Sloppy 5/12/2011

I had a splurge coupon and went to get a facial, manicure, and pedicure. The facial was nice, as was the woman giving them, but the manicure and pedicure were awful. They were done by the owner who was rushed and REALLY sloppy. The manicure was uneven and not thorough (didn't touch my cuticles). I didn't see my toes up close until I left the spa otherwise I would have asked her to fix it as I had nail polish all over my toes. The woman I went with had the exact same experience. Sloppy, unprofessional, not worth the price even with the coupon. more

Horrible-Sneaky 4/13/2011

I bought a certicate for myself and my daughter with a bonus, finally got arond to use it. When we got there talk about bad vibes the owner was awful ran up to me wanting me to pay extra on tax when I had already paid tax. Said she would remove the bonus as long as I tipped and call it good after all the package was for $100 (no it was not-it was 50 and I still overpaid). Give it to me and say its a bonus and its not! . I was not happy at all we were going to walk out but I knew I would not get a refund. The message was very nice and the gentleman was very good. R oom was warm the robes were old and falling apart. The facial was not what I expected at all Mary Kay could do better. The girl was very nice and was nice to talk too but I don't recommend it.. We could not wait to leave the owner tried to stop me and say do you need an envelope NO i replied and walked over and handed them their tip. We litterally ran out of that place and we will NEVER RETURN. more

WORST Day Spa!!! 1/3/2011

BEWARE: Note that all the better reviews for this spa are from 2006-2008! I am an avid day spa-goer and know what a facial and massage should be like and I know what they should NOT be like - the latter is exactly what I got at the Downtown Day Spa. THE PLACE itself is cluttered - nothing nice or serene about it. I was never in the previous location, but the old adobe home that is the current Downtown Day Spa could have easily been made quaint and inviting, but it just looks messy and run-down. THE FACIAL was horrible: started with a simple face cleansing, followed by a mask; I was left alone for 15 minutes while it set. She returned to remove the mask and gave me a short shoulder/neck massage - the only pleasant 5 minutes of my whole facial. She then applied another mask and said it would need to sit for 8 minutes – at which time she left me alone again! She reappeared to remove the mask, added a moisturizer to my face, eyes, and lips – and she was done! She was in the room with me for a total of 10-15 minutes during my entire facial. Where was the steam? The extractions? The arm/hand massage and scalp massage? Aren’t these standard in hour-long facials? If not, then I’ve been very lucky at the spas I’ve chosen up until now. THE MASSAGE could have been nice, but the room was so cold that the therapist had to put three blankets on me. Of course, each time she had to remove a part of the blanket to work on me I would freeze. Also, the massage room has squeaky hard-wood floors. Every time the therapist moved, it creaked. Between the cold and the noisy floor, I couldn’t relax enough to enjoy the massage. It was such a horrible experience that I could hardly wait to get out of there. The only upside to this is that I had a special – buy one treatment, get the other free. I’m still not happy that I spent $100 for a totally frustrating experience, but it could have been worse – I could have spent $200! more

CROOKS!!! 7/29/2010

Don't go there. Go somewhere else. They charged me twice for a service done for one day. If you go, only give them one credit card. My mistake that I gave them 2 credit card numbers and so they charged my other account once and my account another one. I was only visiting New Mexico for one day and I got ripped off. I had a bad experience. It's telling me not to go back. Pros: I DON'T KNOW Cons: WATCH OUT!!!. THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!! more

Santa Fe's worst spa 4/13/2010

please be aware that there is only one Downtown Day Spa in Santa Fe. They have a new location and any old pictures you see are not of the new location. please see my review for the E. Palace Ave spa as this is the current location. Do not waste your money. Cons: these reviews are from past location more

Facials not worth it 12/22/2008

I have only had two professional facials in my life but the second, at Downtown Day Spa was the most expensive and worthless. I left thinking, for $90, I could have done that at home. There was no consultation, just endless creams applied and then wiped off my face a second later. No extractions, massage, nothing! It was a major disappointment. Pros: downtown Cons: high cost, low delivery more

Best Prices and a Soulful Massage 11/29/2008

The hotel I was staying in wanted $130 for 50 minutes. That sent me to the Yellow Pages and that's where I found the oldest day spa in Santa Fe-The Downtown Day Spa-celebrating 14 years of Massage Excellence and Environmental Wellness...one quick phone call found walking across the Plaza and into a nurturing and warm cozy satellite office. The staff was immediately delighted at my quick arrival and set about to make me feel welcomed. I was shepparded into a sweet treatment area and introduced to my therapist, Li. Li proceeded to give me a incredible massage mixed with Chinese accupressure points. I completely surrendered into her gifted healing hands and within 60 minutes I felt balanced and ready to kick back and finally relax. After I paid, the front desk person recommended that I walk the Labryinth at the Cathedral and even suggested lighting a candle inside. What an extra delight that continued to support me to surrender and just breathe.I will return again and again. Pros: AGreat Retreat from the Street Cons: NONE more

