Don't be fooled by positive reviews 7/6/2010

Finally tried this place, and I am totally convinced that the rave reviews have got to be from employees or owner's freinds. We were seated, and like another reviewer wrote, the waiter seemed very put off when we did not order wine. We ordered our food and I was even told by the waiter that my selection was ""quite a bit of food"". We received one small loaf of bread (six people in our party) , that was literally tossed onto the table as the waiter rushed by. It not cut even half way through, no knife, no butter and no dish to put it on. Food was below average at best and way overpriced, especially considering the extra-small portions.. I had three green beans and three overcooked carrot slices as the vegetable side! The only thing that this hole had in common with a good restaurant is the price. I will never ever go to this place again. Do not go! Do not go! Cons: Overpriced, small portions, poor service more

The BEST 8/2/2009

Unpretentious yet perfectly executed, this simple approach to traditional cuisine resonates the ""back to basics"" style this talented chef has made his trademark over the past two decades. Unwaivering from modern, over-complicated attempts, Dwight represents everything that is true in a memorable dining experience.- Marissa Day Pros: cuisine, ambience Cons: no liquor more

Was not impressed 3/8/2009

First of all our waiter was not very friendly, (an older man, did not get his name) and acted burned when we did not order wine. Our food came very quickly we were rushed so gave us the impression they did not want us to stay to long. One of us had the lobster appetizer and one the lobster dinner, there was barely a difference in size, the grilled vegetables were not really appetizing at all. Then the pasta side dish was one ravioli. The lobster was OK, but not great. The best dish on the table seemed to be the Carbonara. Everything was ala carte. I ordered ice tea and had to ask for it three times and he never apologized for forgetting to get it to me. We were offered cracked pepper for a salad but never during the main course and there were no condiments on the table. I know that a Chef does not like food tampered with, but the food was very under salted and seasoned. For the price it was really a disappointment and I cannot recommend it and I will not go again. Cons: Unfriendly waiter more

wow! 11/11/2008

WOW! This place is absolutely to die for! The rundown stripmal that it is on gives not the slightest hint to what awaits you inside. The prices are just a touch high but for the most part it is worth it. I have been their countless numbers of times and have tried everything. The one thing thing that sticks out is the homemade pasta that is made by hand and fresh every morning. The waiters their are absolutely wonderful. Compared to Mathew's and geovanies the portions are outrageous. I am telling you you wont be dissapointed! Just give it a try and before you know it everyone knows your name and you are treated like a king! Pros: everything Cons: nothing besides the outside more

Dwights Bistro - For a wonderful night out with that someone special! 8/3/2008

My wife and my mother both agree that in another life I was a restaurant critic. I''ve been dining at Chef Delude's restaruants for almost 15 years. The menu is not overwhelming and the atmosphere makes you want to stay and talk among friends. After a few visits, you'll feel at home. The food is consistently the best I've ever eaten. What makes Dwight's different from most restaurants is that the owner is the Chef and the Chef is always there making your meal. It's not like most big name restaurants now a days where Jose finishes up cutting lawns and then works the night shift on the grill. Dwight puts 100% into every meal - nothing less. I'm not a realtive or an employee, I'm just an absolute support er of Dwights Bistro. If you've got a discriminating pallet, a few bucks to spend and a great personality, then you're the kind of person I'd enjoy eating a meal next to at Dwights. After being able to dine there a few times a week, I moved on and now only get a chance to dine there every few years, but I'm never disappointed. You won't be either. Bon apetitie! Pros: Phenominal food, outstanding service and great music. Cons: You'll think you overdressed when you see where it is. more

overpriced and not so great 7/23/2008

this place was recommended by a friend...she said it was fantastic. When we drove up...we were almost afraid to go in. The inside was ""okay"" but nothing fancy...cute because of all the quaintness..but certainly not an upscale restaurant. The food was decent ...but nothing I would go back for and the prices were way too high. I would never go again. Not worth it at all. Pros: none really Cons: too expensive for what you get...no atmosphere and mediocre food more

Are you kidding me? This place can charge $17.00 for an appetizer? 10/10/2007

After reading the excellent reviews, we decided to go to Dwights to celebrate a special occasion. Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Amazing waste of money. more

Surprise! This is no dive. 10/16/2006

If someone hadn't recommended this place, I probably would never have ventured inside. I am SO glad I did! I have never had crab-cakes so full of, well, crab! They were the best I have ever had in my life. The made-from-scratch pasta was awesome, tasty and cooked just right. I could not have been more surprised nor pleased with this find. Pros: Intimate Cons: The outside looks like a dive. more

Best food in the Jacksonville area 7/23/2006

As my wife and I were Condo hunting in December, the Real Estate suggested this cozy restaurant for my birthday. As he stated, once you pass the look of the outside and enter this cozy haven your evening will be a dream come true. Taking his suggestion we made reservations and requested to sit at the bar---watching the chief do his thing, and it was truly a work of art. The food was outstanding, wine superb and service could not have been any better. I will go back and have already suggested Dwights to many others. Pros: Thumbs up on this bistro Cons: Hard to find if you are new to the area more

Best meal in Jax!! 11/28/2002

I dined at Dwight's recently for my birthday. I chose Dwight's based solely on the reviews from this site. I was not disappointed. Yes it is pricy, but I went in knowing that. The meal was outstanding. From the crabcakes to my sea scallops. It was a nonstop feast!! My wife had steak and it was as good of a steak that you will get anywhere in town. (Yes including Ruth's Chris or Morton's.) I plan on making it a regular stop in my eating out routine. more

Best of the best! 10/28/2002

This is where my fiance took me on the night he proposed. Dwight's has the BEST italian food, and yes...it is real italian food! This place is small and intimate. We've gone back several times and I recommend it to anyone and everyone. Pros: Quiet, Romantic, Quality Cons: Higher priced - worth more
