Best

Very impressed! My husband and I decided to go out for Thai while we were staying in Portland, and after reading reviews of several different restaurants, we chose E-San. My husba...

Worst

I wouln't recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service was the worst I've ever had to deal with in Portland. It took 45 minutes for our food to come and that was only when we ...

MEDIOCRE 3/13/2004

I tried three different dishes, and they all lacked the complex flavoring that good Thai cuisine is known for. I was very disappointed. more

Best Thai food yet 2/15/2004

I've been to many Thai restaurants in Portland and other cities, but none can compare to E-san. I love their beef salad, extra hot & extra spicey. My friends and I go there alot and the the quality of the food is worth it's value. Rafael is my favorite bartendar. He makes the best raspberry martini. All the bartendars make good drinks. Whatever I ask for, they can make it to suit my taste buds. This place has the perfect environment for a night out with friends. The service is great and the waiters and waittress' are so friendly. The only thing I would complain about is finding parking. Other than that, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. :) Pros: friendly environment, Good food, Good drinks more

GREAT FOOD COOL PLACE 7/16/2003

I had the greatest time and the best food at Esan's. I already went back with a bunch of people from work who also raved about it. They have a very cool location. Right in the middle of everything. Their food is awsome. I love the sleeping prawns, curry, pad thai, BBQ chicken, and I had some kind of stir-fry that was really good (we all shared - I wasn't that hungry). I'm going for drinks and food before going out on Friday and can't wait. Very COOL! Pros: Food is Awsome, Location is Great, Really nice people Cons: Haven't seen any yet. more

By Far the Best Thai Food I've Had 5/14/2003

Ive had Thai food from at least 20 restaurants and nothing has been as good as this. I love the downtown location and feel, but was more impressed with the food and service. I've been back about 10 times and had a different meal each time. Everything is awesome. I've had some of the other big name places and was very disappointed. Esan's please keep up the great work. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Good Drinks Cons: Honestly, none! more

Underrated 3/4/2003

In a city full of great Thai restaurants, E-San is definitely underrated. Try the Pineapple Fried Rice or the Pad Thai. These are comfort foods by anyone's definitions, and can be made as spicey as you desire. My wife and I have eaten here for over a year and have never been disappointed. Pros: Food, Value Cons: Parking more

won't go back 2/24/2003

over-the-top positive reviews drew me in, and left me wondering if i ate in the same restaurant. the gelatinous peanut sauce had all the spark of an alfredo, bathing chewy pork and mushy broccoli with blandness. took them a solid ten minutes to bring chili sauce, which came with my check, while listening to f.m. classic rock shouting from what sounded like a boombox. i suspect this place is winning its game as a cafeteria for the pasty downtown office set. head east, friends. Pros: frosty soft drinks Cons: bland thai ?!, inattentive service more

a humble recommendation 2/23/2003

try the nam kao. one of the best asian dishes I have ever tasted, and that is saying something. Pros: delicious, very spicy more

Portland's Best 2/4/2003

I've eaten at half the Thai restaurants in this city. I still rank this at the top, and frequent it more than any other Thai restaurant. The standards like Pad Thai and green curry are great, but the real secret are the specials like Nam Kaw and the pineapple fried rice. Don't miss it. Oh an if you like it spicy, they will glady oblige - a lot of people find even the medium to be on fire. Service is always friendly and usually attentive (sometime a little busy). Nice atmopshere, lots of room, all around a nice establishment. Pros: authentic, specialty dishes, flavorful, spicy! more

All dishes were amazing! 2/4/2003

Very tasty Thai food. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dishes. The staff was courteous and the service was excellent. I'll definitely be visiting again soon. more

Can we say fa-bu-lous?!! 1/6/2003

My husband and I went to E-San to ring in the New Year with a quiet, but delicious Thai meal. We were absolutely pleased with the delightful atmosphere, wonderful service, and yummy and fragrant food. The only thing missing was a fun New Year's package, but that has become so passe anyway. Try it. You'll go back a second time! Pros: Parking $5 1 block, Excellent Value, Friendly more

E-San well worth checking out!!! 11/9/2002

E-San was a pleasant find recently. I'm a fine connisseur of peanut sauce. Cha'Ba Thai has the finest in town, but I must admit that E-San is a very, VERY close second. The food is excellent, as well as the service!! Please patronize this restaurant. DO NOT GO TO TYPHOON!!! Pros: Excellent Service, EXCELLENT Peanut Sauc, Excellent value Cons: Ambience could improv more

Great for Vegetarians! 9/24/2002

Best pad thai ever! I'll admit, until recently, pad thai was the only Thai food I had tried and I loved it (which was why I had a hard time ordering anything else). I have had this dish at many Thai restaurants, but none of them compare to E-San's. I always order mine with tofu minus the egg. The tofu... wow... no one cooks it as good as they do. I eventually found another vegetarian to go with me and was able to order the pad thai and another dish (forgive me, I don't remember the name)... sort of like sweet and sour tofu. Excellent. My *only* complaint... when it's busy they may seat you near the bar, and the TV totally detracts from the ambience. All in all, it is surely one of my top five favorite restaurants, everyone I know will tell you how much I rave it!. Pros: Vegetarian friendly, Good value, GREAT food Cons: Often busy, Slice lemon lime soda more

Simply the Best 9/23/2002

My husband and I have dined at more than a dozen Thai restaurants in the last couple years, from here to Seattle. E San is simply the best. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is pleasantly casual, the prices are affordable, the selections are plentiful, and the food is always fresh and steaming hot. Dining there always leaves us in high spirits. I recommend the Pad Thai or the Evil Prince with seafood. Delicious! Pros: Excellent cuisine, Ample seating, Clean and pleasant Cons: Can be chilly, Meter/pay lot parking more

Best Pad Thai 9/3/2002

I keep searching for a better pad thai, but I have yet to find one! It may be a little on the heavy side (but c'mon, if you want pad thai, it's going to be a little heavy), but it's so tasty and peanutty! I get takeout a lot from here. I like the pad thai so much, I haven't tried anything else! I really like the feel of the restaurant and everyone I have taken here likes it as well. Pros: food, ambience more

love the Pad Thai 9/3/2002

Best Pad Thai in town.....I have always receive the best service and have always been happy with my food. more
