Best

First of all, this is a high end restaurant, they take reservations, and most people go well dressed. I like to go to restaurants with great food but I do not like to dress up, an...

Worst

I used to pass by Farallon on the weekends and always wanted to try it out. From the outside, the decor looks really grand. But when I actually went there, it wasn't so special....

Great meal!!! 5/17/2005

Every aspect of our meal was perfect at Farallon. The food was outstanding and the sercice was better than any I've had in the city. more

Go for a drink only 5/16/2005

I think this restaurant is sooo pretty, I absolutely love the decor. That being said they really need to work on their food portions. I am a 115 lbs. girl who never leaves a restaurant hungry until I went their. NEVER again will I eat there or should I say barely graze there. Especially for the price you pay. I'd go for a cocktail but I'm afraid that's it. Pros: decor Cons: portions of food more

Overrated 2/15/2005

I brought out-of-town friends here, and I can't believe I wasted their one SF dining experience at Farrallon. The decor was different, but not in a good way. The food was very expensive, and we all left hungry even though we had three courses. We spent a ton and would have been better off grabbing a slice of pizza down the street. Not recommended! more

Under the Sea... 1/6/2005

Popped into Farallon for a Thursday lunch and the DineAboutTown special. Decor is the big draw here, the Lost World of Atlantis motif gets you ready for some seafood. My friend had the whitebean mint pesto soup which she gave high praise and the grilled mahi. I had a small dungeness crabcake and rainbow trout complete with head and tail. Food was above average, portions on the average to small size. Service was excellent, staff is very well trained and prompt without being intrusive. Overall a good spot to bring the parents or a date for some seafood, lunch ran about $50 per person. Pros: Decor, Excellent Service more

Poor Experience 1/2/2005

I had guests from out of town and had heard that this was a nice restaurant. I was extremely disappointed! The service was about as bad as I have ever seen. The food was average, but my guests were treated poorly. I had reservations, arrived on time, but had to wait a long time. Some of my guests were older and had difficulties with the wait. Pros: ambiance Cons: , expensive, mediocre food more

Dont waste your time and money! 12/28/2004

For a restaurant of this caliber to server the main entree 45mins after it had server the starter dish is not acceptable! Other than our order being delay, they substitute the side dish from what was shown on the menu. Go figure! what ever happen to notifing the customer? The chef and staff has serious issues that they need to address. Otherwise this establishment is over rated. more

Love This Place 9/23/2004

Being an interior designer this place is 'eye candy' for me. The food is always impeccable in taste and presentation. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and pleasant. I love this place! more

It was OK (both visits). 9/8/2004

This was my second visit to Farallon in six months. I can't be objective since I don't like seafood. I had some type of beef on my first visit (it was OK) and the pork chop on my second visit (it was great - the sauce was superb! and it wasn't overcooked). My companion on the first visit thought his seafood was good (but not great) and my companion on the second visit thought her seafood was ""wonderful."" Dessert on the first visit wasn't memorable; we passed on dessert the second visit. Service on both visits was friendly and efficient; decor is fine; but the place is loud. It's not a ""romantic"" or ""intimate"" dinning experience. The booths/tables generously seat 5 or more. On my first visit I was seated upstairs. On my second visit, we sat in the back with the huge tables and lots of tourists (and teenagers). Pros: Not much more

Disappointing 9/5/2004

If you are looking for a romantic dinner, Farallon is not the place. Though the place is beautiful, we could barely hear each other across the table! Not quite the close, romantic dining I had hoped for. The food was extremely overpriced, and the menu was far too limited. The oysters were good, the appetizers were average, the entrée was sub-par, the service was friendly, but a bit slow. The desserts were great. For the price, I would have hoped for a much higher quality and taste. My entire meal tasted like anchovies, an addition which was not even listed on the menu! Pros: dessert, location Cons: , not romantic more

