food was good, the lady taking my order 4/27/2012

food was good, the lady taking my order was uncomidating and rude. i always say. the customer is always right. i asked for a combo burrito where i would like half beef and half pork. for one of those days you really cant decide, she bluntly said no, so i offered to pay extra, she said no. so i left and did not eat there anymore. there are other places just as good but with friendlier personnel. more

El Taco De Mexico 3/30/2011

I know the place get crowded, has been around for a while, et cetera. BUT, the fact is the place is filthy. The all-female wait staff plays dumb (or simply is dumb), particularly when it comes to price. Not to mention, the food is always cold! They are very slow, to boot. My favourite is when I, one time, paid a waitress (they only accept cash, by the way) and she pocketed the money. I had been there a number of times and was certainly recognized. When I returned another time I was handed a check (BY THE VERY SAME OLD LADY!). That took some nerve. I refused to pay it. She got the message, I announced so everyone could hear, specifically for the benefit of the customers, that I paid her in cash and directly, and may SOMEHOW the cash ended up in her pocket rather than the register. Believe me, guilt has a way of revealing itself. Also, when you order, the dumbness is profound. You finally get your food and, because they added something to it, you always pay at least two dollars more than the menu price. Overall, the salsa is good, the food is cold, the wait astaff is dishonest, and plan on seeing a cockroach or two walzing around the bin where the food is kept. ALL TRUE! more

Still the best! 12/4/2010

I have been going here since the eighties, when it was the old building as portrayed in a painting on the wall. Sure things have changed, but the food is still the best around. The beans are heavenly, and everything is made with a lot of care. This place is real, and I doubt the ladies working there cook any different for their own families. If you are concerned with a place that does not sparkle or that is a little frayed around the edges, you may want to go to Chipotle, it is likely more your speed in both decor and authenticity. Get the chili relleno burrito with a side of beans and 1 lengua taco. Then go take a nap, you'll be full! more

used to be better 4/19/2010

back in 2004 when i worked in this hood i would go all the time. Loved it then. Things change. Over the past couple years the prices have gone up and burrito size has gone down. There is also many more gringos nowadays which has no doubt had some effect. i.e. they dont like white people. The employees (ladies) have always been less than friendly or welcoming. If you go with a group, bring a calculater becuse there is no telling what they will charge you. burrito and taco size has dimniished greatly since i started going. I also dont think the green chili is near as good as it was. AND HEY, ITS 2010, get a F*cking credit card machine already!! Last time i went I got instant diareaha on the drive home which made it a real white knuckle ride! i have eaten here hundreds of times and nothing like this b4. I do still like the special breakfast. its cheap and filling. Im sure i will still go back hoping that it will be like it used to be. TIP: hit up the curtis park creamery instead. cheaper and better. Pros: special breakfast, authentic other than price and portion. Cons: unfriendly staff, dirty, no credit cards, Food safety? more

Extremely unsanitary experience means I won't be back 8/5/2009

I used to eat here a lot. The food is great. However, having endured all of the unsanitary things the staff do, I had an experience which will make me never go there again. The server put several handfuls of raw bacon into a bowl, without wearing gloves, then without washing her hands, poured my drink and got tons of raw bacon mess on it. Can you think of anything more unsanitary than that? There is no telling what other kind of gross and dangerous things they do with the food. They also use the same salsa bowls with the same spoons for customers all day. Pros: Tastes really good Cons: Extremeley unsanitary, could get extremely ill, rude service more

Love the buche tacos. This is the most authentic Mexican food in Denver. 7/7/2008

\r \r Give the ladies behind the counter a break and a nice tip - they work hard over a hot stove all day. You don't come here for charming waitstaff, you come here for the FOOD. And it's great! \r \r About those buche tacos - it's pig esophagus. Ask for and use lots of lime juice. Don't be complaining about $11 a plate (three tacos, rice and beans, plus drink) - it's cheaper than a trip to the border. If you could get this food in a fancy restaurant, it would be at least twice as much.\r \r Colorado Mexican food is not like this - because this is Mexico Mexican food. You know, like what they eat in Mexico. In Mexico, everything is not smothered in chile sauce (bleah). How do I know? I lived in San Diego for 18 years. \r \r If someone's looking for REAL Mexican food in Denver, this is THE place. Pros: REAL Mexican food! Cons: Not elegant. Not fast food. But I don't consider this a huge drawback. more

Great Food - Not so friendly staff 4/11/2008

I eat their frequently and I have never heard ""thank you"" to date. I stopped tipping because of that reason. more

Poor value 4/4/2008

I got a three taco plate with an orange juice for $11.50. The tacos were tiny. Even with the rice and beans, I left hungy. Each taco had two small tortillas. They were like appetizers. The taste was okay, but I really felt ripped off. We got there early, but the place was still a cluster. I like Tacos Y Salsas on Federal and Alameda much better. They have much better tacos el pastor there.\r more

