Poor Service, Rude Owner, Loud, Average Food 4/16/2011

Service is outright poor, waited over 10 minutes for any type of service. The owner needs to do some reading abut the state of Ohio drinking law, being a college town he should be up to speed as to understand that Ohio law provides that when you are with your legal parent and they consent, you are legally allowed to have a beer! The owner is his rude way, must think that he is running a 5 star establishment, wake up, only a 2 star at best; his big statement that the Columbus police will arrest me and my daughter and that the police have told him numerous times no provision for underage consumption is outright BS--being a highly educated town the owner should do some free reading on the internet. Bottom line the food is ok, the noise level is a 10+, you will sit right on top of other people, service is poor, food is average and the owner is rude-----Columbus has so many other great places---take your business to another fine establishment! more

Awful service, average food 12/19/2010

Had an awful experience at this restaurant. My wife and I went for our anniversary and ordered their top menu item. When the server brought our food out, he placed both of our plates in front of us and then presented my wife with a choice. Because the kitchen had cut a 7oz vs a 4 oz filet, they withheld (hostage?) the seafood portion of the meal. Her choice was to accept the 7oz filet or allow the server to take the ENTIRE plate back off the table, back to the kitchen so they could cut off 3oz of the filet, at which time, they would bring out the seafood. Absolutely ridiculous. We asked the bar tender walking through the dining area if we could take dessert in the bar, without breaking stride, he looked over, snorted and said "I don't care". I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy. more

Great Atmosphere! 3/18/2010

My husband and I are what you might consider "earlybirds". We like to eat dinner before 6pm to avoid the crowds...especially at the more popular restaurants. But even on St. Pat`s day you cannot order from the dinner menu before 5pm. Pros: Beautiful stained glass, good service, delicious food Cons: Dinner menu not available before 5pm more

A must try 7/20/2009

Besides the fact that this place is supposedly haunted and ghosts are one of my biggest fears, I absolutely love it and have become quit the regular! They make the best drinks, the food is consistently delicious and the service staff is very friendly . The food is reasonably priced for a downtown restaurant, and the beer is excellent especially the dark horse. I have never been a fan of dark beer, but this is one to try even if you never have been a dark beer drinker in the past. As far as the food goes I especially love the crab cakes but the rock filet is really fun for a special occasion. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and is definitly the spot for an amazing date night, a night out on the town with friends, or for relaxation after a long day at work. Hope my review helped, and enjoy! Pros: Food, Drinks, Service and Atmosphere Cons: Possibly Haunted??? more

This place is gorgeous! 3/16/2009

I love this bar! It is so beautiful and open. The food and service are great. They have great beer as well. It is really easy to find. You have got to try this place! more

Cool building 11/29/2008

The space is the best part about this place. The old bar and tiled floor are beautiful. The beer selection is also pretty good. The food is just really average. Overall, still worth at least one visit. more

Nice place to eat with home town beer. 6/30/2008

Im not a big beer drinker but my husband loves the selection... I like supporting local businesses and this is one worth checking out. The food is good but a bit pricey which is to be expected from a downtown restaurant. Nice servers and envronment! more

Elevator Restaurant 2/5/2008

This place has awesome fish and special meals on its menu. There is parking nearby which is good because it is downtown a few block from the Capital building. They also feature their fresh brews some of which I like. The price is moderate - it was featured in the fine dining section of the Entertainment book. Nice special night out place. more

Horrible Service, Overpriced menu 1/1/2008

This was some of the worst service that I have ever had at any upscale restaurant in Columbus. Our server was not attentive and when asked simple questions about the food/drinks would answer rudely and would not be of any help. Additionally our server was rude and refused to split the bill for our group but did not make us aware that we couldn't split the bill until after we were ready to pay. Besides the horrible service, the food was decent but was overpriced for the quality. more

Great find! 1/19/2007

Have been here twice now. Once for lunch once for dinner...The building alone is worth the visit. Very nice decor. Food has been GREAT both times...The beer is not out of this world, but it is fun to do a beer tasting. I really enjoyed the Hefewiezen...Had the Chicken Salad and it was divine. Husband had the Chicken Pasta and really enjoyed it. Service was quick and friendly. Definitely will go back here. Pros: Location Cons: Parking more

