OK, the pizza here is better than average, but at the recommendation this place is better than Luce is insance. Bland sauce, doughy crust, sparse ingredients, come on man!

Incredible 1st visit 10/2/2009

We recently moved to Edina and were told to try Fat Lorenzo's for a great pizza. They were totally right. We waited 20 minutes to be seated, but it was so worth it. The ingredients tasted like they just picked them and the crust was cooked to a soft slightly chewy bit of perfection. We also tried the Gelato Itialian Ice Cream, don't leave there without trying it, you won't be sorry!!\r See you soon FL\r TBone ICE Pros: Super fresh ingredients, incredible taste Cons: none really, maybe too crowded more

da best around 2/2/2009

this guy disagrees with the comment refuting the claim that Fat Lorenzo's is better than Luce. I live two blocks from the Luce in uptown and must say that I wouldn't even rate it top 3 in Mpls. I would rate Dulono's better even just in uptown. As for Fat Lorenzo's: this place brings the coolest dining environment, the friendliest service and the best tasting grub together better than any other pizzeria in this city. The aesthetics of the place are fantastic with its muraled italian landscapes and cherubs adding a sense of true escape to the dining experience. However I cannot stress enough that this is THE BEST PIZZA I HAVE HAD IN MINNEAPOLIS. No bs, no elite neo-beatnik foodie chef attempts to over spice/over garnish/over combine flavors and toppings. This place does pizza the way it was meant to be done, with a solid, simple family recipe that was formulated to get it right, and therein succeeds. Pros: awesome aesthetic, friendly service, incredible food Cons: it is not closer to my house more

It doesn't get any better in the Twin Cities 7/17/2008

Not only does Fat Lorenzos have excellent pizza, but they also are in a very cool building with great service.\r \r The staff has been friendly every time I've been there. The crust on the pizza and the sauce are both top shelf.\r \r Good stuff! Pros: Great value, excellent service, great food Cons: Only one in the Twin Cities more

Great Family Pizza Joint 6/27/2008

This is a great little restaurant to get take out, delivery or take the kids to. Its not fancy by any means, but the staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable, the delivery is quick and the food is pretty darn good. Its not diet....they pile on the cheese! The meatball hoagie is the best in town and I love their pizza sauce!\r \r Its noisy and fun and great for kids. \r \r The other reviewers that are looking for gourmet shouldn't be going to this little neighborhood joint. Leave it to the rest of us in the city!! Pros: Location, Food, Prices, Delivery, family friendly Cons: lots o' cheese more

Great Hoagie 6/19/2007

Pizza ok for a real Italian, but for all american city boy, toppings scarce, too much tomato sauce, little\r flavor except tomato sauce. However, the steak and cheese sandwich is 'to die for'. A Hot Hoagie\r thats toasted, full flavored, red dipping sauce, a real taste treat. Plenty of melted tasty cheese, don't forget\r extra pepperocini's (sp?)....Prices moderate to high for takeout food. Eat in is a questionable experience.\r Overall, if you already know what you like on their menu, you're safe. Pros: great hoagie, experience you will remember Cons: ambience, parking, experience you will remember, pizza more

The search continues 5/13/2006

I've been searching for the perfect pizza in the Mpls/St Paul area for years and have yet to find it. It was not found here either. The crust was a little thicker than I like, the cheese was bland, but the toppings were fresh and good. There were actually chunks of tomatoes in the sauce, which is good. If you are in the neighborhood, try it. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: parking more

This is a great little place if you love pizza it always crowded but it worth the the Waite, and would it be crowded if it wasn't good? It has the pest pizza that makes others seem bla and the serves is great once your seated. I would suggest to take it to go on Friday night. Pros: great pizza, great service, great desert Cons: parking, Waite, crowded more

Not a destination Restaurant 2/26/2006

If you're in the area, this is a good place to go. Food, service, and atmosphere is slightly above average. It's good, accurately priced, but not worth making a trip to this place. more

Fun Little Place 2/14/2006

Fat Lorenzo's is a great place to take the kids. The pizza and sandwiches are very good. Service is always excellent. It is amazing how many pizzas go out of the place while you are sitting there waiting for yours. They are busy at times but the food is worth the wait. And their prices are pretty comparable to other good pizza places. more