Go for the food, not the atmosphere! 8/9/2007

Simply the best authentic Mexican food in town! I have been going here for 15 years and still have cravings for it. If your taste is gringo fast food from 7-Eleven then do not attempt this adventure! more

This is by far the greatest place to get a burrito in Denver 7/7/2007

I have been a true customer for about 13 years. I have tried just about every Mexican restaurant in town but have not had consistant cravings as I do for El Taco. It is not too expensive either. My favorite is still the breakfast burrito with potatoes, topped with salsa and an Orchata. My boyfriend enjoys the breakfast plate that comes with eggs, potatoes, beans, rice, bacon, tortillas for around 6 bucks! Some people might think the customer service is not so great but some people also don't know that the women who work here (they have been the same women since I started coming here) appreciate tips. Although you order from the bar, it is nice to leave a tip!!! This is a great place to go after a hike or after a camping trip!\r \r Enjoy! Pros: Burritos and Orchata Cons: seating sometimes not available more

*BEST* GREEN CHILE IN DENVER!!! 1/6/2007

YUMo....if you are searching for the best green chile in Denver, give them a try....spicy and delish-ENJOY!!! Pros: YUMMY GREEN CHLIE Cons: atmosphere and service, nothing to be desired!! more

expensive, rude service, tastes like Benny's 12/5/2006

I am shocked that this restaurant got such positive reviews. I ate here with my husband and had the tacos. No cheese, just bland, dry shredded chicken, and some hot sauce. He had a burrito. I could not believe how expensive the food was, Their version of a veggie burrito consisted of rice, beans and cheese. If you want it smothered its 1.00 extra. Tomatoes and lettuce are 1.00 extra. Even the burritos filled with meat don't come with lettuce, or tomatoes. The smothered burrito was swimming in sauce-so the rice and beans got really sloppy and it just dissolves. They nickel and dime you for everything. I have yet to find a CHEAP Mexican restaurant that is actually good in this town. \r I also don't want to return to a restaurant that doesn't thank their customers. The employees were flat out unfriendly. The food is as bad as the attitude. I will NEVER eat here again. I could go to 7-Eleven and get a microwaveable burrito that tastes better, and for a lot cheaper. Pros: Fast Cons: rude service, expensive, overrated more

If you walk past ..... 5/1/2006

If you walk past this place to get to the one down the street, you've gone to far. Oh, the one down the street is good, if you want to sit and sip margs. on the patio and enjoy a ""nice"" meal, but this place is great, true border style chow. For 10 or more years, Ive had to ""get my fix"" here. My favorite is still the chili relleno burrito. Once I took my 70 yr old, finicky Mom in for a Saturday shopping quick bite and she loved it. more

Delicioso!!!! 5/10/2005

This place is phenominal!!! The salsa is so good I could drink it!! I live in the Springs, and we will drive all the way up to Denver just to eat here!! The chile Rellanos are authentic and fresh, not over-stuffed with cheese, or drowned in unflavorful sauce. You will not be dissapointed, it's worth the drive for sure!! The only complaint I have is that there isn't one here in the springs... maybe one day there will be, until then I will be commuting to savor the El Taco De Mexico flavor. Pros: Tasty, Flavorful , Authentic Cons: only in Denver more

The best authentic Mexican food in town. 3/30/2005

The nice women behind the counter serve up the best burritos and tacos in Denver. Don't be intimidated by the Spanish language menu board (it isn't difficult to order even for the biggest gringo). The green chile is fantastic and the prices are right. Can't beat it. Pros: Great Burritos/Tacos, Cheap, Pleasant Service Cons: Please open more! more

The Real Deal! 9/19/2004

El Taco de Mexico serves up good, authentic, mexican food...some of the best I've had in Colorado. We ordered the chilie relleno burrito and the chicken sopes....both were fantastic. Loved the food so much, we went back for a great breakfast burrito the next morning. It's so great to find good mexican food, not the smothered in cheese Tex-mex crap! more

Rico Menudo! 1/9/2003

Try the menudo on Saturday or Sunday (only days offered) it's some of the best of the soup style stuff around (the other stew style stuff must be found elsewhere). Breakfast is worth being late to work for too! Burritos make the gringo Chipoltle/Q-doba chain stuff seem like the high end Taco Bell fare they really are. Mmm. Pros: taste, aroma, satisfaction Cons: weekend menudo? more

bueno 8/5/2002

Wonderful green chile with tons of pork and good and spicy. more

Rice & Beans from Heaven 5/23/2002

I fell in love with El Taco de Mexico when my husband & I were first dating 10 years ago & I still love it! The tacos al pastor can't be beat and I have to have the Chile relleno burrito at least once a week! The one negative reviewer must be like the chain resturaunt with the talking Chihuahua and the chalupas! Not me give me the good stuff! Pros: Inexpensive, Good Parking, Speedy Service more
