Awesome Experience 11/19/2009

I apprehensively went to this facility today after seeing the 3 star reviews. I had an eye injury and was a new patient. The receptionist fit me in the same day and without knowing my exact insurance coverage, the receptionist looked up for me over the phone. I was delighted when I arrived that she had already completed the forms for me with my correct information. This was not an idiot receptionist by any means! I found her very efficient, helpful and pleasant. The exam was thorough. The doctor answered all my questions and even showed me how to put in eye drops. Everyone seemed genuinely concerned for my care and when above and beyond to make sure that I was comfortable phoning anytime if I needed anything! I did ask the doctor why he thought the office had received only a 3 star review on google. He explained that they had just replaced some front of the house team members due to negative feedback. It sounds like they are back on track! I would definitely recommend. Great place. Pros: Great Doctors and New Good Staff more

Great doctors; lousy, inefficient, insulting front desk staff 9/16/2008

I agree with both of the reviews I have seen to date. Yes, the doctors and medical/expert staff (eg the eyeglass repair ""dude"") are all very good at what they do, and will give you outstanding service. And Yes, the receptionists are completely incompetent, inefficient, and S-L-O-W to the point of painfulness. I find it most contradictory that you can have such wonderful doctors but such dimwith front desk people, but I find this is becoming more the norm than the exception, and Plaza Lane is in good company in that respect.\r \r But, I will say one thing most adamantly: if you injure your eye (ie, cut or scrape it) you will get no better care anywhere than at Plaza Lane. They can and will do minor, superficial surgery on your eye (with numbing stuff applied) and it is such a relief (even though it sounds gross!).\r Pros: excellent doctors Cons: idiot receptionists more

worst experience. would not recommend 8/27/2007

I walked in the office on my day off from work to make an eye exam appt and the staff was extremly rude and non attentive. I felt like no one wanted to pay attention to me because I was in shorts and flip-flops. But wether they knew or not, I was there to spend money. When I finished with the eye exam the doctor was thorough, nothing special. And the eywear selection seemd overpriced and eccentric. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Pros: beautiful office and location Cons: unpleasant experience more

great service, lots of frames to choose from 4/10/2007

I recently had my first appointment to Plaza Lane Optometry. I am a student at UCSC, and needed to find a place for new glasses here in town. I worked somewhat near to plaza lane and had always noticed how nice the store looked from the outside. The doctor that saw me was extremely personable, friendly and considerate to my needs.\r \r As a student I needed to get the most out of my insurance benefits, and the staff assisted me in doing so. I got a great frame, at a good price. I did not experience the same problems as the other reviewer, the staff was knowledgeable, and were very patient considering how indecisive I am about picking out a frame. The frames they had in their office were more one of a kind looking than the cookie cutters you find elsewhere. more

Do not Go Here if you can help it 2/15/2007

I found this place on citysearch when I broke my glasses and needed them fixed right away. Luckily, they had a gentleman who was able to fix them right away at no charge! With such a good experience, I decided to order a pair of contacts with them which later turned into a huge mistake. In short, the other receptionists there didn't seem to know what they were doing, were hard to talk to, didn't feel like they cared that much, and also couldn't work their fax machine which became a big headache. Overall, I spent about 5 days trying to give them my prescription with no success. I would recommend going somewhere else if you don't want any hassles.... Pros: good place to get your glasses fixed Cons: slow service, incapable receptionists more
