I decided to host my daughters 4th birthday party at the aquarium because my sister's employer was having a discount day. This made it affordable for me, but I was afraid it was g...

aquarium wash out.... 7/6/2009

The Downtown Aquarium is a waste of time and money. $6 for parking and then $16 for a "fabulous" all day pass. It took all of 20 minutes to trudge through the massive crowds, you couldn't see any exhibits, people were walking through in all different directions, there were no visible employees to help with traffic flow, there was no air, it was hot and stuffy...need I say more? Then you head outside and wait at least 20 minutes for the tram ride through the shark tank. Be prepared... at the end of the tram ride you get squirted by parents and kids alike with supersoakers. What a waste of an hour!!! I'd recommend driving to the Moody Gardens Aquarium in Galveston any day over this "wanne be" aquarium....what a sad disappointment!!! more

Enjoyable Time, but a bit Corperate 6/12/2009

I really enjoy taking my kids here a few times a year. They have a blast, but it is all a bit too much. It is missing charm. more

Had a Wonderful Day! 9/19/2005

My children and I met a play group at the Aquarium this morning. It was $16 for an all day pass which gives you admittance to the aquarium and all of the rides. Children under 2 are free! Parking was $6. We loved all of the exhibits. This aquarium is not as large as other aquariums I have visited but they have everything displayed very nicely with great lighting, accessories, and effects. They had some fabulous exhibits that had me squealing like I was a child again! The white tiger exhibit at the end is absolutely stunning and it is incredible to be that close to such a large animal. The Shark Voyage train ride was very fun. Stopping in the tunnel with all of the different sharks swimming around was very interesting. The ferris wheel gives a great view of downtown Houston and I-45. The carousel is a carousel except you sit on different water animals. The fountains shooting up out of the ground was a perfect way to end the day! We also enjoyed lunch, however, for the budget minded it would be recommended to bring a packed lunch! more

Fishes Are Neat! 8/21/2005

The aquarium is a state-of-the-art display of aquatic creatures. Many are endangered and are very magnificently displayed to increase the viewing pleasure of those who attend and walk through the labyrinthic halls of water. I do enjoy all of the creatures especially the shark. Those are some ferocious creatures. more

Swimming with the Fishes 8/20/2005

Still fairly new on Houston's list of attractions, the Aquarium provides a mesmerizing adventure into the world of aquatic creatures from habitats such as the Lousiana Swamp to the coral reefs. After coming face-to-face with the animals, check out the carousel or ferris wheel outside. When you're done for the day, grab a bite of seafood at the restaurant or sip a cocktail at the Dive Lounge. more

Fun but expensive 8/18/2005

Luckily the light company sent us a coupon for 2 free day pass on all rides and we took advantage of this a few weeks ago. There were 4 of us so we still had to pay (I think) about $30. A little expensive when you consider there are only 3 rides, a train and one aquarium. I must say though, we had a great time!!!! If you want you can pay for the activities seperately. more

Ok way to spend the day 8/14/2005

Parking is $6 for all day. Tickets for unlimited rides and entrance to the aquarium were $16 plus tax, which I had a buy one get one free coupon, so it wasn't too bad. The carousel and ferris wheel got tiring pretty fast. The shark train voyage was really interesting, as was the aquarium. There was one other ride, which I don't remember, since it was not operating on the day we went. There are about 6 fairway games, with the fishing game being easy enough for a 5 yr old. There are only two restaurants and a bar, even though the website says three restaurants. The fountains are fun, so it's best to bring a bathing suit. The aquarium has a white tiger exhibit that was pretty cool. There's 4 tigers, which they don't keep in the exhibit at the same time, so we were able to watch them switch out the tigers they had on display. Overall, I think that for the amount of money I spent to spend the day there, what made it worth it was that my kids had fun. more

Downtown Aquarium 7/31/2005

The Downtown Aquarium is a wonderful family destination. It includes an outdoor amusement park complete with a carousel and ferris wheel. A train circles the area and goes through a tunnel made of acrylic that separates you from over 20 sharks! If you have little ones, make sure to take their swim suits so that they can cool off in the "dancing" water fountains. Inside there is a very wide variety of fish in over half a million gallons of water! At the end of the aquarium exhibit is an exhibit with four white tigers. There are a very limited number of these tigers alive in the world, so this is a truly unique experience. Because there are many things to do indoors, this is a great destination for families with small children. . .a great way to escape the Texas heat! more
