Best Korean food in Manhattan. 3/20/2012

My Korean born wife and I have eaten here more than 15 times over the last 5 years. We absolutely LOVE DO Hwa. The Kalbi and Bulgogi BBQ are simply the BEST I (and my wife) have ever had, anywhere in nYc. The cuts of beef are exceptionally tender and flavorful (due to an extra long marinade we believe) and the portions are quite generous. The Banchan are always fresh, varied and creative and all are delicious. The soup you receive as a side was very fresh and delicious. My wife remarked it was the most authentic Korean soup she has ever had in the United States. Very very close to what her grandmother used to make back in Korea (that should tell you something). The service is always very good; attentive without fawning over you. As you can imagine, I have eaten in an ungodly amount of ""Korean"" restaurants in nYc, and probably sampled just about every kind of Korean food available outside of the ROK, and DO Hwa is simply the best I have ever had. DO Hwa isn't the cheapest, but like most things in life you get what you pay for. HIGHLY recommended! more

Heaven 3/1/2010

I adore DoHwa. The restaurant is gorgeous, the staff are terrific and friendly, best of all the food is absolutely the best. I have been all through Ktown, and have to say, the restaurants there pale in comparison to this gem on Carmine Street. It is very comfortable inside, the decor is so tranquil. The deji bulgogi is my favorite-I am addicted to it. And the mandu gui (dumplings) are the best! They have a delightful ginger iced tea, and their desserts are all terrific. I wish I could eat here everyday. My favorite restaurant in the city! Kudos to you all at DoHwa-keep up the excellent work. I love you! Pros: Ambiance & Deji Bulgogi more

Fun place.... 6/10/2009

Haven't been to DoHwa for awhile so popped in last week. Glad to see this place hasn't lost it's edge. Tried some of their new dishes (tuna tartar and squid bibimbop) yummy! Will definitely be returning! Pros: Awesome Food more

Very Disappointing 2/5/2009

I was upset after leaving this restaurant. When we arrived, the place was completely empty and yet it took 10-15 minutes for the waitress to take our drinks order (she gave us a song and dance about how she had a hard night or something), and later the waiter pushed my friend and I out even though half the tables were still empty (maybe the end of his shift? That's fine--it's okay to tell me that, but not to insult me and give me some BS reason to leave). Pros: Good food Cons: Terrible service more

THE BEST EXPERIENCE--DON'T MISS OUT ON THIS PLACE 2/2/2009

We had never had Korean food before and it was AMAZING it was the best dining experience in about 10 years. The food was exceptional and the staff was so attentive. Brian the manager was so personable coming over to the table to even recommend a lounge in the area. This is a place to go for a dining experience like no other. ENJOY--we can't wait to return. Thanks Brian and Staff Pros: The whole experience/ the perfect ambiance more

my favorite place! 6/25/2008

this is hands down my favorite restaurant! i go just about once a week to get my fix. the food is always fresh and delicious. they just changed over to their summer menu and i am so happy with the seasonal items they have added. the staff is amazing, very friendly and genuine. the drinks are the bombs. i love sitting at the bar here. the bartenders are great and there is always room enough to hang with friends or even for a date. and i almost forgot, i am always impressed by the music they play here. i always leave here better and happier! Pros: the new kalbi, ginger kamakaze (and the eye candy behind the bar!), great energy Cons: nothing except when you show up on saturday without a reservation more

Outstanding 5/16/2008

I've been wanting to try this place since I moved in to the neighborhood and it did not disappoint me. I went with a friend and we sat at a BBQ table. Our server was very informative and sweet. She explained everything to us as to ordering since this was our first time there. The food was great. It is on the spicy side but there were options for those who cannot take the ""heat"" like my friend. I'm looking forward to going back again Pros: Food, service Cons: didn't go sooner! more

Bad experince! 4/29/2008

This place is not a place that you can hang out with your boyfriend or girlfriend.First of all it is too noisy and the food is something that you can find in a 2 class restaurant. more

I LOVE this place 12/12/2007

I am a born and Raised Korean American. My mom fed us Korean food all of our lives and we went to the most popular Korean restaurants in Flushing for Sunday dinner with family and what not. I have NEVER EVER experienced Korean food the way this place has served it. Pros: delicious food Cons: your average five year old wouldn't appreciate it... more

