For those who love Poe... 10/3/2005

What a fun place!! We took one of their special mystery tours once and we had a GREAT time. I have also taken the self-guided tour, and yes, the basement is much spookier just thinking that Poe lived and wrote there adds a certain something to the ambiance that other period houses just cannot match! Visit the shop there, it is a reader's delight...a Poe reader's anyway! more

Poe's tales are terrific. 9/11/2005

The Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site is where Poe lived during his six years in Philadelphia. This is also where he wrote many of his most famous tales. There is not much left in the house, which allows the imagination to wonder. There is a self-guided tour that ends in the cellar, the dark, scary cellar. If you're a fan of Poe and/or his poems than you should schedule a visit. more

Well-crafted site with informative guides 8/12/2005

I've been here a few times on visits to Philadelphia, and I've always enjoyed myself. As a die-hard Poe fan, I got a real kick out of this place. They like to put on mystery tours with a Poe flair - call ahead to find out about them. When we were wandering around in one of the rooms, we found a fake heart under the floorboards. Now this is a sense of humor I can really appreciate! They probably use it on the mystery tours. There was also an informative movie, and the guides were really knowledgeable. The gift shop was well worth it, too, as I found a lot of good books on Poe. more
