Always a pleasure 9/9/2010

This restaurant has been a family favorite for many years. You can either eat downstairs in the tavern (complete with stone walls and flooring, dimly lit with candles, waitresses dressed in Colonial Period dress) or upstairs (fancier, more elaborate menu items, higher prices). Either is a good choice. We just went to the tavern portion Labor Day weekend 2010 and as always had a good experience. Highly recommend their hot sandwiches, burgers, and the fruit plate. They also have great homemade apple cider. Prices in the tarvern average $8-$20. In the upstairs portion they even have a gift shop with items other than the typical touristy t-shirt stuff. more

A Must When Visiting Gettysburg! 11/7/2009

I think this is definitely a place you'll want to stop at when visiting Gettysburg. The restaurant is like a step back to Civil War times--the roaring fires, candlelight, and waiters dressed in period attire. Our food was pretty good. I have a buddy who loves to go to unique restaurants and The Dobbin House is one of his favorites. more

World Class 11/9/2008

This tavern is so authentic of a Civil War tavern. You feel transported back in history. The food is wonderful and it is always our first choice when we travel to Gettysburg. more

Great Place to Eat 6/26/2008

Just ate here last month (June 2008). This place was awesome and not too spendy, upper average. I ordered Prime Rib, Ceaser Salad, and Smashed Potatoes. I was very impressed. This after eating at a very expensive steak house a week earlier. The Caesar Salad was among the best I have ever had, and I can't even explain why. It was just all around excellent. The Prime Rib was cooked perfectly, the service was great. My group of 7 walked right in without reservations. The atmosphere of the 1776 home was perfect after a day of wandering the Battle fields of Gettysburg. Highly recommended. more

The Best! 2/14/2008

The Dobbin House is probably one of the nicest restaurants in the area. The tavern is beautifully decorated and the atmoshere is just so cozy. The food is out of this world along with the staff! Worth the drive! more

Unique Old Tavern 1/12/2008

I believe the Dobbin House may be the oldest tavern in the town of Gettysburg. It serves excellent food in a nice old setting. It did tend to be slightly more expensive than expected but it was worth it. more

Ye Olde Pooh House 7/12/2007

We visited this restaurant years ago & it was fun. Not so on our last visit (July 7, 2007).\r Service was terrible. We had a 5:00 reservation & were kept waiting for 20 minutes, while walk-ins were seated ahead of us.\r Our hostess was rude--she hurried ahead of us when seating us & we actually lost her in the maze that is this restaurant.\r Our server was also rude. They used to do a cute colonial thing here--- they spoke like it was colonial times--great for kids--but not anymore, our waitress was short with us and never smiled during the entire dinner.\r I wish I could say the food was worth it--but it was awful. The shrimp tasted freezer-burned & the burgers were charred to a crisp.\r It is an expensive restaurant & you pay for charm, which was lacking on this visit.\r On our way out we expressed our dismay to the host--who replied, ""well, its not like any of you tourists will ever be back anyway.!""\r There isn't a lot to choose from in gettysburg, but avoid this place!\r more