Beautful restaurant, one of the most unique places I have ever been 9/14/2006

I was in town on business and my hotel recommended the Elevator for dinner. There recomendation was perfect. The bar is amazing (over 100 years old), they brew all of there own beer which is great since I love beer and trying new ones. The food was also fantastic, I ate there 3 times in the 4 days I was in Columbus. I recommend the rock filet if you have never been. I also had the Almond chicken salad for lunch (my server told me people are addicted to it and I can see why. The bartenders were actually very knowlegable about the beer too. Over all a must see while you are in town. Pros: Food, service, beer Cons: none more

Nice place 5/19/2006

We went on 5-19 and had a great meal. The MLS team DC United sat by us. Food was great got the hot rock and it ws fun to cook my own steak. It got really well don if you left it on there. Then wen in the back and played pool. Had the procrastinator double boch it was great. Kids liked the brownie. Pros: food, parking next door, beer Cons: none more

The scene is fabulous. The old bar and blue lighting really makes it more of a special night unlike normal breweries. Great beer, excellent food and the atmosphere makes you not want to leave. The art on the walls is highly rated to view. Pros: Excellent Beer more

Fantastic Brew Pub! 9/10/2004

This has to be one of the best brew pubs in the state-bar none! Although the meals, while really great, are slightly expensive, this place is still worth the trip. Also, there's a few things on the menu that are delicious and not too pricey. Try the Hummus & Pita, and the Spinach and Pear salad! the Rock Filet is the specialty and it's dynamite! A knockout beer selection tops it all off. Don't listen to haters who say this place is too snotty. It's a fabulous place to have some good beers and good food. The pool tables are great too! Pros: Great Beer Selection, Delicious Food, Ample Seating Cons: , Slightly Pricey more

Great Draft beer 6/3/2004

The wife and I stopped in here for a few beers while staying in Columbus. We arrived at 6:30pm and the place was fairly crowed, but it was a Friday night after all. We did find a small table and I sampled all their beer (you get a small glass of each). Their beer is very good and I enjoyed having a little of each. We just ordered some appetizers and they were very tasty. Tried to stop in here on our next trip but a private party was being held so couldn't sample anymore beer. more

Fun place to dine 3/13/2004

My husband and I both really enjoyed our experience here. We started with an unusual appetiser, beer corn battered brats, we were pleasantly surprised at how good they were. I ordered the surf and turf on a rock, a very unique dining experience, you cook your steak and seafood on a rock at your table. We both enjoyed our food, and would return here if we were in Columbus again. Pros: Atmosphere, Good Food Cons: , Only house brand beer more

This place is great! 2/25/2004

I'm sure I have been here more times than any of those providing the negative reviews, and I have never had a bad experience here. I agree with one of the reviewers who claimed that those looking for a chain restaurant or bar like TGIF should just stick to that! The beer selection is great and it tastes good too. I have only eaten here twice and the food was good, although not fine dining, but you are at a microbrew with the most unique atmosphere in Columbus, set in a historic building with original stained glass and a very cool looking bar with pillars and lots of other neat interior work and ambience. I recommend you go at least once or twice and try an original Elevator microbrew and/or a mixed drink, which is typically very well made; sit back, be social, and enjoy the atmosphere. Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks, Beer selection more

Great 12/9/2003

Ate an early lunch here and it was excellent. Everything was great. From the appetizer to the dessert I could not recommend this place more. The beer was also excellent. I could see that it may get loud and busy for dinner. However the prices are average for a good meal, the place is beautiful and the food and drink great! All in all one of the best resteraunts I have been to...no idea where the negative reviews come from...unless of course good dining to you is TGIFridays then you may be let down....culture shock I guess. Pros: All Cons: None more

Horrible 3/14/2003

DO NOT TRY THIS RESTAURANT!!!!! EVERYTHING WAS HORRIBLE!!! The best part of the entire evening was leaving and going somewhere else. Overpriced, in-edible, and rude. Stay closer to the Arena or the Short North, you'll have a better time. Pros: none, none, none Cons: overpriced, horrible food, weak drinks more
