Great Lunch 5/11/2009

Probably the best Asian restaurant in Alameda, and there are dozens of them. Must be 100 seats and the majority of them get filled at lunchtime. Prices are very reasonable. more

Good Chinese food 9/16/2005

There aren't many authentic Chinese restaurants here in Alameda, however, East Ocean is one of the authentic Chinese restaurants that serves Hong Kong style food. At lunch they go all out with dimsum items that brings many East Bayers out to feast on the delicacies of Chinese cuisine. Their dimsum items are delicious and so are their noodle dishes. One item I wouldn't order though is "gai si yin min" which is a chicken strip braised noodle dish. When we got the dish, at first we couldn't find any chicken at all. But on inspection, we found little tiny threads of chicken. Usually the chicken pieces are larger, but it was a total rip off here at East Ocean. I'd stick to the dimsum items for lunch. I've been here for lunch a couple of times, but I found their dinner items to be a bit too salty (maybe with hints of MSG?). But other than that, East Ocean is a pretty good Chinese restaurant, considering the limited choices we have in Alameda. more

good view, decent food 8/19/2005

I've gone to east ocean seafood restaurant several times for dim sum. the food is pretty good, but considering the crowds i don't think it is all that great. but what keeps me coming back is the view. it is right on the water's edge, so is a great place to take people visiting California--they get a chance to experience great scenery and try dim sum for the first time. more

Average 8/16/2005

East Ocean Seafood offers basic Chinese food consisting of fried noodles, and dim sum. Some may think higher of this restaurant, but to me it seems mediocre and basic. The prices are also high and the food they give is amazingly small. However this restaurant is distant and easy to find, but prepare to wait in line! more
