We keep going back 1/9/2006

My family and I dine at El Sombrero regulary. We have favorite menu selections, but on New Year's Eve, we were pleasantly surprised with the special - a flavorful shrimp dish. Also complementary marqarita's! The ample servings fill us up every time - even our teenage son. Usually have to get a "doggy" bag. But I'll never pass up the black bean soup. I even get that to go for a fast lunch sometimes with the chips and salsa (I love that fresh salsa) We've tried the flan, fried ice cream and fried cheese cake for dessert. They really hit the spot. The atmosphere is plain, but the service is great Pros: good service, menue selections, specials Cons: plain atmosphere more

Best Mexican Food Anywhere!! 10/24/2004

I have been a loyal patron of this restaurant since childhood. The quality of food is unrivaled, especially the chili. While the interior of the restaurant is rather plain, the food and the inviting family atmosphere more than makes up for it. If you are looking for an authentic meal made from fresh ingredients, this is the place for you. Don't forget to BYOB! more

Odd place 5/22/2004

We walked in to a empty place an the onwer claimed all the tables were reserved. We had our meal after he squeezed us in and by the time we left it was maybe 65% full...so I have to wonder what the bit was re: no tables. More or less it seems most of the patrons were regulars who knew the owner well based on the mucho chit chat going on between he and them. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Food very good portions decent. The place is kind of dumpy though...chips cold as stated by others..etc I havent been back and I live within 5 minutes so what does that tell you? Pros: good food, good service Cons: , zero ambiance more

Out of Their Jar 7/17/2003

Tortilla chips were more like leather than corn. Obviously a low quality store bought chip - served cold. But that's not a surprise considering the "Guacamole" (unrecognizable smooth green goop), Chile Con Queso were out jars as well. The main course was no better. Tasted like a Goya jar sauce special. I would recommend the large chain Tex-Mex restaurants over this place. Sad and not cheap. Pros: None Cons: Too many to list more

Montezuma's Revenge? 8/15/2002

Not a very good experience at all...I would recommend Taco Bell next time. more

Mexican Treats 8/7/2002

Good food, good portions and low prices. Authentic mexican food and very good service. more

Don't drink the water! 7/31/2002

Not even close to a 10 rating. To start, nacho chips were cold and stale. Food was ok, not very much in the way of extra trimings for your meal. Everything seemed to have an extra charge associated with it. Pros: not crowded, good service Cons: stale nachos, hard to read menu, expensive more
