Get ready for a mostly positive review that hasn't been scripted by someone that works here. I have lived at Equinox since February 2009 (7 months) and am considering moving to another apartment only because the lease is ending and there are so many good deals out there. Equinox is, so far, very comparable to the places I've looked at (in many cases, nicer) and I definitely feel that I get a lot for my money here too.
There have been several car break-ins however never into mine and I live and park on the first floor. I also never leave anything in the car that I would be sad to lose. Management can't be held responsible for the actions of others. Drive 5 minutes toward 288, look around, and you won't be surprised there are occasional break-ins. I feel safe, however, because it is controlled access to get into the building from the parking garage which is an amenity many other communities are lacking.
Management has been very good to me. I don't waste time filling out papers for them to file behind the other requests that came before mine; I speak directly to Susan, the manager. She knows me and my husband by name and even recognizes my voice on the telephone. That's not to say we might not have to call twice about some things, however, 90% of the time the problem is taken care of promptly by two gentleman that so far have been trustworthy and reliable.
Noise hasn't been too much of an issue for us. When we first got here it was quieter and I do occasionally hear the neighbors above and next to us but not so much that it is unbearable. When I visited with a neighbor who lives on the second floor I realized that it could be worse because he tromped around like he was trying to step through the floor. I would recommend just having a kind chat with your neighbor if it is a problem for you. If that doesn't work then talk to Susan and I feel pretty confident that she will take care of it. The train that comes by occasionally is not loud at all. If I'm awake, I hear it in the distance but it's not like it wakes me up. They do maintenance on the courtyard every Tuesday and when they come by with the leaf blower it does wake me up (I work nights and sleep days) so if we do stay here we have it worked out to live on the 4th floor in the same unit for less money.
It would be nice if the gameroom was open late as in many other communities. I intend to mention it to Susan and find out the reason why ours cannot be open late also. It would also be nice if the "conversation pool" was actually a hot tub. But we can't have everything, I guess!
The interior of the apartment is much nicer than the others I have seen (especially for the price): real hardwood floors, granite, marble, very nice, soft carpet and very nice fixtures with beautiful and sturdy cabinets make this place stand out. And we have more space than we have stuff to fill it with.
It's very close to many stores and restaurants, down the street from Reliant and the medical center, and only 10 minutes to downtown. I-288 less than 5 minutes away with near immediate access to I-59 and I-45 (I-10 is not far, either!).
I would certainly recommend this place to anyone. Of all the reviews and complaints I've read about the other places I have been considering, I am really thinking of just staying here. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?. Just be smart and don't leave your belongings in your car.
Pros: Great management, beautiful apartments
Cons: No place is perfect. Please read review for more info
