Soft corn tortillas chicken tacos.. Tastless Pros: Good service Cons: Poor food

Disappointed 10/28/2011

I went to the restaurant just because of the mariachis; however, I was disappointed that I had to pay them $15 to play one song! I had been a customer at a different restaurant where the mariachis were paid by the restaurant and only collected tips from the customers. The service and food were ok. more

disappointed 4/15/2011

We have been here several times on our own. We then bought a certificate on a popular website and when we tried to use it, they said we couldn't use it and then they put an extra $10 tip on our tab without our authorization. On top of that, the food is average at best. There are so many great mexican restaurants in houston that there is no reason to come here. more

Horrible Service! 12/15/2010

The food was really good but the service was horrible! The waitress was rude and neglectful the entire time. Things went from bad to worse when we tried to use a gift card for more than the price of the meal. Apparently it is restaurant policy not to give change back on gift cards. She refused to issue another gift card for the remaining balance and asked that we use a card so she could be tipped! After involving the manager who she claimed wasnt there, he suggested that we just order a drink on dessert to finish out the balance of the card since its the policy not to give change on gift cards. When i asked for the dessert menu I was informed that they didnt have one but he could offer me Flan, Tres Leches or Sopapillas to finish out the balance of the card. Through all of this the waitress was rude and only concerned about her tip. After getting Home I pulled up their menu only to find that i had in effect been charged $6 for $3.95 Sopapillas. While the food was good (the only reason I'm even giving it a star) it was not worth the disrespectful staff. more

My food was so bad I sent it back. 11/23/2008

We started with the idea of driving out on Westheimer to try a new place. Doneraki looked festive, so we stopped. It is beautiful inside, nicely decorated, with tasty chips and warm salsa. That is where the fun ended. Cons: Terrible food, overpriced more

Be Sure and Try the Aluminum 7/5/2008

As I drove up to this place, my wife said,"" We have been here before and you did not like it."" Well, I had forgotten this, but within 30 minutes, we were ruing to the car never to return... I will never forget this time. We ordered nachos which were bland and after eating the fourth one, the waitress came up immediately as I realized that there was something else in the nacho other than what I was expecting... it was a chunk of aluminum embedded in the sour cream. When the waitress saw me remove it from my mouth, she was much surprised as I was and asked if I wanted anything else. I relied, ""no, just my check."" The check came and I was charged full price... much to my chagrin... left cash with a ""small tip"" and ran to the car never ever to return. more

Avoid this place 5/12/2008

I'm usually not the one to complain. We had very poor service. There were like 20 of us and they only allowed us to have one waiter. And she repeatedly got our orders wrong. My fiance and I ordered fajitas and never recieved our tortillas after asking for them like four times. By the time we got them it was, 20 mins later, our food was cold. We never recieved refills, and they were very rude even after all of their mistakes. I would not recommend this place to even my worst enemy. I never write reviews about anything, but in this case, I wanted to put their service out there. Cons: Everything more

GREAT food!!!!! 1/21/2008

I have been going here for about 7 years now... The micheladas are amazing! The salasa is tempurature hot (hard to find), Ceviche is to die for, the tortillas are also amazing and the saturday/Sunday breakfast is my favorite part of the weekend hands down! With over 100 items on the buffet there is no way you can't find one of donerakis treats to make your Saturday morning even better! Pros: ceviche, weekend buffet, MICHELADAS Cons: loud on saturday nights more

Good cheap mexican food 11/19/2007

I love going here for lunch. It's never crowded, it's cheap and you get free queso. If you can drink with your lunch, the margaritas are good and cheap too. The food is your standard tex-mex but it's worth the value. I recommend the fajitas or anything off the cheap lunch menu. The service is inconsistent. Sometimes quick and sometimes slow. The only complaint I have is the mariachis on weekend nights. I don't enjoy that kind of music so it's loud and annoying. Pros: cheap food, quick lunch Cons: mariachis is loud more

Nasty 10/30/2007

Loud, rude service, nasty food, even nasty drinks, yet people flock there. Why? I have no idea. I guess overall Houstonian don't have any idea what good Mexican food should taste like. Pros: Location Cons: Food more

Good Tex-Mex and a fun atmosphere 2/17/2007

My husband and I both love Doneraki. It's one of those restaurants that you can count on being open, having people and good food. My absolute favorite thing there is their Chicken Mole Enchiladas. Not everyone loves Mole but since I am from a Mexican culture I grew up eating Mole and no one makes it better and more authentic that the folds at Doneraki. When ever we travel and come back to Houston the first place we crave going to is Doneraki.. Casual, fun and very reasonably priced. It's a Houston institution. Pros: Fun atmosphere, Good Mexican Food and the best Mole in town Cons: When there's lots of people and the mariachis are playing it can be loud more

Great fajitas 7/4/2006

I like Donerakis tortilla soup and fajitas. Plus they have great deals on pitcher Margaritas from 11am-7pm (the margaritas arent that great but the price $12 a pitcher is awesome). Pros: Good food, decent prices Cons: service varies greatly more

Mediocre Food 6/8/2006

Soft corn tortillas chicken tacos.. Tastless Pros: Good service Cons: Poor food more

Very strong margaritas! Good food, fun 6/6/2006

Crazy, busy, friendly place serving strong cocktails and standard Mexican fare. Roaming Mariachi band makes for festive atmosphere! Great people-watching with people from all slices of life gathered and in a good mood -- even on a Monday night! Pros: Friendly waitstaff, People-watching, Strong cocktails Cons: Cantina ambience, Greasy offerings, Noise more

Good food, good service 4/14/2006

This is a fun restaurant. The attitude is very casual, but you can get a tasty meal with cheerful service. It gets busy and noisy on weekend nights, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner this might not be the place. However, if you want to get a group together for a good time, kids included, give it a try. Doneraki also has a greater variety of desserts than many Mexican restaurants, which is a nice feature. Pros: good food, cheerful service, plenty of parking Cons: noisy when busy more

Authentic Food and Good Service 2/25/2006

The decor of the restaurant along with the Mariachi was a lot of fun and very festive. Chips and salsa were both quite good, and I have never been disappointed by any of my entrees (and neither have my friends who I have taken). Service was pretty good and the atmosphere was very comfortable, unlike some of the other restaurants in the area. Above all, their food is what keeps me going back. Pros: TRULY Authentic, Fun Atmosphere, Vast parking area Cons: Service can always be, improved, no matter, where you are. more
