Tried this place last night for the first time. We got there around a half hour before closing - I asked if we were too late for dinner and was told, ""Of course not, come on in!"" My husband and I are both originally from the East Coast, and although San Francisco is definitely our home now, from time to time we miss the casual, homey Italian restaurants of New York. Ernesto's hit the spot. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, even asking if we were new to the neighborhood. I get the feeling that this place gets a lot of locals - we were told that they'd been in business for 23 years. When our entrees came out, I could understood why. Eggplant parmesan was especially delicious. It's just so great to go to an inexpensive restaurant and get great food and great service. Makes you want to go back for more. If you are looking for a good place for some Italian comfort food - this is the place - great food, great prices, no pretense.
