El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant

I love the food. The tamales are the best I have had in Nashville. My husband and I or my sister and I go here at least 2x a month more

I went to lunch there this afternoon. I was waiting on someone to serve me when I witnessed one of the waiters stack three basket of chips from tables that he was bussing and sit them on table in front of bus station. He preceeded to pick a couple of piece of straw paper out the basket and head back inside from the porch. I had hunch where these chips were headed so I followed him in and I was right.... straight to the chip bin in the kitchen. enjoy your (or the previous customers) chips and salsa.\r \r Not going back... The food is just OK; they serve the usual fare: burritos, fajitas, enchiladas and such. None of it is very exciting but it is edible. But their servers combine ignorance of English with rude demeanor. Never a ""please"" or a ""thank you"" or even a greeting when you sit down. It's service with a SNARL at El Mariachi. This place is great for happy hour. The patio is large and covered - perfect on a Spring or Fall day. Good chips, salsa & queso. The food is certainly palatable, but it isn't anything to get excited about. It's basically the same menu from most other Mexican places around town. I eat at this place all the time and love it because of the staff. They are friendly and quick. I have never had any problem using a credit card for payment at this location, you cant beat their patio in the spring/ early summer. The food is good and it is a fun place to hang out. more

While my car was in the shop one day, my mom and I decided to eat lunch here because it was near the place where my car was being fixed. BIG MISTAKE!! My mom and I each had tea, and a lunch special. Our tab was less than $15. My mom put it on her and my father's joint credit card, along with the $3 tip. Lo and behold, when my father got the statement, the $18 charge we signed for had turned into a $90 charge!! They ripped us off!! When my mom called about it, the young lady who answred the phone didn't speak enough English (or pretended not to know any English) to be of any help. After many phone calls, and even several trips back to the restaurant to see the manager (who was never available), this still has not been resolved. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Buerau, but, as of today's date, we still haven't gotten our $72 in over charges back, and we honestly don't expect to. It is THEFT plain and simple!! The food wasn't all that exciting, but if you MUST go, DO NOT USE A CREDIT CARD!!! THEY ARE THEIVES and you WILL get ripped off!! Actually, I would HIGHLY recommend Camino Real in Hickory Hollow. The staff there is amazing, and the food is excellent! Plus, they won't rip you off!! For me it was a reminder of what Real Mexican food from Texas was like. Fresh chips and Salsa. Service was quick and i had a Chicken Chimichunga that was stellar that along with the Rice and Beans (hot plate). Im part of the Lunch crowd, but for 7 Buck's its worth it considering the alternatives in the area. Sat on the veranda and ate. We knew something could be wrong when our top shelf margaritas were so watered down with maybe three ice cubes in them. We then left after only a few bites of our meal because it was so bad. The texture, taste and presentation were so unappetizing and unappealing - I've no reason to believe that real meat was actually used - it will be awhile before we eat any kind of Mexican food. This is a restaurant I used to frequent a lot in college for margaritas, chips and salsa and a fun atmosphere...but since graduating I hadn't eaten here in a while. My last visit secured El Mariachi on my list of favorites once again. They have a fabulous deck when the weather is nice and my favorite new find is the shrimp quesadillas...these must be the best in Nashville...with Las Palmas running a close second. Nashville (and Tennessee) is inundated with many of these el cheapo Mexican places. They are all the same, only the name is different. They all have the same menu selections and the same food and flavors. The ground beef in the tacos and other dishes tastes like something similar to dog-food. The chips and salsa are maybe the best thing there, the beer is cold, and the service is usually good. OK for a quick lunch. These restaurants are sort of the ""Shoneys"" of Mexican food.
