Evening Star Cafe 3/20/2006

I love this little restaurant in Del Ray. They have one of the best wine lists in the area. The popularity of this place though has led to this usually being very busy, so expect a short wait to get a table. The food is all of marvelous. The only negative is a wish they would close their font door in the winter. The draft that comes in from this door is very annoying. more

Yummy Brunch... 8/30/2005

This cafe located in the Mount Vernon area serves a delicious brunch on Sundays. They have the traditional pancakes, eggs, and bacon, along with breakfast sausages and muffins. For lunch they have juicy burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches. The atmosphere of this cafe is relaxed and casual. This place is a very kid friendly, neighborhood cafe. more

funky but good 8/24/2005

Evening Star is a gem in the funky Del ray neighborhood of Alexandria. It's sister store is a wine shop, which means you get offered surprising wines by the glass. The kitchen is electic/American and everything if fresh. The downside of the Del Ray location is the preponderence of children in the dining room, but if you go later you'll avoid most of it. more

The little star that tries too hard 8/23/2005

The place wants to be cutting edge electic. But I find it tries too hard to be different, esentailly making stuff that is not that good and overcharging for it. It does have a lovely wine list, but the dessert menu leaves this chocolate lover with a lot to be desired. The service there has never been great, and the place is small and cramped. It gets very loud in there very quickly. more

Great restaurant, wine shop, bar & lounge – all in one! 8/7/2005

We LOVE Evening Star -- the food is amazing... be sure to try the beef tenderloin on a bed of cheddar mashed potatoes and topped with onion crisps. YUM! They also have a great, very reasonably-priced Sunday brunch. In the back room, The Majestic Lounge is a great, casual place to have a drink (and play a board game). Upstairs is the No. 9 Lounge, a chic wine bar with plenty of couches and chaise lounges for great wine & great conversation. And don’t forget to visit their wine & gourmet shop next door – The Daily Planet… they have a fantastic selection of wine, and a modest selection of really, really good beer! more