The beer redeems 1/2/2006

In general the resturant is cramped, but cozy. The pizza is average, and could be considered a bit cheesy. However, the great selection of beers and the neighborhood atmosphere puts this pizza place in the ""reccomended"" section. If you're in the south Minneapolis area and need your beer and cheese fix I can't think of a better place. Pizza snobs should look elsewhere. Pros: Beer selection, location Cons: cramped more

pizza TERRIBLE here 10/14/2005

People do NOT know pizza in this town, thus al the good reviews. Anyway they have other good stuff and great atmosphere. Pizza is WAY OVERRATED and any good piiza reviewer of this place has never had a good pizza. Soggy and greasy and way too cheesy. just disgusting IMOHO. Pros: cool atmospherer, awesome pasta Cons: airplane noise outsid, disgusting pizza more

Just get A bread Stick! 7/11/2005

At my work I recommend this restaurant to everyone who comes in from out of town, it is way to close to my office. Then when they say they are going to check it out I always find the time to join them. When my wife and I ride our bikes on the Mpls. chain of lake we stop in frequently. I always suggest starting with a fresh baked Bread stick. It is over 18 inches long and comes with the perfect marinara, caution when eating by yourself this may just fill you up. They have too many quality items on their menu. I have the strumboli appetizer and dont share, or one of their hoagies, so I have never had their Pizza? Pros: Food period Cons: Airport noise outside more

You'll Be Glad You Did! 5/28/2005

Pleasant setting with ""neighborhood"" atmosphere. Food was incredible and the friendliness even more so. It's view of Lake Nakomis adds a special touch to its cozy location. The owner, a real ""down to earth guy,"" spent almost an hour talking about his philosphy on his operation, ""It's all about people."" If you fail to go there, you'll never know the experience you missed. Pros: Friendliness, Quality of Food, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Finest Pizza in Town 12/21/2003

Here's the deal: Awesome pizza, good service. If you plan to eat there you get a great selection of beers and some appetizers. I recommend getting the big cheesy bread-twist deal. NOTE: If they tell you that it will be three dollars to deliver to you, you are TOO FAR AWAY to get fresh pizza. That three dollars isn't for gasoline, it's to discourage you from ordering because you just ain't close enough. Pros: Quality Pizza, Sometimes Cannolis, Cheap Cons: Crowded, Inevitable Obesity more

Family Nights at Fat's 8/3/2003

Good pizza, a nice selection of Italian entrees, fresh salads, one of the better bottled beer selections around - all at reasonable prices. Take these and put them into a small, neighborhoody atmosphere with a friendly waitstaff and you have Fat Lorenzo's. Their pizza is way above local chian places, however I do wish they would use a bit more sauce and less cheese. A slice of Fat's Special could easily take you over your daily calorie limit! The entrees are the surprise here. Lasagna, spaghetti w/ sausage (spicy and sweet - some of the best in town) and chicken alfredo are all satisfying and excellent values. Fresh dinner salads are meals in themselves. Also, don't let small dining area keep you away. It's a fun place that buries a night out at some sterile chain meat factory!! Pros: Dinner Entrees/Pizza, Atmosphere/Waitstaff, VALUE Cons: Go easy on the cheese more

Some Pizza with Your Cheese 7/6/2003

Fat Lorenzo's was a place that we went to right before hopping onto 77 after a fun day at Lake Nokomis. What better way to end a day than with pizza?! We ordered a hoagie and some slices of pizza. The hoagie was OK and the pizza slices were HUGE. The main problem? They try and win you over with cheese. I wouldn't be surprised if there was ONE CUP of mozzarella on my one slice. This in turn made the slice greasy and although I am a cheese LOVER (I always always order extra cheese) this was enough to block your breathing passages. The flavor would have been much better if they had used less cheese and a different combination of cheese as this was GREASE GREASE and more GREASE. more

Not the Best pizza 5/15/2003

While Fat Lorenzo's puts together a good pizza, it lacks the style and emphasis to put it in the league with other local establishments like the Original Green Mill, Broeders or Olde Pipper Inn. The slices are sizeable, and taste good enough but there are no distinguishing traits between this pizza and Old Chicago or other chains. The inside of this restaurant is cramped, but adequate for dining. I think they do mostly take out. I think the real appeal of this establishment is the location near Lake Nokomis. I suspect many people mingle the fun of the day with the fun of the restaurant. Pros: Taste, Location Cons: distinctiveness, greasy more
