Best

I've been going to Gucci now for over a year. I actually followed her from her last salon. She is excellent. I have very long hair and she knows I don't like to get it cut much...

Worst

I made an appointment several days before the haircut, because all I needed was a trim, and it was cheap ($18). The ""stylist"" took about 5 minutes to cut my hair, was impatient,...

3RD AVE SALON IS TERRIBLE! 6/24/2011

I WENT THERE WITH THEM KNOWING I WAS A NEW POTENIAL CLIENT WHO JUST MOVED TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THEY GAVE ME A YOUNG ASIAN KID.............THE LADY WHO WASHED MY HAIR BARELY TOUCHED MY SCALP, AND THEN THE ASIAN STYLIST WAS CLEARLY A NEW ONE WHO SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO TOUCH HEADS YET... HE CUT MY BANGS TOO SHORT, BLEW DRY MY HAIR LIKE MY 10 YR OLD COUSIN COULD AND I PAID LIKE FIFTY DOLLARS! FOR A DAMN TRIM ON MY THIN ASS HAIR........ LITERALLY WORST SALON EXPERIENCE EVER... RUSHED AND HAD ME OUT OF THERE IN 20 MINUTES.. I EVEN TIPPED AND ACTED ACCORDINGLY BUT MADE IT CLEAR BY MY FACIAL EXPRESSION THAT I WASNT HAPPY AND WASNT ASKED IF I WAS BY ANY MANAGERS. THEY JUST TOOK MY MONEY AND ON TO THE NEXT! HORRIBLE DONT GO THERE THEY HAVE STYLISTS WITH STUDENT LEVEL SKILLS AND THEYRE NASTY TO TOP IT OFF! BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN... IFU WANT A SHITTY CUT A HORRIBLE BLOWDRY AND NO ONE TO GIVE A FK ABOUT U, ENJOY! more

THEY WILL RUING YOUR HAIR & KEEP YOUR $ 6/1/2011

PLEASE READ>>>TAKE PICTURES OF ANYTHING DONE TO YOUR HAIR & WRITE DOWN THE REAL NAME OF YOUR STYLIST (listed on license) I went to Casanova for ½ head of BLONDE highlights. I even showed him a picture of what I wanted…pretty straightforward. He stripped my hair of color & left me with ORANGE HIGHLIGHTS [ PICTURES Coming] I immediately told him it was the wrong color…HE GRABBED MY PICTURE & WENT TO THE OTHER STYLISTS SAYING “DOESN’T HER HAIR LOOK LIKE THIS?” I KNOW WHAT BLONDE LOOKS LIKE…I KNOW WHAT ORANGE LOOKS LIKE I asked him to fix it and he REFUSED TO FIX IT….HE HAD ANOTHER CLIENT WAITING!!!!! I WAS CHARGED $90!!! Another day, I returned to the salon & worked with another stylist. She was nice & genuinely tried to help. She dyed my hair back to a dark brown to hide the orange. Unfortunately, the process did not work and after a week, the orange highlights are now visible & everyone wants to know why I darkened my hair. IMPORTANT POINT--- AT 2nd VISIT, I DID NOT RECEIVE A NEW HALF HEAD OF HIGHLIGHTS BUT THE CHARGE IS STILL ON MY CREDIT CARD I tried to resolve the problem & spoke with Phoenix the manager. I wanted a refund for the HALF HEAD OF HIGHLIGHTS THAT I DID NOT RECEIVED ….HE REFUSED!!!! It gets WORSE…Phoenix told me Casanova felt bad about what happened & that’s why he ONLY CHARGED ME $90…. IF CASANOVA FELT BAD, WHY DIDN’T HE CORRECT WHEN I ASKED HIM TO? BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES…CLIENTS ARE NOT A PRIORITY!!! more

