health food store and vegetarian deli/hot food/bakery 9/7/2005

I have no idea why this store is classified as "Medical and Hospital Equipment." I am reviewing the health food store that all the reviewers so far have been talking about. This store is pretty big, and has a large selection of produce and organic/vegetarian/vegan products. From what I've seen, they don't carry any meat products, while many health food stores choose to sell free range meat. They also have a deli/smoothie counter with vegetarian lunchmeats, a hot food buffet section (pay by the pound), a salad bar and a bakery. The food is sometimes good and sometimes not. I have found hairs in it before and encountered rude staff when trying politely to report it. If this happens to you, go to the manager and get a refund. The bakery is the best part. Try the vegan streudel!!! It is amazing. more

Edge Of The Woods 8/23/2005

Long before the internet, Edge Of The Woods was the one place in the area that you could find foods if you had a gluten problem, where a diabetic could find sugar free snacks that actually tasted good, carob brownies that tasted like chocolate brownies, loose tea leaves that were fresh and available by the pound - much like the estate teas but way cheaper. Many people who wanted certain herbs or vitamins or teas could find them here. If you have certain health concerns or issues, many cancer patients, diabetics and others find some of the alternative treatment foods and supplements that you can hardly find anywhere else. Fresh veggies and vegan food, they have also added a prepared food section that even a twinkie loving person can find something healthy and good for you that still tastes good if you are super picky. Prices are exceptionally reasonable in light of the items you can find here. If you have any food restrictions or want to eat healthier or feed your kids foods without excess chemicals and additives, Edge Of The Woods is the place. Additionally, if you are trying to follow the Perricone diet or similar skin and beauty based eating habits, many of the unusual to find items are available here. (The C ester, etc, cheaper than it is available in beauty stores) more

Healthy Food 8/12/2005

Edge of the Woods has been New Haven's response to healthy food. Primarily catering to those that prefer natural food, they aren't necessarily a solely vegan place. They have a bakery on premises and have tons of freshly baked goods. They also feature vegetarian lasagna as well as other vegetarian foods for those looking for that. The full market also hosts many local brands of natural foods such as peanut butter, jellies and locally grown vegetables. Although they are higher priced than those you can find in the supermarket, they are catering to a specialized crowd and market. Their hours are reasonable, and their selection is great. more

So you want to feed your vegan/organic habit... 7/18/2005

Looking for organic, unprocessed, fair trade or local grown food in the New Haven area? Drag your socially conscious self over to Edge of the Woods for decent produce and a wide selection of other "health" foods. If you couldn't care less about vegan frozen dinners or free range quorn, you still might want to check it out for the wide variety of spices, teas, and the bakery in back. The vegan tiramisu is to die for. Even if you're able to eat the real thing! more
