Misleading menu 1/8/2009

Being on a special diet (ordered by my doctor), I found something I thougt would be good, the ahi tuna served with the garden green salad. Well, when it came out, it was the tuna with a little bit of greens, not served with the garden green salad as stated on the menu. I asked the waitress ""what's the deal"" and although she agreed that the menu said what it said, I got the tuna with essentially no salad. To my knowledge she didn't persue it further, and the manager was not informed. I consider that their menu is inaccurate, that I paid for a salad that I didn't get, and I doubt that I'll ever go there again. I've eaten at many places on this planet, and have seldom found cause to complain. It is unfortunate that I complain in my own back yard. more

Not really worth it unless you want a Martini 9/28/2008

The ambience is beautiful-- wood structuring and it does have that cozy ski lounge feel. You can also see where your food is coming from which I personally like. The food is a different story. I think it's a very overpriced-- I guess you're paying their rent (in Southpoint Mall)-- because the food is just okay. I do love the lobster dip, my chips were too salty this time, but everything else would be much better if it was cheaper. I haven't tried the steak so I can't comment on its worth. I had a delicious Martini special and have come here just for the martinis. The service was okay, a big factor is how long it takes to fill my half-full glass, and they came just in time. We had to wait awhile for the check but considering it was busy with a 15 min wait, I'll give him a break. It's convenient if you're in the area and fits a typical Mall restaurant. It's a lot like Champs. If you're destined for a mall restaurant Calif. Pizza Kitchen and Maggiano's are the two best with the best prices. Pros: ambience, martinis, lobster dip, convenient Cons: overpriced, parking more

Good food, good drinks 9/14/2008

The food at the restaurant--from the bread to the Cesar salad to the prime rib and potato--were delicious. This was a really good meal. Their drinks are also top notch. I really recommend this place. However, it is not an inexpensive restaurant. Most entrees are around $20. Many of their drinks are around $9. And, it is a chain. But overall I'm very happy with this place and looking forward to going back. (Do arrive early or you will wait.) Pros: Tasty Cons: Prices more

Superb food fairly priced. Highly recommended 8/14/2008

We've now been twice to this restaurant and we have been *very* satisfied with both the quality of food and the service.\r The ribs are to die for and their fries are the best I have eaten.\r The lighting could do with some adjustments to make it a little lighter, but they try to create a warm ambiance and it works quite well.\r This is truly a great place to eat and it has now become our favorite restaurant when we fancy a treat.\r The have both a lunch and dinner menu, which is a little more extensive.\r There is one now at North Hills Mall, which is more convenient for us.\r Pros: Great food, great service and good menu chocies. Reasoanbly priced. Cons: Lighting was a little dark for us. more

Excellent service & Menu 6/16/2008

Good menu for any age, nice atmosphere for dinner/drinks or just dessert; wait and management/bar staff are professionally trained and take pride in their work; food is consistently excellent and if a busy or off night, they will 'make it right' for a great dining experience; been a regular for over 3 years and it's a place I can count on for a good evening/outing; call ahead seating is recommended at peak times; try their seasonal menus for real surprises/delicious; would politely recommend it's not a place to have smaller children for 'lengths of time' due to expected atmosphere while dining in this restaurant, great for family, but not 'family style budgeted eating' if you're looking to make it cheap (just being honest!) Pros: food, service, atmosphere Cons: call head for peak times more

unfortunately casual 8/29/2007

For the price of the food you would expect really good food, excellent service and a great atmosphere. The food is top notch (try the pepper corn crusted steak with a bottle of their house red). The service was quite good; the waitress knew what she was doing and was pleasant. The atmosphere was the problem. If I'm going to pay $35 for a plate, I expect it to be more of a fine dining experience, but unfortunately this restaurant is essentially in a mall and so they have customers walking in wearing T Shirts and trailing behind them are their kids. It's unfortunate that their quality of food and their service don't match their customers. If they imposed a dress code that would fix the problem but I don't see that happening at a mall restaurant. Pros: food and service Cons: under-dressed customers more

great food 12/18/2006

i enjoy the atmosphere as well as the presentation and dishes at firebirds. their deserts are awesome! if you enjoy a nice cabin like surrounding and a great meal where you can still hear your conversation, this is the place to be! try any of their wonderful salads as well as chicken dishes! more

Great array of meat choices 11/13/2006

This restaurant has been excellent every time I have dined. I have been there at least 4 + times. Excellent service, great buffalo burger and meatloaf. Servers are very attentive and knowledgeable. more

Stuck in my memory as completely unmemorable... 11/4/2006

For an upscale casual restaurant? Fine. For your average chain steakhouse? Fine. For service? Fine. I found nothing wrong with this place if you want to go out to have your average meal, but for the price, the food is completely unmemorable. At best, the decor is different. At worst, your food is way overpriced for the delight your taste buds expect. But if you are looking for a decent meal before you go to a movie at Southpoint, this would be a good choice. But boys, don't try to romance with this one. Pros: At Southpoint Cons: Chain, Nothing special in the food more

Pretentious atmosphere -- mediocre food 2/12/2006

The title says it all. The fireplace was nice - everything else was overpriced and of average quality Pros: nice atmosphere Cons: everything else more