Great Korean Food, without the BBQ Smell. 10/5/2007

Do Hwa?s decor is modern-ish with 3 main colors present: black, white and red. The staff is attentive and friendly. The food was yummy... from the panjan to the bibimbap to the soups... all fresh and quite tasty. One of my dining mates is a friend who recently moved to NY from Korea and he gave it the thumbs up... which says a lot. All in all, yummy food, good service and average pricing (comparable to K-Town). I should point out, though, one difference between Do Hwa and most Korean restaurants? there is no barbequing at the table. While some may enjoy the traditional way of bbq-ing at the table... it does save you on dry cleaning bills because, without fail, when you leave a Korean restaurant, the bbq?s (whether from your table or someone else?s) aroma stays with you. Pros: good Korean food, fun location more

A Hidden Gem 9/25/2007

I'm a born and raised New Yorker and have tried tons of different kinds of food in my lifetime. I've always loved Korean food and have eaten at all different Korean restaurants in the tri state area. I've had Korean food in Flushing, Long Island, New Jersey and Manhattan. What makes Do Hwa stand apart is the food and atmosphere. I'm a big believer in authentic cuisine and the food in Do Hwa is just that. The Gal Bi is amazing because its marinated to perfection with just the right blend of seasoning and when grilled on a steel grill, it's even better. That's just one of my faves. The Kimchi Pajun (kimchi pancake) , Dduk Boki (spicy rice cakes), and Sewoo Tigim (fried butterfly shrimp) are my favorite appetizers. They also have a great drink menu. The atmosphere and decor of Do Hwa make it a trendy downtown spot with an old school feel. It's not only the best Korean in the city, it's one of the best restaurants in NYC. Pros: Cute waitresses more

GREAT KOREAN FOOD & HAPPY HOUR 9/10/2007

Being korean, I have high standards for my korean food. Do Hwa offers authentic korean taste without the bright flourescent lights of ktown. Do Hwa has a full menu with a variety of flavors that will suite any palate. Try the kalbi jjim it's my favorite! I come here all the time with my boyfriend or a group of friends. Do Hwa has the chic yet friendly atmosphere to accomodate a romantic date or large party. The HAPPY HOUR is not just drinks , it is also a great way to try some of the delicous menu items at half the price! I LOVE THIS PLACE! Pros: Good food, service, and ambience more

Great food without the typical craze of korean restaurant 9/10/2007

I've been to Korean restaurants all over NY and this place not only tastes great but their service is awesome. The staff pay attention and don't seem like they are in a rush to get you in and out asap. It is not your typical ""Koreantown"" restaurant but thats whats great about it. Will come back for either a casual lunch or to impress at business dinners. Pros: Food, service, drinks more

Best Korean Restaurant in NYC 9/9/2007

Unquestionably the best Korean restaurant in New York. more

Best Korean food restaurant in the US 9/9/2007

I like Korean food and I have been to several korean food restaurants in NYC and other cities in the US. Dohwa is, no doubt, the best korean food restaurant I have ever been to. I go back as often as I can. Also love the atmosphere. Great place! Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: Only in NYC more

Excelente comida coreana. Pour les amateurs de vraie cuisine ! 9/8/2007

Buenisimo.

Redefines Korean Food 9/8/2007

This restaurant does an amazing job of combining incredible Korean BBQ with New York Chic. You actually feel like you are in a nice New York restaurant as opposed to a greasy spoon. And the food is amazing! No compromise on authenticity while using fresh ingredients. All and all, I highly recommend this place. Pros: Food, Ambience more

one of the best 9/1/2007

Yummy yumface Korean food in a stylish setting. Pros: Food, Decor, Staff, everything really more

Love this Korean! 8/7/2007

This is the best place for korean food outside of Korea Town. It's been around by what NY standards seems like forever but each time I have been there, either in an intimate group or with a large one, it has been a great dining experience. The food is great, for meat lovers, the BBQ is always fresh and great tasting. It's great for party's,like birthdays or other occasion, but you have to keep it small if you want to fit at the BBQ tables. A high recommend!!! more
