I made my second and final trip to Father & Sons today. The first time I went, back in the Spring, I thought it was pretty cool, if a bit overpriced. Today, it was junky, hard t...

More vintage than antique...and very pricey 9/6/2006

If you're looking for true antiques, you can pass on Father & Sons - most of their stock is 1960s & 1970s kitsch. If that's what you're looking for, enjoy 4 floors of furniture, vintage clothing, household items, and artwork. I just recently discovered the 2 upper floors - packed with better vintage clothing than the first floor and basement. Check out the artwork while you're browsing all the clothes - there's a lot of both! Prices are outrageous on the furniture, especially for items that haven't been refinished in any way. Head down to the basement for the toys, video games, and metal lunchboxes...just might find something you had when you were a kid! more

A+ 8/5/2005

Father and Son Antiques is an amazing store to shop in for furniture, or any accessory you may desire. There is a huge selection with a wide variety of style to accomidate any taste. It's the ideal downtown shopping experience. While I am glad that someone in the area is supporting second-hand designed and retro furniture etc, the prices at father & son are a bit over the top, and have been getting more absurd lately. I still shop there, but i usually leave a little annoyed. more

Everything at Father and Sons 8/2/2005

Father and Sons is the coolest shop in quickly-gentrifying downtown Raleigh, and the epicenter of all things retro. On the main floor, you can find vintage furniture, cameras, electronic and stereo equipment, tiki bar sets, lighting, glassware…and the list goes on ad infinitum. Downstairs is a good (in both quality and variety) selection of vintage clothing, with some pretty amazing sweaters, jackets, cardigans, and even cocktail dresses. On the third floor, lots more clothing, a few rooms with some amazing 80s era toys, along with tables and walls covered with an assortment of attractive and affordable works by local artists. The owner is friendly and easily approachable, and they host musicians for Raleigh’s monthly First Friday celebrations, which is a definite bonus. Check in often, the stock changes quickly and there’s always something cool, even if you don’t end up buying it. more
