Old fashioned Cinema 8/25/2005

The Egyptian is a great theatre for the old time feeling of a small town theatre. Only one new film at a time, plus weekend midnight showings of old cult classics. They have popcorn and candy as well as a coffe stand to keep you awake for the late show. While the theater itself is a bit run down, it has much more character and atmosphere than any of the big shiny multiplexes. The actual theatre is spacious and has a great art deco egyptian design. Cheezy but fabulous. And they still have matinee prices for matinees, something that seems to be disappearing in Seattle! more

Home of the SIFF and sweet midnight movies 8/21/2005

The Egyptian Theatre in Capital Hill is home to the Seattle International Film Festival, billed as “the largest in North America.” But for most of the rest of the year, it’s an eclectic home to independent and foreign films. The film selection, quirky décor and beer and wine at the snack bar make for a good night out. They often have midnight movies that are appealing to folks willing to sit through a movie at that hour—recently it was “The Godfather.” more

Not your local multiplex 8/20/2005

The Egyptian has what it takes to be a great theater. It has cool Egyptian motifs in a spacious old-style theater with even a balcony. They offer all the necessary concessions plus espresso. They are part of the Landmark Theatres group so they get new releases, and you can purchase discount movie passes. Get comfy and enjoy the show. more

great movies, great ambience 8/19/2005

This is a wonderful old theater with all kinds of great decor inside, including intricate tile mosaics all around the front of the theater. It plays art house films and is part of the Landmark chain, which consistently shows good movies. It is conveniently located in Capitol Hill near a lot of bars and restaurants. more

Great atmosphere, great movies 8/18/2005

The Egyptian offers the best of both worlds: a fantastic, atmospheric place to see a movie, AND a great roster of films. The Egyptian usually screens the latest art house hit, and the converted Masonic hall creates a unique environment. The screen is decent, and the sound is good. For a great theatre-going experience, check out the Egyptian's midnight shows. They usually screen a cult favorite, and often the audience really gets into it. more

Likely My Favorite Theatre in Seattle! 8/17/2005

The Egyptian is conveniently located near a lot of restaurants and other assorted interesting things, at the intersection of Broadway and Pine on Capitol Hill. THere are many good films shown here, usually for several weeks at a time. The screen is large, the sound system is adequate. There are good prices and deals on snacks - and they even have great espresso. A particular favorite is the midnight shows of old films (Goonies, Akira) on Fridays and Saturdays. A hint: parking in the SCCC Parking garage on the north side of Harvard & Pine is only $3 for the entire evening. more

Great for weekend nights 8/4/2005

The Egyptian Theater has midnight showings on Fridays and Saturdays. These movies are usually show an old movie or classic (but at least you are out doing something right?). In regular hours the theatre shows independent films, which are sometimes great. This place is great and they sometimes have movies that you want to see on the big screen but are too old. more

Late Night movies!!! 8/3/2005

Ever have a Friday or Saturday night where you don't really have plans but want to get out of the house? Well, the Egyptian Theater has late night movies at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. They usually show an old movie, classic or foreign film. For example, they just showed Godfather, and this week Godfather II. Keep this theater in mind during the regular theater hours too for independent films. more

Late Night Movies 7/2/2005

The Egyptian is a great theatre and a top notch date spot. They often have midnight showings of past favorites, and are a stop on the Seattle International Film Festival circuit. The theatre has a unique art deco feel that you don't find very often any more. A good place for a memorable film experience. more

A hipster's paradise 5/28/2005

The Egyptian has an awesome feel with old-style lobby and beautiful theatres so you can look at something other than the ads before the movie. They show an interesting selection of films even if they don't always have the latest heart-throb. the mid-night movie is a boon for anyone who works late or just wants to stay up once in a while. If you are looking for a clamer, less commercial night out, try out the Egyptian. Close to lots of great restaurants. more
