Long story short, if you want french toast with some scrambled eggs and orange juice, it's going to cost you $25+ after tax and tip.

Go if you like being poisoned and being treated like crap. 1/2/2012

I ordered the chicken apple sausage breakfast. I ate the sausage last. After eating a half of the sausage, I found myself feeling nauseous. I quickly ran to the bathroom and vomited my food. The manager of the restaurant was dismissive of my experience and showed little concern for serving me food that made me sick. Terrible customer service. Incredibly rude manager. more

Who's writing the breakfast menu? Very over priced 12/8/2008

Just go for the pancakes 11/19/2008

Um, can I just say that if you go here and not get the pancakes then you are missing out. Not ordering the pancakes at Du-pars is like going to a fine steakhouse and ordering the chicken. Pros: The pancakes! Cons: Idiots that go there that don't order the pancakes more

Avoid this place 9/20/2008

If it weren't for the prime location in the Farmer's Market, this place would be closed. I can't imagine that anyone other than unknowing tourists ever come here. I recently moved to the neighborhood and thought this looked like a great diner-style restaurant. My husband and I first went for dinner. That night it was extremely slow and empty. It was so quiet in the restaurant we felt like we should be whispering. The food came out fast and was exactly what we expected, simple, no frills, diner food. However, when I got to the last few bites of my well-done hamburger, it was completely pink as though it had never touched the grill. Though I wasn't happy about that, the rest of the food was fine and so was the service so we thought we'd give them one more chance. We went for breakfast and the waiter was so rushed, we could barely talk to him. He would just speed by and quickly speak to us on his way to another table. My homemade corned beef hash was anything but home made. I guarantee it was straight from a cheap can. It was overly salty mush. The hash browns were barely browned and not fully cooked and when my toast finally came out, it was completely cold and had some butter carelessly spread across 1/2 of it. The butter never melted. To sum it up, everyone who works here rushes through their work and does a very lazy job. Even the menu has typos in it. Does the manager even care about this place? Pros: The restaurant appears clean and we were seated promptly Cons: Everything else more

Not firing on all cylinders 12/30/2007

12/30/2007 Grew up near the Glendale Dupars - that was a great coffee shop. Took my daughter and a friend to Farmer's Market location tonight and had dirty silverware and ""worst Cherry filling and pretty bad Chocolate pie"" - girl's words. Coffee was good but lukewarm. Broke my heart, 'cause I told them that it was going to be a real old-school classic joint. Service was friendly and prompt and the kids at the table next to ours said their pancakes and french toast were good. I wish them luck addressing the problems and getting back on track. Pros: Friendly service, great location. Cons: Pie needed help, lukewarm coffee. more

I'd give 0 stars if that were an option - Diner beware 6/27/2007

My husband and I stopped here for lunch with our 16 month old daughter on June 3, 2007. This is a definite ""diner/buyer beware"" review. We were so disturbed by our experience that we intend to write the corporate offices to file a formal complaint. Upon seating, we were subjected to waitstaff bickering over who was going to take what section. This continued consistently with, at one point, the two arguing at our table while our server was setting the drinks. Highly inappropriate, unprofessional and not the type of behavior that is ever acceptable. Even more ridiculous considering the prime and competitive LA location. I'm a local and I was horrified...I can only imagine what tourists to the Farmer's Market/Grove would have thought. We ordered our food and the children's chicken tenders meal for our daughter. When our meal arrived, my husband began cutting our daughter's chicken. The chicken was completely uncooked and pink on the interior. We were mortified. Keep in mind, this is the CHILDREN'S chicken meal. Uncooked poultry is dangerous, period. To have it on a self proclaimed ""child's plate"" is beyond comprehension. The average child would have simply picked up the chicken tender and began eating it. The only reason we discovered this Department of Health disaster was because our daughter's food still requires cutting in to bite size pieces. We immediately informed the waitstaff who took the food with little concern and told us a manager would be by. A manager never showed up; however, a man who didn't say one word to my husband or I came by to offer a balloon as if a balloon excuses serving a toddler raw poultry. The check arrived...full price. They had not even removed her meal. It has nothing to do with the price of the meal, but the complete lack of care/customer service. Completely ridiculous, infuriating and disappointing. Needless to say, we will never return and wouldn't think of recommending the ""remodeled"" Du-Par 's to anyone. more

Amazingly average 4/2/2007

It's a shame, taking all that time and money to turn a charming historic diner with good food into a over priced Denny's. more

Delicious Eggs Benedicte at Old Fashioned Diner 2/14/2007

Just visited the newly re-opened original branch of Du-Pars located at the Farmer's Market. I didn't get the chance to try their famous pancakes or french toast but did dig into a heaping plate of Eggs Benedicte with a side of crispy seasoned potatoes. The Benedicte featured light and fluffy poached eggs over perfectly toasted English muffins with thinly sliced flavorful Canadian bacon. I'm glad Du-Pars uses Canadian bacon as other diners I've visited substitute ham and it doesn't taste quite as good. This diner features cozy booths great for group dining and a laidback atmosphere. For dessert try their cheese pie, almost like a cheesecake but even tastier. Pros: Lot Parking, Quick Service, Large Portions Cons: A bit expensive more

This Coffee Shop is perfectly old skool LA 11/12/2006

Whether its a fresh pie or pancakes, a burger or sandwuch, this place always delivers. Been going here since I was a kid and the staff is friendly and location is LA old skool. Food is typical coffee shop fare but somehow tastes better here. Take-out whole pies are to die for or enjoy a slice with a cup of joe before or after a movie at the Grove. Pros: Coffee Shop that still keeps it real more

pancakes 1/28/2005

Order the pancakes and i promise that everything else will be well worth it,When you pancakes come to your table take your fork and press lightly on the pancakes you will see melted butter sponge out, there is no need to put butter on these babies, then take a bite without pouring syrup on them,Some people love them plain thats how good they are. Then try the boyzenberry syrup on top and you too will be hooked.Honestly my family has been coming here for genarations and we havent really ate anything else there. when we go there we dont even need a menu becase all we order is pancakes any time of the day.Try them i know you wont be dissapointed. more

Not impressed. 3/31/2004

Went for lunch and was quite disappointed. The food was lousy - overcooked and unappatizing. The service was rediculously slow and the waitress we had was quite cranky. We definately won't be going back. more

Great value 3/19/2003

Great value and good food. I think Dupars beats out most other eateries in the Grove. The breakfasts are the best. And the service is consistantly good. Pros: parking, value, food Cons: crowed at times, hectic more

Classic Americana in L.A. 1/18/2003

A great breakfast place! Went there twice in 1/03 while waiting for processing on a very popular CBS morning game show. Though we didn't make it into the audience either day, Du-Par's saved both mornings with its large portions, courteous and efficient service, and great taste. HUGE pancakes (the short stack will do ya), flully omelettes, flavorful breakfast meats, and fresh-sqeezed OJ. Will return to again whenever in the LA area. Don't let the decor fool you. Pros: portions, service Cons: decor more
