Elysian Tangletown, Seattle Brewpub

Tangletown is a tasty restaurant and bar that has much better bar food than most places in town. It's a bit like a 74th St Ale House kind of place but I think it's kid friendly because it is a restaurant and bar. You should definitely try it out. The name comes from the fact that this is the name of that area of Seattle before it was actually incorporated into Seattle. If you need a similar, but not quite like, fix to Honeybear you can get pastries, cakes and such from Zoka a block away. more

The Elysian Tangletown pub is the ultimate neighborhood pub! In very few places have I had such great beer, food, and service all at once, in a place with such great ambience and location. The Elysian like any bar, is best when you live nearby and you can just walk over for a beer, dinner, or whenever. For food I would recommend the brisket sandwich, burgers, and the reuben, and I haven't had weekend brunch there yet, but the menu looks wonderful and I'm very much looking forward to doing that. As for beer, my personal favorite at the moment is the Pilsener, but on a hot day, the Jasmine IPA is super refreshing, but still a real beer. The ESB is the old standby, and I'm actually looking forward to the fall and winter so I can try the more hardy brews! more

This place serves beer from the Elysian, but the food is just not as good. It’s close, but not quite. It’s perfect for late nights near Green Lake: the crowd, usually families, leaves early so the place is left to people there for the beer. The atmosphere is generic, but perfectly acceptable. Two huge garage doors make this place pseudo-open air dining. more

So my wife and I just had our first baby (a healthy, hungry boy). And while we knew we had a lot to learn about the basics -- keeping him fed, rested and diapered while getting enough sleep to function -- we didn't realize how soon we'd face another new-parent challenge: finding quality, car-seat-friendly restaurants in our neighborhood. Our search has only begun (and I'm open to suggestions if you have any to share), but the Elysian Tangletown (near Greenlake) is an early winner. Baby or no baby, smoke free bars are (surprisingly) not that easy to come by in Seattle. Add to that a nice selection of locally-brewed beer, a solid and well-executed "bar food" menu (think burgers, salads, fish & chips, etc.), and an easygoing, neighborhood feel, and Tangletown stands out as a worthy destination for anyone. But Tangletown also offers the pefect combination of well-spaced tables, a steady hum of conversation and understanding waitstaff who won't even raise an eyebrow when your little bug is raising a fuss. If you need to get out of the house and want to take your newborn with you, Tangletown is a great pick. more

Tangletown is across the street (practically) from my other favorite bar - Luau. They're both relaxed and good for thirty-somethings. What I like about Tangletown is its versatility. You can go there for an after-work drink with friends, or for dinner (good burgers, fish and chips, salads, etc.). Plus it's big and open and restaurant-y enough that it's kid-friendly. I'm about to have a kid and I'm thinking "where am I going to go now?" The answer is Tangletown. Current enough I don't feel like a fuddy-duddy, but friendly and mellow enough for a new babe. more
