Best Mexican bread in Los Angeles 12/23/2008

I have been purchasing Mexican bread from El Aguila for over 30 years and I can attest to the fact that their Mexican bread is always fresh and great tasting. The first reviewer sounds like they have a grudge, because they are not telling the truth. Their bread is never dry or old. In fact, I drive a long distance just to buy my bread there. It is my favorite place to buy Mexican bread. I highly recommend it. Their tamales are pretty good, as well. Pros: The parking is right in front and they are open early, late and on the weekends. Cons: They are too far from my home. more

Whoever wrote the comment as being ""THEE"" bakery in town has probably either not tasted what true ""mexican bread"" is -or- is an employee or owner of this bakery because the bread is dry & tasteless which leads me to believe that it's old. Not only that but it's expensive! But I understand why they have been ""successful"" -they take advantage of the fact that there are no other bakeries of that kind near by. So please, do not get misled...you'll probably get fresher bread at Ralph's or any other market. But if you have a craving for this type of bread and don't mind it being old...I guess you have no choice but to go there; though I would not recommend it. Pros: No other bakery of that kind near by Cons: Old, dry, tasteless & expensive more

The Best Mexican Bread in El Sereno 11/6/2007

I grew up in the El Sereno area, and as far as I can remember, El Aguila has been thee bakery for the locals. There has been other bakeries who have tried to make their mark, but they have come and gone. El Aguila, which has recently received needed remodeling is the place to go for Pan Mexicano. Their bread is very original and so delicous with your side of coffee or chocolate caliente. They also make menudo on the weekends (bring your own casuela) $10 dollars feeds a family of 4-6, and it's so yummy. I recommend this bakery to anyone who loves Mexican pan dulce. They have it all, my favorite are the conchas and palmeras. Pros: Best Mexican Bread in the area Cons: Long lines on the weekends, especially early in the morning. more