Superb! 1/2/2004

My wife and I have been here a total of 4 times now since we moved in November of 2002. On all occassions we have had fantastic food and service - not to mention one of the most elegant settings we've seen. We would recommend this to anyone interested in a romantic night out! Pros: food, wine list Cons: Parking more

underwater gala 12/11/2003

Some friends and I went for a birthday dinner, and needless to say, b-day girl was very happy! From the funky hip decor, excellent service, and fantabulous food presented beautifully, we had a fine SF gastronomic experience. We blew over $90 each for dinner for 4, but that included bday girl's portion, drinks for all, and we split appetizers and dessert. the waitstaff was also very pleasant and prompt, the kitchen was super-cool and gave us a free sampling of asparagus leek soup. very highly recommend! Pros: food, decor, service Cons: addictive!, can't do every day! more

Excellent 10/29/2003

1st time in SF and the only restaurant I'd go back to (out of seven). Atmosphere was excellent. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Pros: atmosphere, food, service more

loved it 9/29/2003

went last saturday for a dinner for two. rib eye was cooked perfect med rare, salmon carpacio was phenomenal, and the service was good [ono could have been better though]. overall, i would definitely will go back again. Pros: great drinks, food more

Farallon Knows Seafood! 9/13/2003

When my husband doesn't know what he wants to eat, he orders the Tasting Menu. In this case I can't imagine a better meal. From the extraordinary smoked salmon through the perfect crab ravioli in saffron broth with shaved fresh fennel to the scallop and foie gras and the striped bass on the freshest cranberry beans and corn you could ever eat, the meal was a marvel. And to top it off the PERFECT adult dessert -- figs poached in maderia with raspberries and ginger sabayon with hazelnut shortbread. Not too sweet, not too heavy, just HEAVENLY. Pros: Intelligent cooking, Perfect Service, Fresh ingredients more

Faralicious! 9/3/2003

It's like your eating in a beautiful airbubble under the sea, this restaurant has just a fantastic decor followed by an outstanding selection of some of the freshest sea-food and best steaks (surpise! Surprise!) that is San Franciscan has had in a long time. Come hungry and leave enchanted - you will not be dissapointed! Pros: Outstanding Decor, To Die for food, Amazing Desserts Cons: Noisy, Crowded more

Unresponsive Service 8/14/2003

The atmosphere, the food up to the appetizer/salad was good but then they DROPPED THE BALL. An hour passed and we had to ask our waiter about our order. Only a short reply ""kitchen is backed up"" was relayed to us. After that, we asked for the manager, who came over and to say the same thing with an apology that was far from sincere. Our mood and evening celebration for our party was broken and the manager did not do anything to remedy the situation UPFRONT. Upon the bill, the waiter advised us that our drinks were complimentary but I feel that at a place like Farallon, making sure that the customer is pleased each moment through the dining experience is more important than lousy $40 dollars. Terribly disappointed with their level of professionalism. Pros: atmosphere Cons: professionalism more

Rubbery fish 4/27/2003

The red snapper was undercooked and rubbery; not thoughtfully prepared. The ambiance and service were great. more

Fantastic Farallon 4/3/2003

My party had a terrific time at Farallon! The service was attentive and knowledgable. The food was delicious, and the decor was unique and inviting. I would highly reccommend this restuarant to everyone out there. Pros: atmoshpere, service, food more

Gotta love the sommelier 3/31/2003

Its refreshing to go to a restaurant with a sommelier who knows what he's talking about. My fiancee and I were having trouble deciding on what kind of wine to get since we were getting fairly different types of fish. We enlisted the help of the sommelier and I think the wine ended up out-doing the great food we were served. This restaurant also has some of the most inventive decor I've ever seen. If you've got $200 to blow on a nice dinner in SF, this is the place to do it. Pros: sommelier service, incredible oysters, interior design Cons: pricey, but worth it, uncomfortable booths more

incredible! 3/12/2003

Hard to make a dining decision in this city of great food, but this is definitely a top-notch choice. The food and decor are outstanding. Prices are reasonable for what you get. The trio of sashimi appetizer is to die for. Request a romantic table on the second floor--the atmosphere can't be beat. Pros: atmosphere more
