My husband and I were recently visiting family in Sedona and decided to give this place a try. The service was prompt and courteous. The food was wonderful and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was great, too. The owner even stopped by to check on us and make certain we'd enjoyed our meal. I can definitely recommend it. more

Chimichanga Heaven! Margarita Bliss! 3/10/2012

Our first visit to El Rincon was in 1982 on our first trip to Sedona. We love El Rincon and have always had great food and service. Their Chimichangas are delicious and truly different then you're used to. Our server told us the recipies come from the Santillon Family in Jerome, AZ. Senor Santillon was Spanish/Mexican and Mrs Santillon was Navajo. El Rincon's ""Arizona Style"" is really a central Arizona regional cuisine. Margaritas are wonderful! Try the jalepeno prickley pear margarita. It's the most tasty and interesting margarita I've tried anywhere. We have sat inside and on the patio, both are good. The patio is fun and relaxing. They can be busy with a little wait, but always well worth it. I highly recommend this place. more

el Rincon Restaurante Mexicano is the pits! 6/25/2009

I could not have been less pleased with the welcome my family and friends received upon our visit to this restaurant. Apparently we committed the cardinal sin of not having a reservation even though the restaurant was nearly empty. We were very pleasant and asked if any seating was available. We were told that it would be no problem even though an older woman with short gray hair seemed to have an issue. After being seated, we continued to receive attitude, especially from the older gray haired woman. We opted to leave after ordering drinks. For a business that is reliant upon the good will of its customers, this one seems not to give two hoots! We took our $125 worth of business to the competition. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant and I will be telling my many friends who live in the area about my experience. Cons: Poor attitude of wait staff more

Terrible Mexican food 9/11/2008

As a traveler from Alaska, and a huge lover of Mexican food, I was very excited to try this restaurant that has won awards over the past 30 years. As we sat down, our waitress quickly brought us our salsa - salsa that was obviously poured from a jar. I ordered fajitas and my husband ordered a quesadilla. Both are so hard to mess up that it is no wonder I felt like I was in the twilight zone when I received my food. The beef was flavorless, the sour cream frozen, the guacamole bland, and the rice and beans...one bite was all I needed. The quesadilla was made with processed cheese, reminding us of Velvetta. I forced down one fajita wrap and declared that I was done. And my husband could not be persuaded to help finish my plate. We paid our bill, and as we left I spoke to the manager for a few minutes. She seemed astounded that we didn't like the food. Then she told us that even she didn't recommend the fajitas to people. And as for the rest, well maybe the chef was having an off day. I looked her straight in the eye and told her honestly that it really was the worst Mexican food I have ever had. There are Mexican restaurants in the middle of Alaska with better food, and not a person speaking Spanish in sight. I was not surprised that we weren't offered a refund which would have left us a little happier. As it stands now...we still refer to that meal as ""The Meal"" and shudder in disgust. Maybe I was just very unlucky, but I cannot fathom how this restaurant could win so many awards for its food. Pros: Nice location, decent service, outdoor section Cons: Terrible food, difficult parking more

Viva Mexico! 8/27/2004

Excellent Mexican Food in a very pleasant, quiet atmosphere. Not your typical noisy Taco Joint. The food was fresh and well prepared, the Service was very efficient and friendly. Altogether a spicy but relaxing evening. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Value more

Owner Message
  • El Rincon opened in Sedona in1976 as the premier restaurant in Tlaquepaque Village and is a family ownded business. Never using lard or preservatives they have consistently served a unique Arizona Style traditional Mexican. El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano created the Navajo Pizza. On the reservation they're called Navajo Tacos. Taking the same Sopapilla masa and rolling it around beef, chicken, shrimp, green chili or some combination, the unique El Rincon Chimichanga was born. No other Mexican restaurant uses real hand rolled masa to make their Chimichanga's. That's just one of the reasons why El Rincon is so special and unique. El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano brings you a blend of traditional Mexican and native Navajo available no where else in the world.