Great Salon and the best hair stylist is Gucci 10/3/2009

I've been going to Gucci now for over a year. I actually followed her from her last salon. She is excellent. I have very long hair and she knows I don't like to get it cut much so when she does cut it, she cuts exactly what I want but if she feels that it is not healthy and more needs to be cut she will recommend it but again will do exactly what I want. Always get compliments when I leave the salon. She's professional and personable. As far as the salon and rest of the staff, love them too. Very friendly and very welcoming. From the receptionist Sangria to the girls that wash your hair.....Ruby and Ten. They are just the best. Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing more

they are crazy 6/11/2009

whatever good reviews this salon has i guarantee that it's the stylists writing them. this place is a joke Cons: rude more

Fantastic Experience, Recommeded!!!!!!!!!!!! 5/7/2009

Possibly the best Salon experience I have ever had. I decided to cut my extremly long hair to above shoulder length. Gucci gave me the the exact style I wanted and was incredibly considerate. Cutting long hair can be an emotional experience and she was there with me every step of the way making sure I was alright. They were professional, but more than that, they gave good old fashioned customer service with a healthy helping of friendliness. Not to mention...I love my hair!!! From the receptionist Sangria, to Brazil who did the washing and of course Gucci the sylist, it was simply a good time! To all of you ladies...Thank you!!! Pros: Attentive, Inexpensive, Professional more

Best hairstylists at this location! 4/18/2009

The whole staff are true professionals but yet make you feel like family. They give you the best service and fantastic looking hair every time you set foot in the salon and when you leave the salon people take notice. Who wouldn't want that? Everyone is engaging and personable from the manager superstar Sting to my favorite the fabulous one and only Glase who can make your hair gorgeous in minutes from a faux mohawk to super straight hair. I always get compliments regarding my hairstyles that were styled by Glase at events and parties. I would highly recommend this salon. more

A Great Place, Wont Cost a Fortune 3/19/2009

Excellent, friendly place. They make you feel like you made a really good choice by selecting them. Feels like a $100 haircut, and a men's haircut is only $30 including shampoo. They even gave me free products! Highly, highly recommended. Pros: great service and atmosphere Cons: no cons more

DRAMATICS LOCATED AT 1488 3RD AVENUE HAS THE BEST KEPT SECRET--HIS NAME IS STING! 3/12/2009

I normally do not have the time to write reviews, but because I highly recommend Dramatics located at 1488 3rd Avenue I am taking the time to write this review. Sting is the manager of this awesome salon. He has been my stylist for about 4 years now. I moved to NYC about 5 years ago and during the first year that I was here, finding a hairstylist who I could trust to cut my hair was such a nightmare. My first hairstylist in NYC did not have any personality and was not very dependable, Then the second hairstylist that I had was talented and skilled but unfortunately he died from a heart attack in the subway. I was devastated! I was then recommended to try Dramatics and that is when I found STING who became my angel, my hero & eventually my friend. STING is gorgeous & has a great physique--what a body! More importantly he understands what type of career I have & how I should look in front of my clients, what hairstyles look good on me, & what hair color would look great on me. I look forward to all of my hair appointments with Sting. He can tell you that I am probably his most punctual client and I always show up for my appointments and if I am not able to make the appointment I will make sure to cancel in advance because I do respect his time and want to make sure that he has enough time to book another appointment. I have asked advice from him, shared many of my life experiences with him, joked and laughed with him, exchanged stories about my travels with him, danced with him, enjoyed his scalp massages & shoulder massages, and he will even play bongos for his clients, and on my birthday he had one of his staff, buy me a bottle of wine to celebrate my special day! I have never had a hairstylist who has taken such good care of me! It is an adventure everytime I get my haircut with Sting. He makes me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world everytime I go home from his salon. THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL AND LOOK SO GOOD STING. I WISH YOU SUCCESS ALWAYS! -JOYCE- Pros: EXCELLENT PERSONALIZED SERVICE Cons: NOTHING more

fun atmosphere, friendly staff, great stylist 3/3/2009

I am originally from Italy and have tried many different hair salons in NYC but I was never really happy with their work. This is until I found Sting at the Dramatics hair salon. He loves what he does and it shows, he knows what style really means. Sting is not only a very good stylist but also very professional, a good listener and he gives good advice as to what looks best on me. I like to change my hair color every now an then and no matter what I ask him to do it always turns out perfect! With Sting as your stylist satisfaction is guaranteed! Furthermore the staff at the Dramatics Salon is very friendly (especially Ruby) and they are a lot of fun as well. They truly work together as a team. In short, if you are looking for a hair salon with a great atmosphere and a great stylist who knows his job, go to Dramatics on 3rd Ave. Sting is the best!!! Pros: great atmosphere, friendly staff, good stylists more

