One of the Best Bars in Philly! 3/24/2009

Great bar for St Patty's, and Weekends...always lots of women and great music! Bartenders are personable and remember you when you come back, the DJ's and bands keep the women dancing---which is always good, and everybody always has a good time...the only drawback is the fact that it leans toward a college-aged crowd---which can sometimes get a little tiresome... Pros: Bartenders, entertainment, and women---oh my! Cons: crowds... more

Have Back up ID 7/28/2008

My Friends & I have gone to Finnigan's multiple times over the past 6 (yea that's right 6!!!) years. We've had bachelorette parties here, birthday parties...and have gone just to hang out. However, this past weekend, celebrating my cousins 26th birthday, she was carded and denied. She had her new drivers license picture taken 4 days before hand, but she wasn't carrying a purse and I believe the bouncer saw that and that's why he asked for backup. Happy Birthday to her, apparently she lookes under 21 HA! Also their website says no cover before 10. LIES!!!!!!!! The cover starts whenever the bouncer/manager decides. The cover was all night. with happy hour ending at 8, $5 cover started immidiately (I know five dollars isn't alot, but you can't help but think the bouncer may be pocketing the money haha). They need to fix their website and get some bouncers with less attitude. But the bouncer definitely put a drag on the beginning of the night, BUT We ended up at McFaddens right down the street and had a BLAST! Not that Finnigan's doesn't get enough patrons, but still they lost out on alot of money, we had about 20 people with us. Cons: Crowds, Young, Cover, Bouncers are jerks more

Bar may be good but don't book for a pary 11/11/2007

Planned a rehearsal dinner here. Beware of contract! The 18% sevice charge is not a gratuity. In addition get the name of the manager on duty. There were no managers available the night I was there. Our food that was contracted for was not served. When I complained continously over the next few days no one ever called me back. I finally wrote a letter to Mike Driscoll but he never contacted me. I was accused of walking out on a tab, lying and eating too much food. My guests left hungry. In addition, they closed the bar one hour earlier. The night was a disaster! Pros: None Cons: Everything - this place has gone down hill - what a disappointment more

Gotta Go To Finnigan's Wake 12/28/2005

The history related to this great pub is the local flavor, but those who ask and find the history about Abraham Lincoln upstairs is in for a treat. Clean, great food, a place to maKe friends if you can speak up and be polite! The beer taps flow and the bottles are flying and so are you if you know how to have fun. Great sports bar too. Don't miss St. Patty's Day at Finnigan's, it's worth the trip after the Festival at Penns Landing. Pros: Good Food, Pratical Pricing, Easy to find Cons: stairs up to the main more

Best Irish Bar in Philly 12/16/2002

Finnigan's is always a reunion for me. Everytime I go I run into all types of people for different times in my life. The atmosphere is great. It's definitly my favorite spot downtown and the best place to go to get crazy. more

Like a club without the dancing 12/8/2002

Finnigan's is a good place to be on the weekend because of the mixed crowd of college age people to the older more refined patrons. The bar itself has a good selection of beer and prices are the same as anywhere else you would go. Good music and good times are had by all! Pros: Music, Young crowd more

too crowded 11/29/2002

This is not a bad bar early. They let to many people in and you find yourself wrestling to get to the bar for a drink. more

Youngin Central 9/25/2002

Great place on weeknights,But forget it on Saturday.Unless waiting online to get in then not being able to move let alone get a drink once inside is your idea of a good time. Cons: crowded, hot more

great 8/7/2002

great live bands, best drink specials, very easy to get to Cons: gets too crowded more

Small but fun 7/31/2002

I had the best times going to this place after work. Its best in the summer because they have the back deck open and its a nice atmosphere- there are usually bands playing out on the deck. The drinks are reasonably priced- maybe $5 for a mixed drink. Its a bit crowded during happy hour but this is probably when its the most fun. I wouldn't recommend going here unless for happy hour. more

It ain't no funeral 7/29/2002

Despite the name, Finnigan's is a GREAT time. No saddness or mourning is going on here. It's a great spot to hang after work, especially on a Friday. There's always something going on and the free buffet isn't half bad either. more

Shooting Fish in a Barrel 7/24/2002

I'm origionally from the Texas/NM area and ever since I've been in NJ and going to Philly I've always ended up at Finnegans and had a blast. I've never had a bad time and I've never left without meeting someone new to spend some time with. Besides the people, the bands at Finnegans are always good to really rockin. In Philly, Finnegans is the place to be. more

Irish Pleasures 7/24/2002

I have been going to Finnigan's since i turned 21, and I have never had a bad time. All the bartenders are fast, polite, and handsome. The bands are always top notch. And the people are always cool. I love it at this bar. Pros: happy hour, bartenders, bands more

Editorial
  • In Short
This warehouse-like bar is less like a pub than a theme park for college students with voracious appetites for drink specials. Sure, the block-long facade of Finnigan's Wake is a recreation of an Irish street, and the bar's three floors are stuffed with enough Irish ephemera to turn your eyeballs green, but the place probably sells more Coors Lite than Guinness. The crowds come in droves on the weekend, and not to discuss Joyce.
