Best

Love Effies!!! Great Mousakka and tatziki! Portions are large (enough for two meals), service is fast, and they are consistent. I need an Effies fix at least once a week.

Worst

the food is good, but not great. the salad did serve 4, but it ought to for $16 - and there was very little dressing and flavor. the feta was very tasty, and good olives. our...

eh 12/20/2005

the food was just alright... but maybe i'm just not a big fan of greek food. the staff was really nice even though we got there a half hour late (party of 6). i love byob so that is a plus to me. i've had MUCH better baklava in greek owned delis and homemade stuff. but also, in its defense, it was really late and it may have been a bit old. Pros: BYOB, cute outside seating, friendly staff Cons: not as good as expect more

The place to go over and over and over again 6/25/2005

i was envited to the opening day at effie's and i am a regular customer. its always better than the last time. i recommend effies to all of my friends. it might be small, but the food is so good that i do not mind the wait. i would like effie to continue with good luck. more

High Hopes 11/23/2004

A recent visit to this familiar and reliable restaurant was a disappointment. Though the ambiance and friendliness can't be beat (eating outside is great), the entree they said they were out of appeared at 2 other tables--the waitress apologized. The Greek food was bland and lacked in the freshness and presentation. My date had a great sense of humor--that and the wine we brought saved the evening. Pros: atmoshpere, courtyard more

I was not ""Effin"" impressed! 3/6/2004

After using this site for suggestions as to where to get good takeout on a rainy night, Effies came out on the top of the takeout list. I was in the mood for some pastitsio and my boyfriend wanted a Greek salad. Perfect, right? Nope. The pastitsio was dry and tasted like it had been *gasp* microwaved. Yuck! The salad was extra watery and even with grilled chicken added it wasn't very flavorful. It was also expensive for what it was - close to $30 for the two dishes. I recommend South Street Souvlaki or Zesty's in Manayunk. more

Beautiful Patio 7/3/2003

If it's nice out and there is room, you have to ask to sit outside. It is so beautiful - you feel transported out of Philadelphia to someplace in Europe. Great food too!! Pros: outdoor seating, delicious food Cons: small indoors more

Charming 3/12/2003

Effie's is a wonderful place for dinner. I live nearby and eat there often. The mussels are fantastic, and I really like the octopus. The fish is always fresh and the desserts are simple but delicious. Effie herself is often there and she's very friendly. The waitstaff generally are friendly as well and the service is pretty good. The only drawback is the popularity of the place on Friday and Saturday nights. It's hard to get a table right away and there's no place to wait inside, so when it's winter it's a cold wait. Pros: Food, Style, Friendly Cons: Popular more

Still Dishonorable 1/9/2003

One of my friends had made reservations for our party of 6 on a Saturday at 7pm. But when we got there a few minutes early, we were told that they were'nt ready for us, it would be another 20-25 minutes, AND we'd have to wait outside in the freezing cold. We weren't even given any apology, just asked rudely if there wasn't any place else we could go for a few minutes. Despite that, we waited outside for 10 minutes and watched 2 parties of four and 2 parties of two get seated, and then we were told it would still be 20-25 minutes! We went to Mixto instead(4 doors down) and had excellent service and great food. Cons: No waiting area, Rude service more

cozy joint 12/20/2002

Had a nice simple, dinner the other night with a few friends. While the menu was not overbearing, I found that they offered more than the 'typical' Greek restaurant. The food itself surpassed the prices we paid and I'd definately go back. Great place to go for a date: quaint back room and outdoor patio (must be great in the summer). Pros: cheap, good eats, intimate, cozy, good service Cons: not for large parties more

Effindelicious!!! 11/20/2002

Forget you ever saw Marathon Grill ranked above this wonderful, cozy, friendly, and delicious restaurant! My boyfriend and I just tried it out this week and left with big tummies, happy faces, and plenty of spare change. We tried 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a huge mound of baklava--all for $46! The service and food were great; very homey. Spanakopita and baklava leave little else to be desired. Pros: casual, friendly, byob, inexpensive Cons: no reservation policy, small space, cash only more

Watch the Waitress! 10/28/2002

This was a really great restaurant. Many times i have convinced my pals to walk all the way down to pine to eat there. But watch out for the waitresses.....one of them hit on my guy on our first date. more

We love Effies!! 8/20/2002

Our first visit was over 2 years ago, and we still go to this place every chance we get. They have great food, and they treat us life family. We love Effies!! more

yawn 8/15/2002

like most greek restaurants the veggies were overcooked and mushy. good tappas but nothing to write home about. I needed a drink by the time i found a place to park and they are a byob. Pros: byob Cons: no parking more

YUM! 8/12/2002

SO delicious! We had the greatest dinner. The mussles sauteed with mustard and white wine app. was to DIE for! YUM! There was lots of great specials to choose from and the courtyard setting was romantic...though the inside was quaint too. I'd say to go EARLY. It get crowded! And bring a good bottle of wine. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. This is my favorite spot in the city! more