Amazing Service 1/15/2006

The ambiance to Firebirds was cozy - sat next to a fireplace and had a feel of a Coloradian snowlodge. Had elk for the first time and their steak was very good. What amazed us was the service! The bar manager came over to meet with us, the waitress very attentive and when I left my purse by accident he ran all around the square to find us. The service there and after amazed us. highly recommended. Pros: Service, Cozy, Attmosphere Cons: Pricey more

Not Worth Raving Over 8/16/2005

We dined at the Firebirds in the new North Hills Mall. The ambience was quite nice; wood beamed ceilings, stuffed moose on the wall and an overall aroma that would make Emeril sit up and notice. The food, however, was just average. My steak was a bit chewy and the baked potato, which I ordered ""loaded"", was skimpy at best. The bartender needs to go back to school. Both my husband and myself ordered a mixed drink and neither one was very good. But overall, I enjoyed my visit and the waiter. He was very attentive to our needs and serviced us well. However, there was just not enough that intrigued us enough to make a return visit. Sorry guys. Pros: Ambience, Service Cons: Pricey, Average food more

excellent food and service 3/4/2004

THE FOOD AND SERVICE ARE TOP NOTCH AT THE FIREBIRDS GRILL. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT WITH VERY FRIENDLY AND ATTENTIVE STAFF. THE FOOD WAS FRESH AS WELL AS BURSTING WITH FLAVORS THAT LIT MY TASTE BUDS UP. WE VISITED ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON AROUND 4 PM HAD NO WAIT PROMPT SEATING AND PROMPT SERVICE. THERE STAFF IS VERY ATTENTIVE TO YOUR NEEDS AND WANTS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO EVERY. Pros: FOOD QUALITY, TASTE, SERVICE more

Oh the horror 9/1/2003

I recently tried Firebirds restaraunt and found numerous problems, along with several reasons for a return visit. The problems I encountered seem to be caused by an overbearing corporation. The wait-staff, while nice and helpful, seemed to follow some formula as to what they would say. This formula made the meal feel even more like a mall experience. The food was excellent and once the ""Spiels"" were done, I could actually enjoy the service. The ""credo"", on the back of the menu, seems to have been written by an eight year old, if you get the chance make sure to check it out, there are numerous errors in puncutation and grammar. Overall I give the restaraunt a 7 with the main redeeming quality being the service. Grant was an excellent waiter. more

Best in Town 6/20/2003

Firebirds is an excellent restaurant. The menu is huge and varied. Service is always prompt, friendly, and attentive. I'm a very picky eater, yet there are a dozen menu items I love - especially the BBQ half chicken, smothered in a sweet BBQ sauce that Firebirds makes from scratch. Just don't try eating at Firebirds on a Friday or Saturday evening 6-9. The wait can be up to 1 hour, and there's not a lot of room or seating in the waiting area. You can wait outside - as long as it's not cold or raining. Atmosphere is lovely - but a bit loud. With the open-style kitchen, the banging of dishes can raise the volume of conversation, making the restaurant pretty noisy. Tables are arranged at a good distance from each other, though, so you can still achieve a private, romantic experience. Pros: huge menu, good for picky eaters Cons: long waits on weekend, small waiting area more

Great Seasonings 6/15/2003

The house cilantro-lime dressing, the aroma of fire grilled meats, and the well-seasoned meals make the dining experience worthwhile. I have found the servers to be prompt and attentive, even when I had the misfortune of sharing a meal with an obnoxious colleague who was rude and condescending to the wait staff. Pros: Great Flavor, nice atmosphere Cons: Long evening wait, no reservations more

Service with a smile? 2/16/2003

The food was ok but sometimes you can help add to the flavor of the menu if it is served with a smile. The staff almost seemed like robots. Forget about telling me something you read in your company manual and tell me what you think. I have been there twice and it was the same experience. BLAH! Whoever trains these people needs to concetrate on personal service not mechanical service. more

I think I was served??? 2/10/2003

I took my family to Firebirds for a Saturday evening of dinning. Once I arrived, I was told to come back in an hour, so I did so. After an hour, I was told it would be only 20 more minutes to wait, but it ended-up being 45 minutes (poor service) and while waiting in the bar, the waitress kept wanting us to order more drinks. Well, we finished a bottle of wine, and we only did so to pass the 20 minutes away, but you could tell she wanted us to move on so she could collect more tips (very rude service). Well, finally we are given a table. Made our order, waited on the bread only to have the waiter to come back an say ""we are out of the prime-rib"". The waiter said they had ""ran-out"" of prime rib; this is at 7:45pm on a Saturday. Pros: atmosphere Cons: service more

What a find! 2/7/2003

Superb. I had, for one of the few times in North Carolina, a hamburger that hadn't been cooked to death. It was delicious and ample. My wife had salmon accompanied by a remarkable flash fried spinach that she marvelled at. We loved it and will certainly return. Pros: Attentive staff, Prompt service, Attractively prepared more

Classy joint! 1/21/2003

Wow, 'firebirds' was a great experience all around! First of all, the rugged decor was really cool. I had the 'Elk medallions' and they were EXCELLENT!! They offer a wide variety of dishes not normally found in the common places in the Triangle. Sure, it was a little pricey, but it was for a special occasion and the quality of the food met every expectation. Pros: Great food, Great atmosphere, Not crowded Cons: It's at the mall! more
