteless. His shrimp had no flavor, he didn't receive his salad, which he ordered instead of fries. My father-in-law couldn't even bite into his fried fish. I mean, come on. My mother-in-laws stuffed shrimp had a funny taste. Our teenage son's meal was okay. Not the best shrimp po-boy ever, but not bad. We asked to speak with the manager 3 times before our waitress went to get him. We paid over 125.00 for poor food, service, and response. Nothing was comped or even re-cooked. I know it was late, but your first meal produced should be the same as the last meal produced that night. There should not be a difference in service and product just because of time of day. more

Horrible Service, Mediocre food 5/31/2008

My husband and I ate here and were so disappointed. We went on a Wednesday...not a holiday, not a weekend. It looks like a fun place to eat. We were completely ignored when we walked in until we cornered one of the staff and she told us to go upstairs, after rolling her eyes. We get upstairs and wait at an empty hostess stand for about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledges we're there. When we finally are seated, there are are about four dirty tables that haven't been bused...and they stayed dirty the entire time we were there. Our waiter didn't show up at our table for 15 minutes after we'd been seated. Every member of the staff treated the customers as if we were in their way and interrupting thier day. The food was mediocre at best and overpriced in my opinion. We go out to eat very often, and have NEVER been more upset with the service or food ANYWHERE! There are several other restaurant in Galveston that have deck seating overlooking the water available. Go to ANY of them instead, if that's what you're looking for. Don't waste your money, your time, or your appetite here. Pros: We never have to go back Cons: Very rude staff, tasteless food, dirty tables more

Worst Service Ever! 3/15/2007

I brought my family and after we were seated we were asked to hurry up with our order. Chef came to the table and was very rude. Never will visit again. Pros: Location Cons: Service more

Bsd service with just below average food 9/4/2006

The service was really bad. Had to talk to manager just to get a few condiments and our check. The food was just OK and the kids did not like their meals at all. It will not be on the list of places to eat next time.... No matter what time of day there is always a long wait.... more

crowded, fun family spot 6/29/2006

seafood was really good. Although pricey, portions were huge. Service was ok. Upstairs patio with ocean view was fun. Good family atmosphere and big, happy crowd. more

Food And Service Sucks 4/9/2006

I Took My Family To The Resturaunt Nice View If You Have A Large Group They Will Sit You In The Back Where There Is No View A The Food Horrible Im Suprized It Was Part Of Laundrys Restraunts At Least The Others Are Average To Great They Have A Nice Snack Bar A Lot Of BlueBell Ice Cream Overall I Dont Recomend It Expecialy For Groups Pros: Snack Bar, View Cons: Food more

Good food, but crappy service 8/7/2005

I have only been to Fish Tales once, as I live in Houston and do not go to Galveston too often. I had the catfish, which I thought was really good, but our waiter was horrible. He was never around to refill our drinks or anything. Also, the food was a little pricey at dinner time, but the lunchtime prices seemed a little more decent. There was a great view from the upstairs balcony, so when you go, ask to sit there...especially at sunset. Pros: nice view Cons: price, service more

Horrible Experience 7/30/2005

Tried this place after seeing the crowds going in on Saturday. Didnt mind the wait upstairs at the bar, but the bartender had a serious attitude when we asked for a specialty drink menu. Excuse me, but how are we supposed to know whats in a KILLER WHALE? Anyway, didnt take long for seating and we got a dirty table. After ordering the calamari, we got it in 3 minutes (on a busy Saturday?) which means it was already cooked. Had no flavor. On our second bite, the food arrived! Luke warm and nasty. We wont be back. Pros: quick seating, view Cons: food, waitstaff more
