This place is a total joke. If you are a guy don't expect to be treated like a human. My buddy and I walked in the other night and were told we could not enter because we were wea...

Club NESCAC 12/30/2002

Dorrian's is the bar that preppy New York twentysomethings hate to admit loving. Almost nobody plans on going to Dorrian's on Saturday nights, but somehow everyone ends up there. Dorrian's is a large bar but it can get crowded very quickly. The party generally doesn't get crazy until about 1am. It's a very popular spot for alumni from the NESCAC colleges. more

Fun night out 12/17/2002

Great place for a fun, crazy night out. Low-key crowd dressed in casual attire. Great music and dancing starts after 12. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Crowd more

Go Home! 8/28/2002

If you are coming here and are not part of the crowd that frequents, then you aren't really expected to have a good time. I know that that soudns mean, but Dorrian's is more of a clubhouse than a bar. Case in point, in November and December, during the party season, when people show up in full formal regalia nightly. If this is your scene, you'll have a good time, if it's not, you're probably better off going somewhere else. more

Editorial
  • In Short
A hub for recent college grads and preppy young professionals, this dimly lit tavern gets loud and crowded. The two rooms are fitted as a simple tavern--in the front, black-and-white photos and mirrors cover the brick walls, while the back room offers a second bar, leather benches and velvet curtains. Televisions at all angles let sports fans leave their living rooms without missing the big games. The jeans-casual bar functions as both a pick-up spot and a place to gather with longtime friends. Parties and pairs sing along to the familiar lyrics of classic rock standards and blaring middle-school favorites, and sometimes that's easier than straining to hear the person next to you.

Hits: If you grew up in the city, went to boarding school in New England, or attended an elite private college or an Ivy, you're certain to run into a slew of former classmates--which is either great or awful, depending.

Misses: The crowd is one-dimensional; you won't find any diversity here, both literally and figuratively.