A little rub, a little scrub and a little paint 11/29/2008

It was the perfect morning-alittle rub, a little scrub and then paint on my tips and toes. It was wonderful and so affordable. I signed up for a package that included a grapefruit shea butter salt scrub, a Navajo wellness massage and a mini manicure/pedicure. The staff was fabulous, funny and soooooooooooooooooo nuturing. It was just what the "doctor" ordered and I needed to chill out big time. I have been to a ba-zillion places and t his was by far the best yet!!! Highly recommend price and quality-OUTSTANDING Pros: Great price, highly skilled staff and non rushed Cons: NONE more

Take Me To Heaven Hot Stone Massage 10/1/2008

When I called The Downtown Day Spa to book a one hour massage, the reservationist suggested based on my list of what was ailing my back, The Heavenly Hot Stone Massage. How much, I asked. Li answered, $125. Okay, I decided to give it a try. Oh my, when I was done I felt like I was in Heaven. I was floating and my spirit was uplifted and my pain was gone. Wow! I told my massage therapist, the hot stone treatment needed to renamed "Take Me To Heaven". Donna was so intune with my needs and her skill with those hot stone babies was amazing. To get me to relax was quite an accomplishment. I am a big guy weighing in at 180 pounds lots of muscle and tension.....but she knew her stuff really well. I highly recommend this "Heavenly" treatment for the ultimate of relaxation and to feel good all over. It was just right for this time of year. I am telling all my friends and loved ones that this is the Christmas gift to give to me. The front desk also told me about their upcoming Christmas Gift Certificate Sale, buy 2 get your 3rd one free. This is definitely my stocking stuffer gift request. Pros: Best stone massage price in town. Cons: Waiting until Christmas to get a real deal more

The ultra best on my day off from the kids and the husband!!! 9/30/2008

I desperately needed a day to myself. I had the kids all summer long and my nerves were shot. I called in and asked about specials...."are you a local?' yes and I need help...I am desperately needing a day to escape. Next thing you knew, I was at this great little boutique spa. I don't know what else to call it cause it is so little and personalized. I was literally the only one there on a Tuesday morning. Did I feel special right away...Given a robe and spa bag, I was shepparded into the treatment area. My massage therapist, turns out she had raised 3 of her own daughters, was immediatley tuned into my needs. It was the best 90 minute massage that I have ever had. Donna knew exactly where to go to get those muscles to give up the summer tension. I turned into a noodle. Since, it was my day, I next received a mini day spa facial....my skin was glowing like that of a new bride. By the time I left, I had in hand a series of five 90 minute massages for the price of 4....$360 and my mini facial was $50...it was the best $400 I have spent on myself in a long time. Now, everytime I need to escape and regroup to deal with my group, it is off to the Spa I go. Pros: small, personalized and intimate setting Cons: none more

Worse than Worse 9/7/2008

Without a doubt the worse spa experience ever. I could accept the credit card being required to hold the appointment - but the truth is it is used to get paid. The three hour package I paid for last two hours and was unprofessional. I will check to state codes to confirm the person performing the facial is even licensed. The massage in a room light enough for surgery with a parade going on outside. Cons: Not clean, office envirnoment for a spa, there is a reason they are in a new location more

Relaxing and fantastic 9/2/2008

Affordable luxury and it was was in my budget so I could splurge on my friend Clasinda who came to visit me here in Santa Fe. It was such a treat for my best friend to be coming to stay with me. I wanted to make the visit memorable without it costing me the next 6 months of credit card reminders. When I found The Downtown Day Spa...I was thrilled. They worked with my budget to give me and Clasinda memorable and masterful massages that I could afford. They have an Early Bird for $55 for 50 minutes (9-11am) daily and let me tell you; you better book as soon as you know that you want to go cause they sell out quickly. Excellent!!! I will go back again and I highly recommend it. Pros: Great affordable luxury Cons: NONE more

These Guys are Great 8/27/2008

The best customer service! Oh God, I needed a massage so badly, so badly and the massage was the best. Donna knew exactly where to find those spots that were hurting me so bad....When she was done, I was so glad that I had made time for me. I travel alot and when I say alot I mean all the time. When I get home, I always need a massage. Finding these guys, I have found the best in massage, customer service and ambiance.....this is a boutique spa where they are not into numbers but into great service and massages along with the price. They celebrate Locals with a $50 one hour-that's a full one hour non-rushed massage. At these prices, I can afford to get massages on a regular basis. What's even better is that I can walk to them....... Pros: Affordable prices with luxury Cons: none more

Ahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/18/2008

Gosh, after driving forever from Austin, my back was trashed. Checking into a hotel this time of year...yikes..,..no discounts and high prices. It was bad enough paying so much for gas to get here and then my hotel's spa wanted $130 for a 50 minute massage.....YIKES...I wanted affordable yet luxury and excellent skills that did not break the bank. Stopping at HOLY SPIRIT...a one man excellent brewed cup of coffee, I discovered The Downtown Day Spa....Bill .... Holy Spirit owner and coffee maven....started the same year Downtown Day Spa did....1994 making them the oldest day spa in Santa Fe.....well, drinking my great cup of brew, I called them......deep tissue, one hour was just $108.,.....A little walk to the east side of the Plaza and ther I was and it was a little slice of heaven, quiet and peaceful and the massage left me saying Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Pros: excellent value, skills and attentive care Cons: none more

Fabulous and Affordable 8/16/2008

I booked The Day of Beauty, It was a one hour relaxing, nuturing and excellent massage. Li found every tender spot and loving made it go away and made me laugh! It was a full hour, not rushed like other places that I have been to when I have been on the road. I travel alot and need alot of TLC after my long road trips. I lhad checked out the hotel spas and a 50 minute massage was $130 and a facial was $150. What a rip off. Here at The Downtown Day Spa, I received a one hour massage, an oatmeal rose mosqueta facial along with a soothing manicure all for $145. I told them I would be back on my next trip and that 9 girlfriends were coming along with me. The owner told me they would come to us so we could stay in our robes long after our spa afternoon was over. We are looking forward to our private spa party with a jewelry trunk show....and are you ready the price per person will be $162.50 and that includes tip!!! What a find and what a great crew. They really know how to make a gal feel pampered. I can't wait to do this with my girlfriends. Pros: value and they know what they are doing Cons: wish they had a hot tub more

Best Massage and I am a world traveler 8/13/2008

It was my first trip to santa Fe with my new girlfriend. We wanted massages, facials and possible pedicures. We also wanted a place that catered to couples. We found it! A little off the beaten path but what a find to discover The Downtown Day Spa. In my past life, I traveled the world and had world class massage at world class prices. What a little jewel this Spa was. Affordable and Excellent. It was all and more than we were looking for and their prices were fabulous. At our hotel, a 50 minute massage was $150...here for the both of us doing their signature Navajo Wellness Stress Relief One Hour Massage-it was $108 each. And we could be in the same room. The owner sheparded us in, gave us robes and spa bags. We felt like royalty. The crew was very attentive and each service was so personalized and we got to take home the Navajo Wellness massage oil free. Will be back again and again. We loved how they did what they all seem to love and kthe price is a steal. Pros: Excellent, well versed and highly skilled professionals Cons: that we had to go home-we wish they had B&B services to go along with the treatments more

Spectacular Spa Day 8/8/2008

Thanks again for a spectacular spa day. It was a high point for all of us. Below is the note I sent to the home owner. I hope you'll be more business from her renters. Thanks and regards to your providers too. Kathleen Hi Marilyn, I just wanted to check back in after our stay in your Santa Fe home. We had a wonderful time and the house was a huge part of the success! Thanks so much. ... on a totally different note, we had Downtown Day Spa come to the house for an afternoon of luxury. They brought massage tables and everything and we had THE most remarkable experience EVER (it helped that there was a terrific thunderstorm outside which made indoors feel all the snugger!). I would recommend that you add them to your website info. The contact there was Christina Sisley Schatz, She was great to take our budget and provide individual packages for each woman, including extra "party favors" and attention. Just the sort of service your home provides. Pros: spectacular and beyond our expectations Cons: none more

Worst Spa Experience Ever 4/3/2008

Three of us in Feb. 08, stopped by the Day Spa to make an appt. (48hrs) advance. Upon arrival to the day spa, we were first ask when the ran our C/C if we would like to add Gratuity(No service rendered yet). We get to the waiting room to find 3 spa employees talkin amongst themself trying to figure out who should do what, when and one wanted to go first so she could go to a class. We get to the rooms, no privacy , no lockers, no robes, OK, we had ask for a Mini Day Spa, two of us ask for Reflexology, that person did not show up - so we were offered an extra step on our facial. One of us ask for a Pedicure - oops, that person didn't show up either - OK, the tub was broke down, so couldn't use that - One of us ask for an hour massage - nope that didn't happen either. At best this was dissapointing, a real rip off, totally unprofessional facility and staff. There are many nice spas to go to in Santa Fe, Please Beware of this one - Pros: None Cons: The entire Spa more

intimate, personal attention 10/29/2006

I loved that this spa was small and intimate - I was immediately attended to and offered a complimentary soak in their lovely hot tub room before experiencing the best massage ever! I highly recommend this spa and can't wait for them to open in Albuquerque. Pros: ambience, reputation, service more