Best haircut secret in NYC 2/27/2009

I have been to most of the expensive salons in NYC throughout the 11 years I have lived in here. I got tired of spending so much money & coming out with a so so haircut. That's when I discovered Sting at Dramatics. He is extremely talented, unique, professional, personable & makes you leave feeling like a million bucks. I get more compliments on my hair than ever. He really listens but also uses his trained eye to compliment your face the best.. His years of practice are always evident. He is a hidden treasure on the Upper East Side. I promise you won't be disappointed!! Pros: skilled stylists, affordable, friendly staff, upbeat music, good products more

Save yourselves...They do whatever they want to your hair!!! 1/13/2009

I asked for one cut and got another. Someone nicknamed ""picasso"" cut the top so short that I have to keep it down with bobby pins. I had asked for a trim of my shoulder length hair and I got this layered short mess. Maybe he was aptly nicknamed because my hair looked like one of the real Picasso's abstract painting when he was done! Do not go to this salon. It may be cheap, but you get what you pay for! Pros: Very cheap Cons: Cheap haircuts more

BEST SALON EVER!!!! 1/13/2009

I LOVE the Dramatics NYC 3rd Avenue Salon!!!! I can't speak for the rest of the Dramatics Salons because I know that Sting (the manager) has everything to do with why this salon is so great..... Sting cuts and colors my hair to perfection. His whole staff is darling.... (shout out to Ruby and Dutchess) :) I can't say enough how fabulous the salon is, Its a friendly, happy place...reasonably priced... always has appointments. I've got extremely curly, high maintenence hair and I never leave disappointed. I'm a bi-coastal girl, with a zillion different salon experiences, and by far this the best, all around hair salon in my travels!!! Cheers to Sting and his awesome hair mecca....Thanks! Pros: Great, affordable Cuts/Color, Sweet & Friendly Staff, Happy Atmosphere! more

Where are all the hair stylists going? 4/4/2008

I was referred to Angel by a former girlfriend of a friend of mine. She was pretty good at her skill and the prices were reasonable. However she was impossible to get an appt with so I constantly got my hair done by someone else. The once I got a haircut by soprano, which was excellent, however when I returned he had left their salon. Then I came back again and Angel had left and i had nikita on two occaisions. She is good but I think she doesnt listen to the customer bc I told her what would work and she did what she wanted anyways. Overall descent place and good prices but the stylists leaving makes it hard to stay loyal\r Ive since moved so I won't be able to make the trip up there anymore. more

User review by aeylskeg 11/3/2005

I made an appointment several days before the haircut, because all I needed was a trim, and it was cheap ($18). The ""stylist"" took about 5 minutes to cut my hair, was impatient, and made me feel like I was part of an assembly line or something. Never once did she smile, until I gave her an obligatory tip. When I went to the desk to pay, I was charged $32, which is completely riduculous considering the quality of the cut and the level of courtesy (or lack thereof) I was presented with. I am never going back. Pros: nothing Cons: overpriced, unfriendly, rushed more

Decietful Billing 2/21/2003

I went there for the $18 haircut. I was charged $26 because I had an appointment. (What!?) My girlfriend went for the $26 cut and style, but was charged $47 because they blow dried her hair. No products were used on her hair. Apparently a ""Cut and Style"" means that you leave with your hair dripping wet. The $18 cut doesn't exist since its only for walk-ins which they won't take since they are always ""busy"". We both hated the cuts we got. Cons: Mediocre stylists, Deceptive pricing, Lame music more

friendly staff 11/30/2002

good haircut for the price. the stylist understood what I wanted, and made additional touch-ups when it's done. good atmosphere. I'm only speaking for this one on 3rd ave/83rd st. Pros: inexpensive more
